What is The 100 Day Project?

#The100DayProject is a free and inclusive art project, covering any artistic discipline you might enjoy (not just ukulele or music). It takes place annually (since 2014, making this year its tenth!), and is located primarily on Instagram. The global Project encourages people around the world to commit to 100 days of exploring their creativity in whatever way ignites their passion.

What is 100 Days of Ukulele? In 2015, I joined in and called my ukulele-specific project #100DaysofUkuleleSongs.  My goals were simply to get better at ukulele, and to get better at filming and recording myself.  I used the project to push myself out of my comfort zone and get over the fear of sharing my art.

That year's project turned into my album Ukulele Days, which then went on to hit the Billboard charts!  In 2018, I formally invited ukulele players around the world to join me during the hundred day period, and many did. In subsequent years, even more Patrons and other ukulele friends joined in. Perhaps you are one of them! A wonderful community has grown up around this practice, especially in our dedicated Facebook group.

Now, what we call 100 Days of Ukulele is a 100-day habit-building creativity challenge with no rules. There's no requirement to play whole songs or to make long videos -- make of the project what you wish!

How to Join 100 Days of Ukulele 2023

The global 100 Days Project has announced its 2023 start date, and our 100 Days of Ukulele is going to follow the same calendar. Day 1 will be February 22nd (in whatever time zone you're in) and Day 100 will be June 1st.

Essentially, you will create a project for yourself, and post on social media each day to track your own progress.  There are no rules or prompts: this is your project.  If you can spend 5 minutes with your uke every day for 100 days, you have done something amazing!  Some folks like to start with a larger goal, some like to tackle each day anew.  We encourage folks to think about how to make their 100 Days habits sustainable.

Where to post? Our 100 Days of Uke 2022 Project Communities

I will update this section as our communities get started and go live.  You can choose whichever platform works for you.

I encourage you to get involved in one of our Project Communities.  It makes a huge difference to feel the moral support of hundreds of folks around the world who are also doing the Project.  If you're not ready to do the project this year, please join to support others and leave encouraging comments.  You might be inspired to join next year!

Interested folks can read through last year's kickoff post, the FAQ linked below and post your questions in the comments. Will you be participating? I'd love to hear about your 100 Days plans for 2023!  And hope to see you at our live Kick-off Party!

Not big on social media, so would consider if there is enough interest for something here on patron. (No biggie if not) Thanks.

Great idea to use the community tab for those of us who don’t use any social media.

I’ll try to participate. Posting videos of my playing makes me nervous, but it will me excellent training. If I’m very brave when we start, I’ll post on Instagram. Plan B is the Facebook community. I love the project!

Nasti Hase

In case you didn't see my post on yesterday's post with wonderful lesson...

Cynthia, I think Lenny calls the mute-strum Schmute rather than Smute. I misspelled it! Unfortunately I will be unable to join the 100 day kickoff live today since I have my time teaching speech through song with printed words to my friend who had a stroke. Mahalo!

Janice Collins

I was not able to watch the replay. I missed the live kick off. Is the link broken?

Teri Shamlian

I made it 60 days last year. Instead of thinking I didn't make 100 days, I realized what a commitment 60 days was and embraced it. This year I started on 2/17, 5 days early worked for me.. Doesn't matter when you start it's what you learn on the journey!!! Uke Rocks!!!

I may dabble with the Patreon community posting option. Have a love/ hate relationship w/ social media. But most likely I will be continuing on Instagram @uropha. A bientôt ! 😎🎶🤙‼️

I am late, but I am going to join in this project. I am learning songs that include Rainbows! I want to include "It's a Wonderful World". Have you recorded this one?

Jenny Selig

I think she's shared it as a standalone and also in a medley with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," in fact! :)
