A note for newbies - I know Patreon can be a bit hard to navigate.  Please be patient and explore, and be sure to join our private Facebook group (email patronhelp@cynthialin.com with your facebook email address), you'll find a lot of support there.   Also see the Community Notes at the bottom of this post for more info on joining our communities and where to get help.

October recap - China tour, Uketober Fest!

China tour is still sort of a blur to me now. I met wonderful people (turns out uke people everywhere are pretty chill and like sharing the aloha vibe!), saw 5 different cities, performed in front of hundreds of people, and learned so much about my own culture.  We ate like kings and drank a lot of coffee to power through. I even got an uke lesson from uke legend Benny Chong!

Here's a pic from our biggest show, in Chengdu, where Abe Lagrimas Jr. and I were the featured guests. See more China pics on my instagram tour diary (and be sure to follow me @cynthialinmusic).

And what a thrill to see so many Patrons at Uketober Fest 2018 here in San Francisco last weekend! Some of us got together to shoot the video for American Pie, coming soon!  See any faces you recognize? :)

I'm so lucky to have a strong team that helped me to organize Uketober Fest even while I was on China tour.  Save the date for next year - we are moving to the summer to create an even bigger festival - San Francisco Ukulele Festival, 7/27/2019! #sfukefest

Hi Cynthia! I am a new patron, been playing for 2 months now and found your beginner uke tutorials invaluable! I haven't found a uke club yet but I am really enjoying working through all of the songs/tutorials you have posted.

Jon stien

I’ve been playing for about 10 months. Satarted with a cheap tenor by strong wind. ( pretty good for the money) now I have graduated to a fender tenor. I’m up to about 12 songs thanks to your excellent teaching. I have been “volunteered” to perform for our work holiday party. I’m super nervous. Wish me luck!

Hi Cynthia! I've been playing for exactly 2 months and 1 day lol. I purchased a concert Kala when a friend gave me a gift card to a music store and I've become obsessed with playing the ukulele, at least my wife says I'm obsessed with it. After watching your tutorials along with many other tutorials from other people on YouTube, I've decided I enjoy your teaching style the best and decided I would support you on my ukulele journey. I haven't really learned any songs yet, I've been practicing everyday different techniques like chunking, finger picking, strumming patterns, scales, chords, etc. Hopefully I will learn a few songs with your help. Thanks for the great tutorials!

Wallis

Hi all. I luuuuuuuv my ukulele and Cynthia your tutorials are excellent! I love going back to my first songs and seeing how much I’ve improved. For all newbies stick with it, practice every day, you will be amazed how quickly you progress with Cynthia’s tuition. I wear my tough skin on my fingertips with pride! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤗

Jim O'Brien

Question, where do I find chord charts for your songs? I've been hunting around but so far can't find them. I will keep on searching ;)

Mark Troy

Aloha Cynthia! I’ve been playing around for awhile on a Lanikai Pineapple that my wife gave me. Didn’t make any progress until I found your tutorials. I love them. I sign in every day. Just got back from Hawaii where I purchased a KoAloha soprano with a concert neck. Now spending a couple hours a day with it and your videos.

Jim O'Brien

Hi Linnea, just google Gumroad Cynthia Lin and it will bring you to her Gumroad page with all the chord charts. Cheers!

Rich Montoya

Aloha Mark, I have a KoAloha tenor I bought back in February. What an instrument, I love playing it. Hopefully you took advantage of their factory tour while on the island. They are super friendly people and it was amazing to see the instruments being made. I visit them at the factory from time to time and they are great people if you didn’t take the tour, make it a must do next time you come visit! Aloha! 🤙🏼

Mark Troy

Aloha Rich, l did visit. It was an amazing tour. Lloyd was incredibly friendly. I brought with me the KoAloha I had purchased just the week before on Kauai. Lloyd spotted a tiny ding on it and insisted on giving me a replacement.

Peggy Butler

Aloha Cynthia! I am beginner uke player, but have played many instruments and sing, but this is the first string instrument that I've been able to "master". I started in July after receiving a Lanikai Concert-size uke for my anniversary. I was inspired by my summer intern who was learning to play as well. We found you on youtube of course, and I loved your teaching style and song choices for beginners. I took your advice and worked a little everyday. I was amazed at how fast my motor memory kicked in and I was able to add a new song each week. At this point, I am up to over 20 songs and practice an hour everyday. My favorite is "Dream a Little Dream". I'm now learning some Christmas songs for the upcoming season. I had to "repay" you by joining your Patreon. You are obviously a talented musician, but more importantly a generous, loving and patient teacher. I do not have a uke group nearby, because I live in the middle of the Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania. I love your play-alongs and watch and listen often. Thanks again for introducing me to one of the most beautiful instruments I've ever played.

