Aloha, Patrons!

As we enter November, the seasons are changing for many of us, and the year is drawing to a close. I hope this month finds you and yours doing well. Here in the US, many are gearing up for Thanksgiving and the winter Holidays. I'm thankful for the opportunity to make music with all of you!

Welcome to all the new Patrons and "Quarantine Newbies" aka "Qukes"!  Please read on below for newbie-specific info, and introduce yourself in the comments.

Thank you to all reading this, new or not, for directly supporting my work and for helping to create a powerful and positive online ukulele community. Shoutout to our Community Managers, Facebook group moderators, and regional Squad leaders who give their time and energy to support our Patron family and the wider ukulele community. Leadership is how a community grows, so if you'd like to lead, go for it. If you're not sure how to start, watch other leaders and imitate, and ask for help. Feel free to comment here or in our private Facebook group (find the link near the end of this post).

November theme: Warming up for the Holidays!

It may seem too early for holiday music, but I personally am ready for some holiday cheer, and I've also got some special holiday song projects planned for the Patrons, so let's start practicing.  For our monthly CL x Ukulenny Community Livestream, an official Patron-sponsored event, we'll gather the Saturday after Thanksgiving for a Holiday Strum Party.  I look forward to gathering with family and friends for a heartwarming sing- and strum-along.

Last month, I invited you to join in a "Zombie Heart" virtual flash mob, and this month we'll do something similiar with "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree."  We'll learn the beginner-friendly version from my Beginner Holiday Songbook for our Beginner Live Jam this Thursday.  For the Intermediate Live Jam, I'm putting together a new Intermediate Holiday Songbook.

Do you have song suggestions for this month's theme?  Popular songs for the season you've been wanting to learn?  Share in the comments below.

Thank you for reading, and hope to see you online soon!

Aloha Cynthia and her patrons! I’m a brand new patron from Seattle. It was the zombie prom that finally convinced me to join. I am an upper intermediate level Uke and guitar player. I play Uke in a jazzy trio with a percussionist and guitar player and I share ukulele vids often on my YouTube channel (youtube.com/users/mittensforkristel). I have learned a lot of tunes from Cynthia Lin and her arrangements often show up at our southeast seattle Uke club that I help manage. I’m embarrassed that I didn’t become a patron sooner because I’ve been enjoying Cynthia’s music and song arrangements for nearly 4 years. But here I am. Thanks for all you do Ms Lin!

Franziska

It's great to start with Holiday songs. How about Santa Baby and All I want for Christmas is a real good Tan?

Mariah Fraser

Hello, Cynthia! I would love it if you'd teach Christmas Valentine by Ingrid Michaelson and Jason Mraz. It's such a cute song and fun because it's a little different from standard Christmas songs. Thanks for all that you do! I love all of your tutorials and videos!

Annie Barten

I'm a new patron from LA, and also a total newbie. I just bought a CL signature uke for myself as a 40th birthday present. It's beautiful! I am excited to learn something new for my new decade of life, and I hope learning to play will bring joy and fun to my life in the midst of a difficult year.

Lena Nasta

I joined a while back, but am just introducing myself. My name is Lena. I've been playing for about a month and am playing on a Luna concert uke. I love Cynthia's arrangements, and have been following late on the live events.

Emily Leedy

Hello from Southern Maryland! I'm brand new to the community as of last month. My dad is a musical hobby-ist and I have him to thank for this new adventure. We found an old ukulele when my mom was cleaning out my grandparents home two or so years ago, and it watched me from a corner for awhile. Just under a year ago, I picked up a few lessons here and there, got a new, and lovely ukulele (thanks again, Dad)...then quarantine. I have loved the CL videos on YouTube and am so glad to be a part of the community now.

Adriana Yon

How about Jingle Bell Rock or Merry Christmas Baby by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band?

Emily Stehle

I joined about six months ago when I started Cynthia's 100 Day Challenge. Been playing ukulele for about 4 1/2 years and still learning (although I teach free beginner classes at my local library). I'm a member of the Tampa Bay Ukulele Society, learning to play through free library classes, have been a member of five uke bands (yeah, volunteering counts, doesn't it?) and have branched out and coordinate/direct a one-day festival (Uka-PALOOZA! at the Florida State Fair. 2021 would've been our third year, cancelled because of Covid-19.

Cynthia Lin

welcome, Brett! glad you were able to catch the Zombie Prom! what’s the name of your uke club? we may have other Seattle folks here who might be interested

Cynthia Lin

welcome, Annie! congrats on the CL Signature Uke, i hope it brings you a lot of joy 😊

Cynthia Lin

welcome, Emily! that’s a sweet story, i love how old ukes can inspire new journeys. enjoy!

