Aloha, Patrons!
Happy new year! The official January newsletter is coming soon, but I wanted to get you info about the next Vocal Workshop series because we're starting this Tuesday, January 4th. (sorry for the short notice! classes will be recorded, so you can catch up anytime!)
Thank you to all the Patrons who joined the pilot run of the Vocal Workshop series in December. I am breaking new ground with this uke-based method for learning the voice, and I appreciate the opportunity to explore and develop a structure for this kind of teaching. If you are curious about getting to know your voice and want to support more voice teaching, please join me.
January Vocal Workshop details
Dates: Tuesdays January 4, 11, 25 (skipping the 18th)
Time: live Zoom sessions at 10am Hawaii Time time converter (there will be no late class, now that we are recording. sorry, late class friends, see specific notes below for switching over, and hope you can join us!)
Class will be recorded on YouTube and you can play back anytime.
Requirements: be able to comfortably strum "Can't Help Falling in Love" (this tutorial features fingerpicking, we only need strumming for voice workshop purposes) and play and read tab on a basic level.
We will be starting from the beginning again, to welcome in any new folks, so if you took last month's workshop, there will be some repeated material. However, voice work is continual work, so I believe you will find new insights by going through this class cycle again. The real key to getting to know your own instrument is to spend more time with your voice.

How to Join
To sign up, go to https://patreon.com/join/cynthialin and change your Patreon tier to the $30 JANUARY VOCAL WORKSHOP tier. Be sure to change the tier and not just the amount. You will only be charged for the difference in upgrading your tier.
Please check the tier selected, and hit the Edit link if you don't have the right tier. Access to class posts is based on your tier, not the pledge amount, so be sure to verify the tier.
If you successfully change the tier, you'll be able to see this post and the lesson reviews from last month. You can change the tier back to whatever level you like after the workshop.
- If you were part of the EARLY CLASS last month, you don't need to change anything. This is the same tier.
- If you were part of the LATE CLASS last month and want to continue, select this new tier. Your current monthly charge will apply to this new tier and you will not be charged again.
- If you were part of the LATE CLASS last month and do not want to continue, choose your desired tier, and message or comment below for a refund for the difference in tiers. (We may need to wait a few days for this month's charges to be processed before we can then process the refund, but no worries, it's easy to issue a refund.)
- $50 Platinum Patrons, if you're interested in joining this class, please message or comment with your interest. Stay at your tier, and we'll make sure to include you on class posts.
Class Zoom info, recording links, and updates will be posted to this tier.
Any questions? Post below!
Class reminders
- During the class, you need to be in a quiet place where you can make uninhibited noise. You need to be able to hear yourself well and make sound with no inhibitions (we're going to make some weird sounds 😆). I'd recommend a room with a closed door and a mirror so you can observe your jaw. A closet or bathroom can work well!
- Start doing the daily vocal warmup from my mindbodyvoice channel.
- We will do a singing with tab exercise - practice with this voice exercise on the ukulele.
- Folks at the $20 tier also have access to this Intro to Singing Workshop that I taught last year.
Why voice work? + Prep for 100 Days Project
I believe voice work is fundamental for all humans. The voice is an instrument we are all born with, and one that takes a lot of self-awareness to command (learning the voice is more difficult than learning the uke). When you have control of your voice, you have the confidence to express yourself in whatever way you like.
Specifically because the 100 Days of Ukulele project is starting again on Feb 13th, I'd like to give as many players the basics of voice in advance of the project, so that they can practice and explore their vocals during the course of the project. I believe this is the next step to musicality for uke players, especially for repeat project participants. 100 Days Project info will be coming later this month.
I am planning to teach this workshop again in February, and then will likely take a break to focus on the 100 Days Project.
Thank you! Hope to see you in voice class!
xo cynthia.