SONIA BARDES

Bonjour Cynthia :) My name is Sonia I live in France (Paris) i am french (forgive me for my english). I played piano and i sing. since i'm 7 years old. i 've been playing around for 8 months on a Ohana Soprano and recently on a Gretsch Concert with resonator. I am spending 2h per day and I love playing both of them. I found you on the web (thank you to my anges for that), and i am so happy to progress with your tutorials ! You are my teacher and i am so proud :) I'm now up to over 25 songs :) The way you teach us and you play is soooooo perfect !!! and you sing so well... Today i can bring my instrument and sing with my friends and family... all this miracle because of u :)) So, thank you so much for your patience, your love and hope to see you maybe in CA or Paris :) Xoxoxoxo Sonia !

Hi Cynthia - I'm a new patron, came across your video of Summertime on youtube which led me to your patreon page. I have played piano and flute since grade school and became interested in ukulele in March 2017. I asked for one for my birthday and received a Martin soprano because "it had the nicest tone". Well, it did sound lovely when my husband played it however as a beginning with big hands I ended up going out and getting myself a concert sized kala and teaching myself a few songs with charts online. A couple of months later I invested in a tenor-sized ukulele with a built in pick-up so that I could amplify the sound when playing with my band (I am the keyboard player in an all girl band). When we perform, I do a handful of our songs on ukulele and it is definitely passable especially if the chords are not too complicated. I am looking to take my playing to the next level by learning different strumming styles and finger picking, and would also like to get better at playing more difficult chords. I was not able to attend the intermediate live jam on November 1 but look forward to sifting through your archived sessions and participating in the future. I truly love your version of Summertime and immediately learned that one....and look forward to learning more from you! Thank you for this opportunity! - Lauren (Lolo) in New Jersey

Suzanne Stimson

Hi Cynthia, I am finally a patron after dabbling for about two years. I met you in Reno last year. Will you be back? I have been playing with a group of ten people including a drummer and a guitarist. We have so much fun playing together for about two hours a week. A lot of our songs are yours and we are working on harmonizing. Now that I am retired, I have more time and want to progress faster in my playing. I started with a Cordoba concert with a low G, and also have a Kala soprano. I am hoping to upgrade when I know know more about what I like. Here we go!

Barbara Luneau

Hello Cynthia, I'm a newbie. Jumping into ukelele is my first ever experience with a musical instrument. I really like your YouTube lessons and how you explain everything and don't assume that the student has basic knowledge of the process. I also like how I can use all of your resources at my pace, maybe someday I'll be able to keep up. I can play 3 and 4 chord songs, I've spent a lot of time on Stand by Me, Brown Eyed Girl, Kiss the Girl, and Lava. I'm trying to learn new chords and strums. What would help me is a progressive chord list and short associated songs to move from C-F-G-G7-Am-Em-Dm to more advanced chord progressions. Thank you for having the vision to create this marvelous space.

Kaede Helck

Aloha Cynthia, I'm Kaede, living in NYC. I've been playing ukulele for about a year and half, but I also have a long term experiences with guitar, and lots of other instruments. I organize jam sessions every month at my Church, and I play and sing there a lot!! I've been following you on YouTube for a while, so I'm so excited to see you in NYC at the end of this month. Yes, I'm planning to come!! Hope I can make some uke-friends there!!!

Toni Jennings

Hi Cynthia and fellow Patrons! I'm a newbie and excited to be here with fellow uke players! I've been playing for about a month now. I have a Lohanu concert uke and this is my first string instrument. I've been working my way through your various beginner YouTube lessons and TAB arrangements I've found on Pinterest. I started playing because I've always wanted to learn a string instrument and have always loved the sound of ukuleles. It's become rather addicting and has quickly become a part of my evening routine. I play every night for about an hour or so but it never seems like enough time! So glad to have found your videos (thanks to an Amazon review) and this group! I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can and being a part of the uke community!

Jenny Selig

I will be there, too, Kaede, with some other NYC Uke Club strummers. Can't wait!
