Thank you for the support! You guys and grrls are awesome!

This is hardly Sydney's fault. The holo-disguisinator on Cora's ship really is more or less like a character selector in a video game. Pick your race, then customize the particulars. There are a lot of hairstyle options across the myriad races in the galaxy. Plenty of races have special customizations, like horns, scale patterns, etc. For the race Sydney picked (Mantellans, it comes up in a couple pages) you have to select "forehead jewel shape and color." Probably clarity, purity, and whatever other things people care about gems. Also, they probably have a better name for that thing than "forehead jewel." I just haven't thought of it yet.

Now, there might have been an info box on the side of the selection UI thing that mentioned that the forehead jewel instills a significant sociological hierarchy among their race. And Sydney might have gotten distracted by all the pretty gems and not paid attention, cause she was busy picking out the coolest/prettiest one. It's also possible that she also noticed that info box after she picked the best one, and went, "Eh. Whatever. What could the Mantellan population of Fracture Station be anyway? I didn't see any the last time I was here, and not just cause DaveB hadn't invented them yet."

That's why she knows the situation is about to... evolve.

So yeah, it's her fault.

Eh, she wasn't left alone to pick. So she's not the only one to blame.

Tie Toter

You have to wonder if Sydney was aware of this little gem...

That Harper Gal

Space Princess Sydney has a nice ring to it!

Michael Obert

Yep, yet another series of wacky events on Space Station Cameo!

sjmcc13

Wasn't Sidney supervised to try and prevent situations like this?

Teksura

There can be a fancy word for forehead gem. But we hear forehead gem because translator reasons translate it to that because we don't have a direct word for it, but that's essentially what it means.

Jared

I believe this would be Frix's fault for allowing that choice. And Sydney's fault for speaking this situation into existence despite knowing better.

You_With_The_Face

Don't tempt fate Syd, fate takes that as a challenge

Mark N

I don't know which is funnier. A dower looking Watcher or a Xenomorph with a cigar in its throat mouth, sunglasses and a My Little Pony lunchbox.

Czarzhan

Wouldn't it be funny if those two were also humans in disguise for whatever reason. Then come to find out the Mantellan population died out years ago but so many people use them as a disguise, even on the Mantellan homeworld, that nobody realizes it.

JC Urza

The large panel makes me think that Mantellans are like feral cats, unnoticed until someone opens a can of cat food.

Andrew Denton

Well, it explains the quality of her bodyguard.

Gelatinous Cube

How very Sydney of her. That is nearly the Sydney-est thing Sydney has done. Other than the tongue pulling, head chewing beatdown in the bank.

Connor B

Would Sydney really choose the gem that would draw the most attention? Especially with Frix helping her choose? Feels like Dave is just making Sydney the joke again for no real reason. I hope she isn't forced to change into an ugly disguise as punishment. She looks cute as that alien

Anton Schleef

I'd have to dig through the strips from when she was making the disguise, but if I'm remembering correctly she actually let Frix pick the final disguise's race, so unless he wasn't present as she customized it shouldn't he have also seen that info box and also have given it a "What are the odds?" pass? Thus, shouldn't he be _at least_ as on the hook for this as Sydney is? Personally, I say more on the hook since, as her boyfriend, he should be perfectly aware of her tendencies and willingness to let the 'ooh pretty' aspect over-ride the 'potential social consequences' aspect when customizing the jewel and he definitely should've checked for such potential problems. After all, that second part is explicitly why Maxima chose to be a clanless, any potential social consequences would be fairly minimal. At least, until she dominates in a fight that, arguably, she shouldn't dominate so easily in that disguise. DaveB seems to have forgotten that there's an appreciable strength requirement for that little stunt with the polearm that most body builders who don't ignore their legs are going to lack. I just didn't call it out then because I didn't expect things to resolve so non-problematically for her in the end.

Hugh Eckert

"Hardly Sydney's fault" -> "Yeah it's her fault". Classic Sydney. ;-)

Geass

From that last panel, it sounded like Sydney, on some level, knew that it could get them in trouble.

Justaguy

I'm assuming it's a "princess-cut" in the races language, not ours. :P

William Elliott

AHH, the "Xenomorph" smoking with the bitey tongue...and carrying an MLP lunch box...thats funny. I really wish someone had come up with a species name or something instead of them just being called a "Xenomorph" [which means "Alien Form...which was a generic term when Gorman used it in ALIENS, and NOT the actual name for those critters]

Tim Malmström

Ummmm, the space badger people just acquired target lock... you should indeed run... prefereably right NOW!!!

Mathew Aaberg

I mean Frix is also at fault here too, yes Sydney is hyper distractible but he should have been paying attention as he was helping and is orders of magnitude more familiar with space things.

Eric Loken

"Uhhhh... it's a fake. and I'm just a cosplayer?" "She's impersonating royalty! Kill her!" "Crap."

eddi_TBH

Attack of The Mole People. Cue the chase scene. "My Cabbages!" or "Ranma no bakkka!" or some glorious combo.

AlpineBob

Groups that have royalty know: don't mess with royalty.

akrasia

See? Short bangs are *always* a mistake. p.s. - How does Syd know there's a need to run? Does she somehow know what a sapphire star princess even is?

Marc Vun Kannon

Those little guys were just everywhere, weren't they? I can easily see Sydney getting dragged down into their tunnels before anyone else can move, and hailed as the long-prophecied leader to bring about the restoration of their race's glory. Or some such. Maybe a pay raise. And then they have to find the real long-lost prophecied leader, who's probably walking around in a disguise herself.

Marc Vun Kannon

Was that Galactus in the back, there? Certainly looked like his helmet., with a touch of Sauron on top.
