Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

So finally we get to the page I decided to delay until after showing Maxima returning to base. You can see why I delayed it, as I'm depicting evening in Galytn now, so it would have looked like Maxima's return trip took a lot longer than it actually did. Galytn is 7 hours ahead of Archon HQ, so Sydney and crew haven't missed out on the data recovery operation, it just looks like they've been hanging out for a while. They've been hard at work in the interval, however. Most of the focus was on extinguishing all the fires at the edges of Sydney's little art project, but some of the helicopters that attacked with Darude pushed on past the factory and struck at infrastructure further in. Given Galytn's population of supers, they didn't make it very far, but still managed to leave quite a bit to cleanup afterward.

Yes, the sunset is super orange because of the fires - which are largely out, but the air is still smokey.

I guess Vale is feeling sassy, as she usually just looms menacingly and doesn't usually score off the boss like that. Or maybe it's a routine the two of them have to "humanize leadership." Hard to tell with them.

I just realized I drew Sydney way too short in the middle two panels. Dabbler is 5'10", so the top of Sydney's head should be about lip-high to Dabbler? Oh well. I guess Sydney's sitting on something that shaves a few inches off her height. I was going to say one of those cement highway divider things (which I just learned is called a Jersey Barrier or a Jersey Wall) are like 32" tall... Hmm. I think if she was sitting on one of those it might actually make her slightly taller. Bags of cement then. Doesn't really matter. She's been using the orbs non-stop for hours so she's allowed to be a little run down.

Finally he is officially recognised as villain!

Whoriar

Dabler is wearing heels/platforms and Sydney is hunkered down in a demure and shy way. There, fixed the height difference.

I just love those little interactions between Sydney and Deus. They play so well off of each other.

Mike

Sergeant Cassidy? Is that Anvil? I know her first name is Kenya, don't believe I've ever heard her last name. Or is that just some random ARC person?

I really do love Deus. Competent, intelligent, and sympathetic characters make the best antagonists because you really can't classify them as villains. My immediate assumption with Vale chiming in like that is an act, yes, but we as the audience have privileged information about the two and their dynamic - it would probably be convincing to anyone actually in the plot, and it's an excellent way to humanize him. The interaction with Sydney does the same thing for us as readers, which is clever as well - though if he really wants to secure relations with her, throwing some kind of title on the award the way you have, say, Sir Patrick Stewart or Dame Helen Mirren, would probably be even more effective. Sydney would go nuts for that sort of thing.

Granite

Loved it!

Dan Jones

"We knew there would be responses to the urgency which we feel the need to improve..." Was that supposed to make sense, or was Deus supposed to sound like a babbling idiot?

D.A. Lamont

He may prefer the title "Evil Genius." 😏😈

JasonAW3

Well, if you HAVE to have an Arch Friendemy, best to have one you understand, and understands you!

Jack Ponder

Their faces at the end are too good. Or in Deus' case, too evil.

Michael Obert

Poor Sydney; first Kenya's awesome boobage and now this. Knowing her awkwardness, I bet the last thing she wants to do while giving a speech is picture everyone assembled in their underwear.

Marc Vun Kannon

He's very much like Doctor Doom, but with better public relations. His only plans for conquest seem to mostly involve Maxima.

Marc Vun Kannon

Actually Dabbler seems to be unusually tall. Sydney and Anvil seem to be correct in relation to each other in panels 3 & 4. Anvil is a bit short in panel 1. Her boobs are over Sydney's head in the other panels, but here they seem to be on the same level.

Marc Vun Kannon

Actually, Deus may come to regret his little act of villainy. Giving a nervous Sydney a microphone and an audience may not work out so well.

Justaguy

Let's just go with "Sydney isn't sure how her disk is being received, and she's tired and sore and is slumping." :) That and Dabbler is probably wearing high heels.

Greg Morrow

First: Vale humanizing Deus like that is 100% planned. Second: I really like the medal and ribbon design, well done. Third: Dabbler's construction outfit is magnificent, deserving an extended flashback to what she was doing while wearing it.

I love their interactions. Both understand what it takes to be a SUPER villain. Presentation!

Enigma42

uh is the obsidian glowing?

Town Crier

Hmm. I am sensing a possible future love-interest between Sydney and Deus...

Steve M

Isn’t Kenya a 1st LT not a Sgt?

martin leske

technically... they still have a lot of post-sand just not sand sand... like sand products but not the raw unadultered... you get what i mean

GameGod210

That "You. Get. Me." along with his face made me laugh so hard this morning. Thank you for that xD

Nechochwen

What is with Dabbler having Anvil's face.

Aaron Mauthe

That is a fantastic grinch face Deus has there at the end.

Fogel

Something I just thought about: Deus knew his demon army would provoke an attack like this. He also had a standing invite for Maxima to visit, and he must have known that unleashing that demon army would provoke Maxima to cash in that invite. So in short, Deus manipulated events to ensure that Maxima and co would be present at the time of the attack. Sneaky sneaky

eddi_TBH

Deus and Halo need a shared adventure. I think he's the only other person we have seen who get's the whole superhero trope. And cheers for Lex Luthor, Dr. Doom and Ming the Merciless.

Cleodora Silvestri

What is written in the tiny panel where Sidney is floating to the stage? It's too small to read and too pixelated to zoom in.

Alex

Hi. Thank you. How you all doing? *Teppid clapping*

Not sure if you're aware of this, but here goes: Once you click on the picture you can also use your mouse wheel to zoom in. A command like that isn't obvious & I don't remember seeing any instructions for commands here, so it took me some experimentation to find out.
