Aloha, Patrons!

Welcome to all the New Patrons who've just joined us!  Please introduce yourself, take time to look around, check out our Welcome Guide / FAQ post, learn to use the Cynthia Lin Song Index to find lessons and videos, and join our private Facebook group (the best place to get help with Patreon!).  Want to share a picture of a new ukulele? :)  Post over on our Community page!  See the bottom of this post for more resources to get started in our community.   We're so happy to have you here!

Share Your Aloha - Community Check-in

How can we make a positive difference in the world?  I think about this question frequently, and continually come back to this answer: Change begins right where you are, starting with yourself.  Can you give yourself a dose of kindness and compassion?  When we embody aloha, it naturally spills over and touches those around us.  But often, we are harder on ourselves than we would ever be with other people.

The beauty of a challenge like the 100 Days of Ukulele Project (which we just wrapped up at the end of May) is that everyone who participates is transformed.  It is a journey of teaching yourself the healing aloha of daily creative time, and learning that patience and persistence over time becomes confidence and skill.  A big part of the 100 Days of Ukulele Project is that we take time to support and be inspired by the journeys of our fellow project participants.  It's a reminder that, in ukulele and in life, we can support each other in our individual journeys, and we can and should give ourselves as much grace as we give others.

If you like, please say Aloha in the comments below - could be just a quick hello, an update from your ukulele or creative life, what you're working on, if you have a group to play with, any aha or lightbulb moments that you've had recently (I love hearing about those!).  If you host a jam or event and would like to invite Patrons, you can share that too.  Feel free to post in the comments, and take a moment to read and respond to other folks' comments.  💛

Mad4Uke Paris

Thank you Fellow Leo ♌️ 🦁 for all that you do. I’m from San Fran (native) but live in Paris. Thanks for making the hours more Euro friendly. Been spending time in Malaga-South of Spain living near the beach at Pedregalejo. Every morning I prepare my breakfast and my uke faithfully joins me. But Every chance I get I sit along the promenade and “charm” the locals ( even if I’m no CynLin). I have become a type of icon in this village like paradise. Amazing how the tiny soprano attracts more folks than a Jack Russell. Kids and seniors alike can’t resist us. So happy to spread this joy. Hope to see you guys in Malaga someday. Love ❤️ 🎶 🏖 🌞

Thank you Cynthia. Your message about Aloha was very timely and will be helpful when I provide some public speaking tips and training for some local Minority (under represented) academic scholarship students. Also for my upcoming Beginner Ukulele class at MUD-12. Wise words!! Aloha Friends! There are many excellent opportunities to "Jam" with ukulele clubs online, but if you are still looking for a friendly group I'd like to invite you to join my "Triad Ukulele Zoom Jams" every other Tuesday at 7:00pm Eastern Time (US/Canada). We are certainly not experts, and we play songs that are approachable and playable for most beginner and intermediate players (similar in level to Cynthia's Beginner Songbook). More info, and registration for notification of jams, can be found at https://www.triadukulele.com/ . Thanks!

Aloha or G'day from the Gold Coast Australia. Sharing what I have been working on... I always warm up to a Matt Dahlberg version of Here Comes the Sun which I learned before Cynthia put hers out and I keep meaning to properly learn her version, and also Cynthia's version of Blackbird. I am adding to that Daniel Ho's Pineapple Mango which came with my low-budget Romero Creations ST concert - a pretty tune. Even if I don't have time for anything else, I can run through a few melodies. I am catching up on Cynthia's tutorials I have missed and my new project is learning Pachelbel's Canon in D. I know it has been used a million times in pop music, but it is so pleasant. I have found various versions on the internet and will choose one to learn. I have been under the weather with a fierce cold, but am also doing the voice lessons via YouTube when I can. Too early to join Zoom - don't want to scare anyone. Lyn Cook

I plan on going to the SF Ukesplosion and would love it if there was a Patreon get-together! I don’t really know anyone so that would be great! Otherwise, I’ll be awkwardly strumming by myself, hee hee.

Aloha! I just read the newsletter and finished watching the open mic replays one and two of the 100 days project. Well worth watching and bravo to those who participated, I will likely do this next year. I finished the 100 days and loved it, I still try to watch what others are still doing on the 100 days and encourage them. I feel like I am a better player because of this project. I look forward to it next year and the cool 100 days shirt!

Cynthia Lin

G'day, Lyn! Pachebel's is lovely, and easier on the ukulele in C. one to consider for the Patrons!

Cynthia Lin

hi Genevieve! we'll definitely get you connected with folks in SF, glad you'll be joining us!

Dorian Davis

I’ll be at the SF Ukesplosion - I’m really looking forward to it!

Joanna shrigley

What is the 'Hula Lesson' on 30th?!! ;-)

Barbara Fleeman

We're planning to go to SF Ukesplosion. Looking forward to it!
