aloha Patrons!

thanks to everyone who voted for this month's Patron-supported tutorial! you can see in the voting results that Can't Help Falling in Love got the most votes. i liked using the new polling feature, and seeing all your requests. next month i'll include the top upvoted requests in the poll, so your upvotes matter!

CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE CHORD CHART + LIVE LESSON

i already posted the Chord Chart for Can't Help Falling in Love back in February in this post for all $3+ Patrons. you can download the current version now, and if i make updates to it, i'll repost.

the Live Lesson for Can't Help Falling in Love will be this Thursday 4/13 at 4:30pm PDT for the $5+ Patrons. details coming in a separate post. (please remember that all Live events can be watched after the fact at any time using the same link, so you do not have to watch live)

i have taught a quick overview of this song at the end of February's Live Lesson, but in this month's Live Lesson, i'll take more time to work through the song, and i'll also go over the strumming version by 21 Pilots that's popular right now.

LIVE JAMS SCHEDULE

the Beginner Live Jam will be Thursday 4/20 from 4:00-4:45pm PDT for all the $10+ Patrons. this month, i think i'll introduce a very simple reggae strum - in preparation for our Island Reggae SF Uke Jam meetup on Sun 4/23 (I'll livestream the jam on my facebook page)

the Intermediate Live Jam will be Thursday 4/20 from 5:00-5:45pm PDT for all the $20+ Patrons. keeping with the Island Reggae theme, we can try a couple of more advanced reggae strums that use muting and chucking.

details coming in separate posts, along with respective jam packets.

thanks for reading, voting, supporting, and giving your feedback. look forward to seeing some of you online!

xo cynthia.

Dear Cynthia loving community. I think we all agree that no one but no one can do a tutorial as engaging, enthusiastic, and helpful as Cynthia can. But I am wondering about all those many amazing cover videos for which no charts and no lessons are available, Should we as a community help each other out by making and sharing our own charts or tabs (based on Cynthia's videos) to the best of our ability? How do you all feel about this? Cynthia how do you feel? Would you want to support a place for such charts on your patreon site? Or just have it on Youtube perhaps as a link to a pdf file in the comments?

Joshua Green

Just to add, I would in no way want to undermine Cynthia's financial model by publicizing such tabs when they are only intended for higher paying paterons. I'm talking about cover videos that have been out for months but have no charts and no tutorials on the web.

Cynthia Lin

hi joshua! i'd be flattered if you wanted to chart out my songs. (aside from time, there are a lot of legal reasons why i can't just publish all my arrangements - but there's no liability if you do it!) if you have the ability to create charts, go for it, and it'd be great if you could reference my video, or add something like "in the style of Cynthia Lin" are there any particular songs you are excited about? perhaps you could create a thread on the forum and collaborate with other Patrons to work out charts. (check out Richard's post on the community page about joining the external forum) also, if folks are interested, i could share more about how i create the chord charts and arrangement, perhaps break down my process so you can reverse engineer. thanks joshua! and you're welcome to share your version of the charts anywhere you like. if you post on patreon community or forum first, perhaps patrons can try it out and give you feedback before you post on the general internet.

Thanks so much Cynthia! The backstory is that the cover for Just Like Heaven has been driving me nuts, it is just the coolest version I've seen. To my surprise, I found that re-watching the video many times (zeroing in carefully on a few seconds or even less at a time) and some trial and error on my uke gets me pretty close. So, I now have a version of the Intro which I've translated to tabs. It gets harder when you start singing (great voice but it makes it harder to discern the uke for this purpose); even so, I actually think I hear variations on what's in the intro so I think I can get into the verse in the near future. For all you Fans out there, here is a link to what I have so far. Enjoy and please feel free to some of the work for me (like writing the verse in tabs) or to correct what I've done. I think there are a few places I'm close but haven't nailed it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7x87LeDWiIlbjBrbEVMSHdRUnc/view?usp=sharing

And just to add a small piece of overview: The intro is all fingerpicking. Much of the intro consists of plucking the E &A strings together then plucking the C & G stings one after the other. There are no full chords that I can discern (a chord consisitng of 3 or more simultaneous notes); however, where a specific chord shape that I can recognize is held by the left hand, I've added some notation.

Would you please recommend which capo? Also, I use my fingers as Cynthia instruct, but what do you do when your nail breaks and everything sounds muffled? I have trouble using a pick...
