Aloha, Patrons! A special welcome to new Patrons and a happy February to you all!  If you're new, please introduce yourself in the comments, and look for the special New Patrons section below.

Community announcements

💯 100 Days of Ukulele 2023 is back!  Who's in??  This Patreon community started with me sharing my journey of the first 100 Days of Ukulele project back in 2015. This year's #100DaysUke2023 will kick off on February 22nd. Let me know in the comments if you're planning to participate.  More details about this year's project are coming soon - in the mean time, check out the 100 Days FAQ.

🎸 Song-Leading Practice Circles on Zoom, for aspiring teachers, jam leaders, and performers - After last month's Intro to Song-Leading Workshop for Intermediates, I invited Patrons at the $20+ level to practice those skills in a small-group Song-Leading Practice Circle on Zoom. See this post for more details. My goal is to help intermediate players become more confident with their rhythm and in front of a crowd.  I look forward to developing this coaching series over the year.

🎥 Open Mic Video Submissions for Songbird and Mindful Fingerpicking - Last month I invited Patrons to share video links of yourselves working on our Live Lesson and Beginner Jam techniques, and it's been so awesome to see your work!  Check out the beautiful versions of Songbird from your fellow Patrons, linked in the post comments.  This lesson is now available to all Patrons. I also enjoyed seeing how many of you applied the lessons from the Mindful Fingerpicking Beginner Jam.  Keep the Open Mic videos coming!

⏱ Mindful Strumming and Metronome practice for this month's Beginner and Intermediate Jam - Music is 2 things: Rhythm and Melody.  Rhythm is hard; rhythm is also the primary way to improve your playing.  Let's work on rhythm this month in our live jams.  I'll help you walk through it. :)

🗣 Voice Workshop continues focus on "Moon River" - We've been steadily working on "Moon River" in the weekly Voice Workshop ($30+), and it's been great to see progress videos for our Voice Workshop squad.  If you're interested in learning more about voice but can't attend live, you can watch lesson replays and submit videos for feedback.  Find out more.

My 2023 Community Focus: Developing more confident and compassionate ukulele players, singers, and teachers through Mindful Practice, Open Mics, and Song-Leading Circles. See more in January's Newsletter post.

Thanks for reading, for being here, for supporting my journey and for sharing yours.

Special note for new Patrons

If you're new, I invite you to take some time to get to know the platform - there's a lot here, and it may take a while to navigate the many lessons and posts.  The community WelcomeGuide/FAQ post is a good place to start.  Please be patient, and I promise it will get easier!

To find a specific song or lesson, learn to use the updated Cynthia Lin Song Index.  Thank you to the Community Managers for creating and maintaining this helpful resource.

Please introduce yourself in the comments: I'd love to hear how long you've been playing, what kind of uke you play, if you have a group to play with, what songs you've been working on, or anything else you'd like to share.

If you have questions about Patreon, I encourage you to post your questions in the comments below or to one of our Community groups. Our community has tons of friendly folks who love sharing their uke experience. Join our Patron-only Facebook group (be sure to answer BOTH membership questions) or post your question on the Community tab here on Patreon.

Seasoned Patrons, I always appreciate it when you help me answer any newbie questions in the comments of this or any post.  Thank you! Feel free to post your questions in the comments as well.

Louise Friborg Andersen

Hi! I’m new as a patron, but I’ve followed Cynthia for a year. I started playing the uke February 2022, and thanks to Cynthia, I can now confidently play with my band. I would like to add how grateful I am for all the lessons. Last Sunday I lost my grandmother, and during her last weeks, where dementia had stolen her memories and most of her words, my most precious moments with her was playing the uke and listening to her singing along - somehow she remembered the lyrics. So thank you, Cynthia, for that wonderful experience ❤️

Christine G

I need to get back to the Voice Lessons level of Patreon. I loved the few months I worked it last year. Hoping to get back by March.

Jan C

I'm planning to participate in the 100 days. I've been dumping the many "unused video takes" stored on my ipad from last year. I admired people who did "One take Wednesdays" . I have my notebook out listing ideas and one of my goals is to submit "imperfect works in progress."

Charrissa Lin

I'm in for 100 days! And I think I've convinced two friends to join too!

kevl42

I am looking forward to the 100 days again! I'm thinking that this year I'm going to work my way through 100 days of practice drills. There, I said it. It's happening.

JeriAnn Cherek

Hi Louise, I am a new patron too (also followed Cynthia for a year!) and joined after the same experience - playing ukulele for my Dad was one of the few comforts I could give him at the end. Thanks for sharing, and thanks Cynthia, you are inspiring!

Debi Veranth

I’m in for the 100 days. Can’t do all 100 due to a vacation but excited for the part I can do.

Arlo Bess

Hello all, my name is Arlo and I have been playing for about 3 years now. I live onboard and travel the carribean on my sailboat. Her name is Seaduction. Hoping to take my uke skills to the next level. Cynthia your teaching and skills are amazing!

Stefanie Oepen

I'n in for the 100 Days. Have no specific plans, but want to record a video every day and see where it takes me. It's gonna be fun!

Brenda Strech

I am looking forward to 100 days of ukulele. I am determined to be more consistent

Leslie Lindeman

Yes to 100 days - my second time. I will be moving about quite a lot during that time, so may not be as consistent as last year.

Julie Heath

I’m going to try 100 Days. I am playing every day but I think recording it will be quite a challenge for me!

Vivian Tiegen

Hi. My name is Vivian. I live in Jupiter, FL. I bought myself a Mitchell Koa Wood Uke the day after Thanksgiving. I am new to Uke, but have taken guitar lessons in the past. I am enjoying my lessons and look forward to all the events in this group. I plan to try the 100 cays.

Vivian Tiegen

Question: When traveling with your Uke, where do you put it during the flight? Does it fit under the seat in front of you?

Cynthia Lin

thank you both for sharing! music is so powerful, might be the best understood human language

Donna Grant

I am in for the 💯 days of ukulele

Lynn Corin

I'm up for the 100 days but will probably be a series of one take wonders!

Avni Pravin

I'm in for the 100 days! Can't wait to get started <3

Avni Pravin

I put it in the overhead, on top of another suitcase so it won't get squished in case of turbulence/shifting bags

Piero

I'm drooling to hear tons of new Cynthia's performances, and/but hope some days will be dedicated to "silly techie creator stuff" (e.g. learning how [VST plugins] like Loudmax can "easily", dramatically improve OBS livestream, and even recording... for us poor beginners ;)
