Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

"Hey Goose, how did you know those guys were full of weird, crunchy particles, indicating they might be some sort of expendable duplicate?""…" "Oh……… 'Kay."

So yeah, the guys in the brown armor are actually a guy in brown armor, named "The Goon Squad." I felt like that might have been used before for a hench duplicator, (cause it seems kind of obvious) but I couldn't find anything with a quick googling. I also asked Marion Harmon of Wearing the Cape fame, cause I know he's got some duplicators in his novels (and google isn't going to return results about stuff like that unless someone has a comprehensive wikipedia listing novelized super powers) but his duplicators are named Platoon and Flash Mob.

Honestly, the knife to the back of the knee would probably be more painful, right? Sure, six bayonets (AKA Bowie knives) through the liver would hurt a lot, but not for very long, especially what happens next.

Unlike Harem, he can tell you what it's like when one of his dupes dies. Or maybe not? We see them die here, or just... cease functioning, but the full scope of his capabilities haven't been explored yet. Those of you complaining that the guys who got harpooned on Digit's page didn't leave any blood splatter, now you know why. As for Digit (and definitely Goose) being psychopaths... I mean... that's probably valid?

Also, why was Goose just hanging out in the armory at 4 am? Probably over-sharpening the knives until they're ground down to the size of mini-golf pencils.

Before anyone goes and throws up some sweet Princess Bride quotes, remember that Fezzik was on the Brute Squad, not the Goon Squad. It's possible that Goon Squad may or may not have a brother with a power set making it likely that he would call himself Brute Squad. We'll have to wait and see on that one.

Gasp. the attackers are bubble golems!

Justaguy

Goonies never say die. They just expire. A lot.

Brandon Wright

I don’t know why, but I’m imagining goon squad being voiced by Church from red vs blue.

Matt Parkent

Fallout 76 taught me that bayonets on a minigun IS a viable strategy.

Andrew J. Walker

Is it wrong that I'm always unreasonably happy when Goose gets some screen time?

Enigma42

wait which one of them is a hearth witch?

Tickolas

Haha, there's a series of comic novellas about the "Goon Squad", a quite dysfunctional superhero team based in Manchester. It's pretty damn good, check it out if you get the chance 😁

Gavin Dryden

I think Evil Inc had a duplicator called Goon back in the day.

Aaron Mauthe

Now that’s some gratuitous violence! Well done!

Mike

Who's the hearth witch? Is she that goth girl that was there when they were first interviewing Sydney?

Graeme Thorburn

Poor Stalwart, that'll be something for therapy I guess.

Town Crier

Husky voice: "Groovy, baby."

William D. Arand has a character in his books (Andrea in Super Sales on Super Heroes) with similar duplicating powers. The interesting part of her character is that she can absorb fallen duplicates and reclaim their memories. She can then choose which memories to send her next duplicate out with. Rather than live with the horror of dying countless times, she occasionally spins up a "death clone" and sends it off to fight in high risk missions. She's a bubbly, goofy character, but her death clones are decidedly...not.

Warren Woodard

Good Squad, is very similar to the name Goon Swarm from EVE Online fame. I wouldn't be surprised if they also have a Good Squad in one or more MMOs. They are based out of the Something Awful message boards, but not a comic book character.

infernalperson

I played a duplicator in a Mutants and Masterminds game named Backup, he was the office staff for the team's base when they weren't out fighting crime :D

Stephen Gilberg

Wait, so Goon Squad has named each of his selves, and one is Ted?

Foradain

I think David Bowie's estate would have the copyright, as A-Z Lyrics says he wrote the song: Fashion! *We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town! Beep Beep!* The man was a genius. R.I.P.

LucasTheLost

It seems like there's some form of super communication between the goons and the original, but the clones all just talk to each other. I wonder if Original is getting sensory data in real time or if it's just what the goons were feeling when they died?

Tannerbot

I see that goose came from the Chesty Puller school, who, when he saw a flamethrower, asked "where do you put the bayonet?

James Browning

Presumably Marion Harmon had an off-page duplicator 'Redux'. I think "Brute Squad" could be the sibling of "Goon Squad" with meta-acromegaly. (sp?)

Doug Northcote

Fezzik "I'm on the Brute Squad." Miracle Max: "You are the brute squad!" Loved today installment. Damn it, still making me look forward to Monday morning for this if nothing else. :)

As far as I know so long as you avoid directly copying someone else's super hero character you aren't violating any copyright laws. Thus, even if someone else has a duplicator named Goon Squad, who operates in a similar manner, so long as your Goon Squad uses different outfits, or tactics, or even has different rules for taking jobs it isn't a technical copyright violation. Yes, some large publishers like Marvel an D.C. will go after someone making a character that is too similar to Batman or Superman or Wolverine or Spiderman, but most of the time those lawsuits never see a court room, and even when they do unless it is exceedingly difficult to tell the original apart from the copy the courts don't decide in the favor of the big publisher, despite them having lots of expensive lawyers. Basically, so long as you don't have a blatant copy of someone else's character, especially with just how limited the primary possibilities for both power sets and names get, you're not likely to get in any trouble, and even then, so long as you can make some minor, but noticeable, changes to differentiate your character you can either get the other guy to back off or for the courts to side with you in the end. Of course, this just reminded me of a 'cross-over' drawing I'd love to see. Namely, a specific superhero named Arsenal wearing a long red coat (but not a true trench coat) and white gloves holding a State Alchemist's watch their hand. If you don't get the references...................well let me know and I'll tell you what to look up so you can be just a touch more cultured.

Great, now the place is full of Orbeez. Oh no, the sprinklers are coming on, they’re expanding!

eddi_TBH

Goon Squad is now on my "Favorites" list. I hope he is smart enough to split this bad scene before it backwashes on him. Quick question. Is that actually Goon Squad? Or is he smart enough to be in a fast car at the maximum range of his powers?

Andrew Park

Hey, um, I just learned this a few months ago so no accusation, but 'maroon' as a way to say fool is a particularly nasty slur referring to black slaves who ran away and lived in the wilderness with 'red' natives

Jay

I love Goon Squad. Please tell me he only drinks Boxed Wine. I would love for that to be thrown in at some point. But Dave. One of these days I hope one day you will realize its whats on the *inside* that counts. And put some stomach churning gore on a page, even if its not fit for this specific comic.

Tim Nutting

So does Goon Squad duplicate the hardware or just the biologicals? Cuz that's a whole lot of body armor suits and Kris Vectors... I would think the former but I'm not seeing the hardware bubble out.
