Thank you for the support! You guys and grrls are awesome!

I've mentioned several times that I've never been in the military, and most of what I know about it I learned from movies and TV, especially Stargate SG-1, but even without checking sources or even doing a casual google, I feel confident this is pretty insubordinate. There will be consequences at some point. I still find it entertaining though, which is one of many reasons I don't think I would have done well in the military, had there been a draft at any point during which I might have been a viable candidate for such a thing. That or my squad would be very good at doing laps and I would have been soap-in-a-sock'ed to death by the third day.

Sydney isn't really trying to specifically give Max a hard time. She just has about a hundred off the wall questions queued up in case anyone gives her an opening like this. I had to google the thing about the Second Lady. It is true, even though no one has ever said that on the news ever as far as I can recall.

IMO, that *does* count as “specifically giving Max a hard time”, if she’s deliberately queued them up with the full intent to irritate (since she *knows* that doing this will irritate, and still chooses to do so)

Really, Max, you have two of Arc's most ADHD members on board. You should have known better. (Love Harem's casual outfit; gotta be comfy for space travel! ❤️)

I imagine Archon allows a little more leeway with its supers than your standard military just because of how valuable they are. I also imagine there is a real possibility that Max, while powerful and experienced in the military, might not be exactly what the top brass would consider good with unit discipline. I imagine without her powers she might not have advanced nearly as far in the ranks. Might have reached the point where yeah, she can handle a squad, but put her in charge of more than that and things get too relaxed. That's how I justify the relaxed nature that... Honestly kind of has to exist just for the sake of making an entertaining comic. Although it might be a fun side story sometime to see a general chewing her out about unit discipline and how her people need to maintain better standards. And then suddenly there is a whole inspection thing with rooms checked and a whole lot of "do we really want to know what they find in Dabblers room that goes against regs?"

These are the exact kinds of questions you get when the presenter says "I'm not leaving till I get at least 1 question"... Every time

I think that one's on Max. She clearly know what she's working with.

I'm just sitting here waiting for the inevitable shenanigans ensuing with Sydney trying to hide the cosmic pinballs. :-)

Sydney is pretty much the definition of "Intrusive thoughts"

A spin-off question: Was VP Harris’s husband still the Second Gentleman even though there was not a First Gentleman? I think so, but it seems counterintuitive.

Mike

"Be a Hindjew" behind you?

Inquiring mind wants to know.

My college dorm room was grand central station for all my friends, especially those who lived off campus. This is the sort of greeting they would get on a regular basis. It was a great way to start off room debates like "Free Will vs Determinism: You Choose. We knew you were going to say that."

It's been a bit since Sydney has let loose the "Sydney-ness". And I'm here for it!

Harris's husband was referred to as the Second Gentleman quite often. This was more prominent because of the novelty of having a Nth Gentleman at all, but it's certainly not the first time the VP's spouse has been Second.

Given all those restrictions is it wise to take Sydney in this mission? She’s infamous.

I mean... Hudson from Aliens was like this. Its a trope, and a trope for a reason. "Does this look like my joking face" is an answering line that follows the trope :) Max just forgot to bring a sergeant to wrangle the squad for her! Or if Digit is one, she brought the wrong kind of sergeant. Harem and Halo are more like an E4 mafia than they are anything that will maintain discipline on their own.

Max, you answered the first question. That's what opened the flood gates.

"Hindjew"? Okay, finally, after all these years, I think we have to ask; WTF is wrong with your brain?

*Army Vet Enters Chat* Yeah, that's just pre-brief playful banter. There is a game that we play when we get board, which is often, called "Make It Worse", which is a no holds barred conversation where someone says something like "You're so [insert derogatory word here] that you couldn't get anymore [insert whatever], MOFO." It is now the job of someone else in the room, any size room, which can get huge on a base, to "Make It Worse", I have participated in this, and witnessed it go incredibly, sometimes violently, too far, and it gets laughed off. A truly equal opportunity environment requires it, plus, even if you're a desky, you're life and job can get pretty dark, so coping is coping.

At least Sydney waits until the briefing is over. I've seen some idiotic tangents raised during such meetings. Proof positive some people never listen, just wait for the perfect time to disrupt everybody's day.

In the last panel her orbs are tilting their orbit. Presumably to avoid bonking Max in the face. The orbs may be sentient enough to know that this would have bad effects on their host.
