Aloha Patrons!

Quick reminder to submit a video for our Patron Open Mic Giveaway!  Thanks to everyone who  already shared a video - it's so much fun to meet you and see your uke progress.  Deadline is next Thursday, so take a moment to make a video this weekend. :)

Welcome to our monthly vote!  Please note that Voting closes Monday 1/14 at 11:59PM Pacific Time.

If you're new to Patreon, please see instructions below for voting. (also, if you're new, join our secret facebook group!  email patronhelp@cynthialin.com with your facebook email address and we'll add you - and see Community Notes at the bottom of this post for more ways to connect)

How the Song of the Month works

If you're new, here's the TL;DR version of what happens with the Song of the Month:

1. All Patrons vote!  (in this post!  see the song options below!)

2. I create a Chord Chart ($3+ Patrons) and teach a Live Lesson ($5+ Patrons) for the winning song, and I'll record a Play-Along to release on YouTube.

3. All Patrons receive access to the recorded hour-long Live Lesson the following month.

Last month's Song of the Month was Something, be sure to check out the Live Lesson!  This song was quite challenging - My goal is to make the arrangement to suit as wide a range of players as possible.

THANK YOU PATRONS for directly supporting the creation of these higher production Play-Along videos!

HOW TO VOTE

1. Click on the checkbox for as many of the song choices as you like below - yes, multiple votes are allowed. Please note - as soon as you tick the checkbox, the vote is counted. (you can look at the ticker on the right!  sometimes the ticking doesn't work on certain devices - in this case, try your laptop or desktop vs tablet or mobile)

2. Comment with ONE SONG that you’d want for next month's tutorial.  Next month's song choices are taken from your comments, so make your voice heard!  Please keep it to one song suggestion per person.

3. Upvote other people's song choices by clicking the heart on their comment. Upvotes are an easy way to double your voting power!  Your upvotes matter, so I encourage you to come back and look through your fellow Patrons' comments to upvote.

Cynthia's Choice - Kacey Musgraves

I'd like to use my choice this month to highlight the artist that I listened to the most last year.  Kacey Musgraves is a cross-over country singer with fantastic songwriting, and her beautifully produced album Golden Hour delivers on so many levels.  If you're a Kacey fan, please comment with a song of hers that you'd like to learn.

Thank you, and happy voting!

xo cynthia.

It's not easy being green. My favorite versions are as a jazz standard. It has potential for some nice intermediate picking.

Maggie

Agreed! I’d love to learn a good version of this song!!! Have you ever heard the version by The Hot Sardines!?!? Sooo good!

Maggie

Fire and Rain for a female vocal would be wonderful!

Seth Tepfer

Sloop John B, Beach boys.

Marion Tissot

Killing me softly...please! This song has been so close to win 2 times already!!??

Brenda Hawks

I haven’t been excited about the song offerings for several months now. Hope February is a better song month!

Jenny Selig

I'm hearing so much buzz about Brandi Carlile in my circles -- maybe one of her songs? Heart's Content is pretty, but just about anything would be fun to learn.

Rohit Nambiar

Still and always will be waiting for a tutorial of your cover of Roxxane by Police. Beautiful it was! P.s - there are no other online video tutorials for this :) I hope bohemian rhapsody wins this month!!!

Jenny Selig

This is a good one for beginners, and I'd love to have some "intermediate" arrangement options to make it a little more complex.

Jenny Selig

Copyright issues come up with anything Eagles... They tend to get things taken down.

Katherine Andersen

‘Wahine Ilikea’ - your rendition recently Cynthia on a 5@5 was sooooo ONO :D

Heidi

Yes, copyright issues with the Eagles. Have you checked out Cynthia’s July 2018 Beginner Live Jam using her Ukesplosion Packet? She has a pretty good lesson at about the 32 minutes mark. It’s fun!

Heidi

Like your comment and this song is one of my favorites!

Maureen Heiden

For Kacey Musgraves-Rainbow. Kacey is getting closer to Brandi Carlile...I'd love to have a tutorial on one of Brandi's songs. Wherever Is Your Heart. She is up for 6 grammy's this year...

