Aloha, Patrons!

(new Patrons, please see the Community Notes at the bottom of this post for tips on getting started, and please read thoroughly for instructions on how the whole voting process works.)

Welcome to our monthly vote!  Due to my travels, I needed to delay the vote by a few days.  For this month, voting closes Thursday, December 12th at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.

How the Song of the Month works

Here's the TL/DR version of what happens with the Song of the Month:

1. All Patrons vote! (in this post! See the song options below!)

2. I'll create an arrangement for the winning song and teach a Live Lesson (access for $5+ Patrons) and share a Chord Chart (early access for $3+ Patrons).

3. All Patrons receive access to the recorded hour-long Live Lesson the following month.

THANK YOU PATRONS for directly supporting the creation of these higher production Play-Alongs!  Click these links to find all Play-Along posts and Live Lesson posts.

This month - share a story about your song choice

Some folks commented that they wanted newer songs - so this month, Iʻm adding the release years of the song choices so you can see that they represent a span of 6 decades!  Please keep an open mind about the song choices, understand that this is an ongoing process thatʻs meant to be more of an open forum, and if you want a newer song, please make a specific song suggestion.  And be sure to upvote your fellow Patrons' comments!  (See below for instructions)

To up the ante on your write-in songs, letʻs try an experiment. This month, comment with a song suggestion, please add the release year or version that you like, and share a story or pitch about why you love the song or want to learn it.  Your comment could sway me or a fellow Patron to look up the song or be more interested to upvote it.  Songs carry so many stories and connections, and Iʻd love to find out more about what your connections are to the songs.

HOW TO VOTE

1. Click on the check box for as many of the song choices as you like below - yes, multiple votes are allowed. Please note - as soon as you tick the checkbox, the vote is counted. (You can look at the ticker on the right! Sometimes the ticking doesn't work on certain devices - in this case, try your laptop or desktop vs tablet or mobile.)

2. Comment with ONE SONG that you’d want for next month's live lesson. Remember that our Patrons span all across the world, so the songs that tend to win are worldwide, classic hits. I will also keep your suggestions in mind for our other monthly lessons. Please keep it to one song suggestion per person.

3. Upvote other people's song choices by clicking the heart on their comment. Upvotes are an easy way to double your voting power! Your upvotes matter, so I encourage you to come back and look through your fellow Patrons' comments to upvote.

Thank you, and happy voting!

SONIA BARDES

Taylor SWIFT : Look what you make me do !!

Carmen

(Just Like) Starting Over - John Lennon 1980 I’m a huge Beatles fan and I also enjoy their solo work. Double Fantasy turns 40 in 2020 and this is my favorite John Lennon song.

Maree Smith

Hopelessly Devoted To You. Rival Sons do an amazing cover, maybe even better than Livvy. I know it’s a song about a lost lover, but I think of my dad when I sing it - even though he died two years ago, there’s just no getting over him, I will miss him for the rest of my life. Plus he loved Olivia Newton-John. https://youtu.be/uCLrmZ0eQW8

Maree Smith

It has tricky chords but it sounds great on the uke and it’s a beautiful song.

John MacIntosh

I know it has made the list many times and come close but from this Canadian I would love to learn how to play A Case of You.

kim Hye min

How about “Tie a yellow ribbon” Tony Orlando & Dawn :)

Laura

Jolene by Dolly Parton

Gail Toto

Make you feel my love

Philip Brook

A new song worth checking out is Haim's 'Hallelujah' (which is NOT a cover of the Leonard Cohen classic).

Avril Jones

Chicago - If you leave me now

Lori Neff

This Too Shall Pass by OK Go (2010). It’s a great message in the song. I think it can be done fairly well on uke, and various levels of difficulty. There’s a cool xylophone part with plinking that would sound really cool.

Lori Neff

Also, Heat Wave by Irving Berlin. Because I live in Minnesota. And it’s a perfect ironic song to play in the winter. And I haven’t been able to find a version I like. And it’s a fabulous song!

Patricia Hurley

@ some point, Till I Hear it from you by the Gin Blossoms. But today I’m pulling for Hazy Shade & Make you feel my love!

