This month's Live Lesson: "Someone Like You" by Adele
In the original version of this song, only piano accompanies Adele's grand, moving voice. The piano is steadily arpeggiating, playing the individual notes of the chord - which is what we do on the ukulele when we are fingerpicking. We will fingerpick this song almost entirely, but beginners can strum or try a half-time pick, which I'll demonstrate in the lesson.
Because the piano is so important, I wanted to make sure the uke part maps closely to the original song. I moved the key of the song up to Bb so that we would have the appropriate bassline walk-down. I'll explain more about that in the lesson. If you want to play in the same key as the original, then you could tune down each string by half a step - I will also demonstrate that in the lesson. The bridge features some bonus chords for more advanced players.
I'll play a preview of my arrangement in today's 5@5, tune in if you'd like!
We'll warm up with a review of last month's lesson, "Tennessee Whiskey."

A note about our monthly Live Lessons
My goal is to teach and arrange a lesson that is interesting for all levels. I will walk through the lesson by starting with beginner-level strumming, and gradually layer on more challenging options for advanced players.
I encourage you to play at your level, and embrace your own pace of incrementally leveling up. You can re-watch the lesson as many times as you like. Grasp the basics on the first go-round, and each time you review, you'll pick up new tips and techniques. You can use this method to become a better student and better learner - by building more awareness and more patience. :)
