{Patron-only post: please click through and heart this post so I know you've seen it, thank you!}

Aloha, Patrons!

I hope you are well, and I'm sending lots of love as we move together through this strange and changing world.  Now more than ever, I appreciate that we are a global community, that we are all connected, and that music can unite us during this time of uncertainty.  Please know that I am always thinking of ways to bring the community together and make music - it's the thing that brings me calm and gives me solace.

I shared in last Saturday's Beatles Livestream that my brother in NYC has been sick and tested positive for Covid-19.  I'm relieved to say that he is recovering.  I am so grateful for the love and positive energy from our Patron community and the wider ukulele community.
Music and art have always been a source of healing, and it's important to me to keep sharing music and creating space for people to come together and connect and process this experience.

I ask for your patience, support, and help during this time, and I ask each of you to extend your aloha to our community and beyond.  Comment with kindness, answer questions, share a song of hope, teach a friend, offer encouragement and inspiration.  Let's all do what we can to cultivate more compassion in the world right now.  Please take care of yourselves.

Ok, onto the newsletter.  Welcome to April 2020!  Here's what's new this month, read on for details:

  • New Newsletter name :)
  • Bonus Beginner Live Jam at a UK/Europe friendly time
  • Guest teachers this month: U-Bass Workshop with Ukulenny, Music Theory Lesson with Abe Lagrimas, Jr.

As the world has suddenly moved inside and online, we've seen this community grow to  4000 members.  Wow.  Thank you for being here.  We're glad to have you.

As always, thanks to all of you for directly supporting my work and for helping to create a powerful and positive online ukulele community.  I believe we can change the world, one uke at a time. :)

Our New Patron Newsletter Name - Congratulations, Ken!

Last month, I asked you to help come up with a cute Patron Newsletter name. You all delivered!  The comments in that post are swimming in creative musical/uke puns and other name ideas.

The winner is Ken Freestone, who came up with "A Chording to Cynthia" which makes me low-key chuckle every time (mark of a good pun).  I'll message you about sending you a special thank you gift.

Feel free to keep suggesting more punny Patron newsletter names.  If I see something fun, I'll change it up.  Thank you all for playing. :)

Guest teachers : U-Bass Workshop with Ukulenny, Music Theory Lesson with Abe Lagrimas, Jr.

Many of my musician friends are not able to perform right now, which means that they have more time to teach - so I have recruited them to teach us on Patreon. :)  And I say "us," because I'm excited to learn from them too.

I'm still coordinating our schedules, but you can expect these lessons later in the month.  Both of these guest lessons will be for the Intermediate level tier ($20+).  I'm happy to use this platform to support great ukulele artists and teachers while sharing more knowledge and music with Patrons.

100 Days of Ukulele Songs: #100DaysUke2020 + 100 Days of Vocal Exploration!

This year's 100 Days of Ukulele Songs project kicks off today, and it's already so exciting to see everyone sharing their Day 1 videos.  Visit this post to find out more about joining, or follow along and cheer on your fellow Patrons via the “100 Days of Ukulele Songs" facebook group  or via our community Instagram channel at @CLukesquad.

I will also participate in posting ukulele videos, and this year I'm adding a second project, which I'm calling 100 Days of Vocal Exploration.  I will share videos on my new voice channel - please subscribe to follow along.  I don't clearly know what I'll be sharing yet - but that's the beauty of this project, to start the journey and see where it leads.  I only know that I feel it's important right now that I take this vocal exploration and that I share it with others.

Thank you for making it to the end!  Take care, be well, and see you online soon!

Best wishes and mahalo to you and your brother 😎🎶🤙🙏😷😊! Stay well and thanks for all you do to make the world a little better, one day at a time.

James Elliott

Hi Cynthia (and, Ukulenny), I am a long time follower, but a new Patron. Thank you so much for all that you do for the ukulele community. The latest uke sessions covering Beatles tunes have been great. Mahalo Nui Loa! (PS - Wonderful news about your brother!)

Teri Carilli

I'm a new Patron and so glad I found you! I've enjoyed a few of the more recent jams and loving the lessons and play alongs. I've been playing for 10 years but took a break for about 5 of those due to tendon issues in my hands. Two surgeries later and I can play again. Happiness! I have a few ukes but my favorite is a concert Kanile'a. :)

Amy Petelka

I am getting better everyday at my uke playing, thanks to you! Friday I posted a video on my fb page of me playing Dont Worry Be Happy. This Friday I will post Sunny Side of Life. Thanks to you I am able to share a little happiness every week. Thank you!