Roy

I joined on Halloween, after finding Cynthia a year ago just before Thanksgiving. I have a Gretsch Concert uke and an Ohana all wood tenor. I figured after almost a year it was time to jump in and join. I live on the 9th Island (Vegas...LOL) but due to the virus have not approached any of the local clubs. I am a decent drummer (but no work for live music anymore) and beginner uke player. Thank you Cynthia, I can only imagine how much work it takes for all the content.

Lisa Reinhard

I'd love Winter Wonderland - I just love the song and feel like it would offer lots of different levels for beginners, intermediates, ...

Lisa Aman

Hi Cynthia, 😊 I am from 🇬🇧 and have joined a couple of months ago and have been learning the ukulele. I enjoy watching your videos and have learnt a lot and wanted to say a BIG Thank You! for having a YouTube channel and Patreon and teaching all of us to learn to play the ukulele 😊 I thought for a good Christmas song, When A Child is born by Johnny Mathis? It is a Beautiful song! 😊❤️

Nicole Daufeldt

Hi Cynthia, please let's do walking in a winter wonderland ⛄🌨❄☀ I love happy songs while most of them are a bit sad :) hopefully, Niki

We call ourselves “the southeast seattle ukulele club” we used to meet twice a month at a senior center for a few years before covid. Maybe someday we’ll be able to do that again. I have done a few classes on zoom during the quarantine for our club. I did one class on :jazz chords, one on the blues, one on popular chord progressions, one on fingerpicking and a few meetups where we just sang together. I manage our email list (we have about 5o folks on the list but only about ten active members and about ten casual members. We are a small club but very welcoming. Any one who wants more info can contact me blackdragontea at gmail dot com. Thanks for replying to me Cynthia! 😀

Hello Cynthia and all you patreons. I joined in the summer after my daughter and I started learning some of your songs. I picked up the ukulele a few years ago. My husband had bought one thinking it might help to connect with our grandson, who is on the autism spectrum. I didn't think I had any musical ability after having a hard time on the piano and the guitar as an adult, but the ukulele changed all that!! It's so approachable and I want to play every day. It brings music into my life in a very interactive way. I like to sing but my voice isn't strong so I didn't sing much by myself. Now I sing every day and spend the rest of the day humming the songs I played. Someone gave me a tenor ukulele which I play daily and I let my daughter try the soprano. She was hooked the first day, so I gave it to her and now we play together whenever she comes in town. Thank you so much for providing such wonderful arrangements and tutorials!

Cynthia Lin

that's one of my favorites from Cozy Christmas, it would be interesting to teach a beginner version and then a jazzy version... thanks, Lisa!

Cynthia Lin

welcome, Roy! thanks for recognizing the work behind my content. i put a lot of care into it. enjoy, glad to have you here!

Cynthia Lin

welcome, Lisa! i haven't heard that song, but i do love Johnny Mathis, will check it out!

Lynn

Hi Cynthia would love to learn a simple to intermediate version of Christmas Time is Here the Charlie Brown Classic... or Michael Bubles Grown up Christmas list....all the best to you xx

Amanda Ballard

I’m new, I got my uke for my birthday a year ago! I have loved your tutorials on Youtube, and I finally joined to get the 3rd lesson to Stairway to Heaven! I would love to learn my favorite Christmas song, Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney.

Amanda Crossland

Hi, I'm Amanda and I'm a new patron! From the UK, I've been teaching myself to play ukulele for almost 18 months after never playing an instrument before. When lockdown came I picked up my uke and started playing with a vengeance, taking my friends and family on a virtual cruise instead (which is what we should have been doing), playing daft songs and keeping them entertained for around 3 weeks. Someone then suggested the 100 days project and that was it, totally hooked. I only intended to do a few songs but ended up staying the course, making loads of new friends along the way. It's been a life saver during these uncertain times and has really helped me to find my voice again. So now it's time to give something back and I finally got around to signing up. I've also set up a uke group locally, despite our current lockdown situation, and am gradually persuading them all to do the 100 days next year LOL! Thanks to Cynthia and all of your support team, you are all awesome. I hope you appreciate how much you are valued xxx

DAVIS

Hello Cynthia , i am a newbie in ukele and in music . It was nice to see your videos on YouTube for my practice . So I am happy to be part of Patreon and try to follow your courses . Very enthousiaste to try a new instrument. Regards Alain