Jean

Killing me softly

Linda Lee Peacock

I'm fine with any song that wins, because I know I'll always learn something from your teaching, Cynthia. Upvoted your choice for you to teach, as I would like you to teach us something new you'd like to teach. But also upvoted Africa, for Laura, who has wanted that for such a long while.

Scott

As a suggestion for next month... "Sound of Sunshine" by Michael Franti? Up tempo, nice backbeat. (also Bay Area artist.)

Christina Ciano

I'd also like to put Breathe by Pearl Jam back on the radar.

Dorain Jacobs

What about some Rolling Stones or Csrly Simon?

Julie Rogers

Would love to see Hazy Shade of Winter (Simon & Garfunkel) on the list sometime! Gorgeous song with interesting finger picking. I've been trying to learn it on my own, but haven't made it very far yet. Same with Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes

Melanie Maus

I vote to learn Time in a Bottle

Susan Alexander

Time in a Bottle is one of the most beautiful songs every written.

Jess Chen

Has anyone else watched the Taylor Swift Reputation tour documentary on Netflix? I like her solo guitar version of "Dancing With Our Hands Tied."

Jess Chen

I really like Hard Way Home from the album Bear Creek - one of her more country songs.

Stefan Dzwonnik

Killing Me Softly continues to be second in the last few months.

Maureen Heiden

She is indeed! I still can't believe how good they are and what a following they have....but are not mainstream commercial. I love that--but still want them to walk away with Grammy's this year!!

Maree Smith

One by U2. I'd love to hear Cynthia's magic on this haunting song.

Rochelle Santopoalo

"Places Where the Lost Things Go" from Mary Poppins Returns

Tim Hochban

Blowing in the wind - Dylan

Carmen

Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell

Trish Solomon

Kacey Hapoy and Sad would be awesome!

Ryemma Stoop

So many good choices! Very curious to see where it will go.

Kelsey Fleury

I have been pulling for a song by her for awhile now! 6 Grammy nominations this year! I am so excited to see her and the twins getting the recognition they so very much deserve. Bear Creek is one of my top albums of all time.

Kaisa Jaakonaho

I'd like to see as many as possible tutorials on Joni Mitchells songs.. they are so beautiful. Woodstock, All I want, My old man 💜

Marion Tor

Would like to see 'She's a Rainbow' make the list at some point in time. Thanks!

Lisa Guillard

Helplessly Hoping by Crosby Stills and Nash

Rici

I love this song! Yes, hopefully this song will be in the voting for next month. Along with the song I suggested... 😂

Matt Puccini

Since Waiting in Vain is getting killed this month, can it please have another chance next month? Also check out Annie Lennox's version of it, it's really pretty.

Julie Brazill

I dont know Kaceys music but in Cinthia like it, Im for it!

TJ

Perhaps a Crosby, Stills and Nash song like Marrakesh Express or Teach Your Children or Our House, would have a nice strum rhythm for the uke?

Laura Smith

This would be an intermediate song. I've tried to play it just using a basic tab, but it's tricky! It needs Cynthia's magic to make it accessible & beautiful.

Chipper Williams

Have you heard that Toby Keith one, Don't let the old man in?

Mary Jane Wisniewski

How about something from Eddie Vedder Ukulele songs album such as “Longing to Belong”?

Joshua Waldman

Kacey is great! Thanks for the intro to her music.

Gary Koshi

For a Kacey song - My House

Shelley Rubzow

A tie!!!! Cynthia what are you going to do???

Fuzzy

I think it’s Cynthia’s choice for the tie-breaker, or maybe a two-fer!!! Here’s a tutorial idea: how to go from the song you hear to putting it on paper and developing a ukulele version of it.

Tracy Hall

OMG! I could have been the tie breaker, but been out of town. James Taylor Fire and Rain would have been my vote, even though Queen is like my all time favorite Band ever! So looking forward to it!

Pam

where is the chord chart for thos month's lesson that is tomorrow? I can't find it.

Wendy Kriegel

How bout a song from the Sleepless in Seattle soundtrack: A wink and a smile, make someone happy, a kiss to build a dream on, bye bye blackbird etc.....

Wrendybee

How about Everybody Wants to Rule the World from Tears for Fears, has some picking and strumming!

Lisa Reinhard

As a millennial I'd love Mr. Brightside :)

Samra Antons

How about Tennessee Whiskey, I love that song!