Skip Carter

Gold On The Ceiling - Black Keys

N Phillips

Bellyache - Billie Eilish

Jess Curren

I would love to be able to play something my teenagers and younger kids recognize! I know that at one point there was a vote for something from "Greatest Showman" or I'd love a song from "Coco"

Christina Ciano

New Miserable Experience is one of my favorite CDs!! I listen to it from beginning to end often!

Susan Rankin

Ortopilot does a great acoustic guitar version of make you feel my love

Susan Rankin

High water for charley patton by Bob Dylan - great song! off the Love and Theft album

jeanfee

Great list! So many good ones!

Becky Zak

If I were a boy by Beyonce

Linda Askren

It Ain't Me, Kygo/Selena Gomez

Yoshi

Ring of Fire/Johnny cash

Maria Moon

Hawaiian Wedding Song :)

Brooke Gilbert

Cynthia has a great version of this song. I love Johnny Cash. It was one of the first I learned.

Patti Jones

Simple Man. This song has a lot of meaning for me. My 24 year old nephew, Adrian, LOVED to play guitar. Of the songs he played, ‘Simple Man’ - with Adrian playing guitar and his friend singing, was one of my favorites. Sadly, Adrian committed suicide 18 months ago. My learning ‘Simple Man’ would be my tribute to him.

Jann Powell

Miss Me More by Kelsea Ballerini

UkeLuv

Good song choices! Thank you!

Susan near the lakes

A condensed version of, "I'm your Captain/Closer to Home" by Grand Funk Railroad - This song has a cool intro

UkeLuv

Somewhere only we know.

Babara Ethan

I just heard "JUST BREATHE" sung by Willie Nelson. I love it and would like to place it on a list. Thanks.

Erwin

Toes - by Zack Brown. This is a great feel good song, especially when I've having a rough day. Listening to this song multiple times really lifts my spirits. And the Zack Brown Band plays really well. They are great to see in concert. Happy Holidays *<|8^)

Heidi

That’s a favorite! Also “One” (is the loneliest number)

Heidi

I’m sorry for your loss Patti. This would be a great way to honor Adrian.

Carol King

Please consider American dream by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Love the song and it always gives me that happy Aloha feeling

Patsy Walker

Come and Get Your Love by Redbone 1973.....I’m a true 70s girl and love this song! Also any Eagles song!!

Fran Cooper

Sister Golden Hair Surprise by America from 1975. Produced by George Martin, aka “the fifth Beatle”. It has a great rhythm and it would be fun to see Cynthia’s adaptation.

Rachelle Chong

Just listened to “Just Breathe” by Willie Nelson. Lovely. Could be a fingering lesson.

Rachelle Chong

For a current artist, it would be cool to do a Grace Vanderwaal. “I Don’t Know My Name” is the song she played on America’s Got Talent on the uke. She went on to win at age 12.

Dangereux

Winter Song - Ingrid Michaelson

Rich Montoya

Barbara, an excellent suggestion. I was going to recommend this song as well and then I saw your post. Pearl Jam/Eddie Vedder are my favorite musicians and l would love to learn this song. Also Eddie Vedder is a ukulele enthusiast which makes the song even better. Google Eddie Vedder "Ukulele Songs". I didn't know Willie did a cover of this song. Just watched the video and it is equally impressive. Let's hope our song suggestion makes the cut!

Polyxeni

"Under The Bridge" by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Karin

I'm still standing - Phil Collins

Bob Shilling

Any Hank Williams song - by Hank Williams. Norah Jones is great, but nobody beats Hank.

Karin

So sorry, you are absolutely right, Elton John it is :D

Karen Hoffman

Kenny Loggins - Return to Pooh Corner

Janet Amos

I think OPEN ROAD by Roo Panes would be a fun one to learn! It's newer-ish (2013). It's all about adventure and possibilities and I think it would be an upbeat song to start the decade with!

Liberty

I really hope memories wins 😍🙏

Janice Lee

Eternal Flame by The Bangles

Terrina Fairbrother

San Francisco Bay Blues... so many people have done covers of this fabulous song but I’d love to see what Cynthia can do with it!!!!!

Jo Ann Wong

Speechless by Dan and Shay

UkeLuv

Christmas Valentine, Ingrid Michaelson and Jason Mraz
