Aloha, Patrons!

First, a reminder to enter our Patron Community Open Mic, entries close at midnight tonight!

Today I shared a new video for "Stars Fell on Alabama," a classic jazz standard that I recorded as a custom arrangement for a Patron.  More on that below!

Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/WLQyxCuGcHs

Please take a moment to click through to YouTube, give it a thumbs up, leave a comment, and share. Thank you!  Every like and comment helps to spread the word about my channel.

About this custom arrangement

I created this arrangement as a Platinum Tier Patron reward for Wendy, who is an accomplished ukulele player.  Wendy chose the song and told me to arrange it with all the bells and whistles, so I did not hold back on the jazz chords in this challenging arrangement!

If youʻd like a custom arrangement, I have just added a few more Platinum Tier rewards (which are typically sold out).  You can edit your pledge here to snag one while theyʻre still available.  Iʻve created custom song dedications for Patrons as birthday and anniversary gifts, and itʻs always meaningful for me to create a special song for your special someone. :)

Watch the full-length Intermediate-level Lesson

I asked Wendy if I could teach this arrangement to Patrons as an Intermediate Jazz Uke Lesson, and she agreed.  Thank you, Wendy!  $20+ Patrons, you can check out the lesson here, where we cover a wide range of jazz chord shapes and progressions and talk about jazz music theory. (Just fair warning that this is definitely Intermediate-level material.)  If you just upgraded for our "Intro to Singing" Workshop, then youʻll have access to this lesson, plus all archived Intermediate Lessons and Jams.  Weʻll also have a new fingerpicking lesson on "All is Found" for the Intermediate Lesson this Thursday.  If youʻre ready to up your ukulele game, then please join us!

xo cynthia.

Maybe this is the only way that you will have an arrangement of the song that I really like because I doubt it will win by voting hahaha :)

Excellent review for me - watching again gave me a much better grasp of the jazz concepts and chord relationships. Everything you have taught me is starting to sink in! You’re so right- practice even a few minutes a day. Good for the heart, good for the brain!

Mad4Uke Paris

Hi Cynthia, I am also a native San Franciscan- (3rd generation). I have been living in Paris for 20 years. In 2011 I was sitting in the Jardin de Plantes and a teeny bopper was strumming his uke. I was mesmerised and struck up a conversation with him. The next week I was back in our City and I bought 2 ukes at the Music store on Van Ness and Geary. I took one lesson at Fort Mason, returned home to Paris and got too busy to play. Those poor forgotten instrumented collected dust for nearly 9 years. Last summer I was in Spain and there was a special deal on uke lessons. I bought my 3rd uke there and have barely gone a day without “playing.” It is the best thing in my life! I have never been musically talented but always had the desire ( a vicious nun piano teacher smacked my hands with one of those wooden pointers when I was 10 and I quit.) Now I am 66 and I just can’t feel unhappy when I am holding a uke. I never knew that wood, 4 strings and a little bit of metal could bring such joy. This precious object has gotten me through tough times. A great big thanks to you for giving us a marvellous gift by sharing your talent. You are fantastic ! Organised, clear, you simplify the challenging lessons and make them manageable. I adore Moon Shadow and Dream a Little Dream. Your voice is also soothing and what a beautiful singer you are! You remind me of how friendly San Franciscans are and it makes me homesick and nostalgic. I hope to plan my next home visit around one of your events. Merci beaucoup. Madeleine

Sorry to put this loooooong message on the wrong post. I am a newbie to the scene and a little social network shy. I would only join for a really, really good reason and I found it right here. Thank you, Cynthia and fellow ukers.