Britta Rey

Looking forward to the Live Jam at a Europe friendly time 😃 Thank you for this

Kaiyang Yin

Hi Cynthia, new to Patron! I’ve joined and love the recent three online jamming! My level is probably between beginner and intermedia, and I’m playing not only an uke but also a self-made baking tin Banjo uke! I’ve also introduced your channel to all my uke playing friends, and we’re jamming together now :)

Heather Dykes

Cynthia,I'm a new patron as well. I started on the uke in November and learned to strum and play my first chords from your YouTube videos. The first song I learned was the Lion Sleeps Tonight from your tutorial.

Laetitia Boulé

Hi Cynthia ! I'm from Bordeaux, France ! I live with Gio, who is from Tahiti and runs a Tahitian restaurant. He's been taking uke lessons for a few weeks only... As for me, I love singing, and since I found you on YouTube, I began to play as well... I love your art, your pedagogy, your delicacy, and I have to say thank you so much for your generosity !

Yavar Moghimi

I've been learning the ukulele from your videos for the past year Cynthia, but the coronavirus has inspired me to pursue learning the ukulele more seriously and to sign up with Patreon. I play a Ranch, model no-UK23, but started on my kids ukuleles. My favorite tutorials of yours are Landslide and Space Oddity.

Lisa M Iturzaeta

Hi Cynthia, I'm a new Patron. I've been following you on Youtube for the last year. With all the craziness in the world and the stay home order in California, I've been playing the Uke every day and decided to join. I have a Kamoa ukulele that I received as a gift about a year ago. I'm looking forward to learning from you.

Jodie Rojany

I hope your brother completely recovers soon Cynthia 🌼🌈🌼 Thank you for adding so much joy and peace to our lives with your amazing instruction. I am blessed to have you as my teacher

Amy Kaiser

Hi, I just discovered your tutorials through a friend a couple of weeks ago. I play an Ohana concert Uke. I started playing about 10 years ago. I took some lessons and learned mostly kids songs to play for my preschool class. I played daily with the children for years. I've been out of the classroom for 3 years and my uke gathered dust. The say at home order in California led me to pick it up again. I remember more than I thought I would and I'm looking forward to learning some new songs.

Jackson J Waddill

The new name for the newsletter is a cool pun, indeed. I love puns; I can relate to your "low-key chuckle." I'll bet Ken is a peach of a guy!

Franziska

I am so looking forward to the live jam at a European friendly time! Thanks Cynthia!

Anne Bemel

Hi, I am also a new patron. I live in California. I've been following Cynthia for about 2 years now and totally love the intermediate tutorials - just enough of a challenge without being overwhelming. I just finished doing the one for Make You Feel My Love from March. I mostly play a tenor Kamoa with a low G string.

Jen Russo

Hello! New and proud Patron here :) I went to the Waikoloa Ukulele Festival on the big island last month as was instantly hooked. I bought a cheap ukulele on Amazon, found Cynthia’s amazing tutorials on YouTube and haven’t looked back. Learning to play the ukulele had been a blessing during these stressful times, and I can’t wait to tune into my first Live Jam with you all! Aloha!!

Dorian Davis

Hi uke lovers! I'm a new patron here. I've had a ukulele for about a decade and dabbled here and there but always gave up as I have never been very musically inclined and never really say much progress and got frustrated with myself. With the Covid-19 pandemic and being in quarantine, I figured now was a better time than any to pick up my uke and actually commit to it. On day one of searching Youtube for beginner tutorials I found Cynthia and followed her on YT & IG . I've been joining the livestreams and really enjoying my uke this time around. Bonus- I can actually see a lot of improvement so far! I have joined the 100 days challenge and so far completed 6 days. I am very much enjoying and looking forward to continuing being part of this uke community and growing as a uke player. Aloha!!

Gail Curtis

Prayers and healing vibrations to your brother. I hope he recovers quickly. In the meantime, am loving your teaching and play-alongs. So happy to have you in my world during the plague! Best to you, sweet lady.

Cynthia Lin

welcome, Teri! great to hear that you made it back to uke after those surgeries. enjoy that kanile'a!

Cynthia Lin

hi Britta! yay, i hope it's a good opportunity to see some Patrons for the first time in a live jam.

Cynthia Lin

welcome, Kaiyang! hopefully you'll share a picture of the baking tin uke on one of our community pages, i'm sure folks will get a kick out of it!

Cynthia Lin

welcome, Dorian! awesome to see you jumping into the project and tuning for the livestreams!

Angie Centa

Hola! This is Angie from Cartagena, Colombia!!! I've been learning the uke with your videos from over a year now. Thank you for the great job you do, hopefully one day i'll be able to play as good as you!

Gabrielle Badham

Hello. You have taught me ukulele and I am in love with it. I'm new to parton and trying to navigate my way through it. How do I search yo find the video lesson of your older songs e.g hotel California, bohemian rhapsody? Thanks
