Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

And let's check in with the happenings back in the states. Looks like things are eating up! I'll show myself out.

Tetsuo Theme.Mp3 for those of you weirdos who don't read comics and novels with a slew of dramatic music queued up on your soundboard.

Chimyriad isn't in the Who's Who because we haven't seen her face yet. That's the problem with shapeshifters. Any photo ID of her would be seriously sus anyway.

I think John Carpenter's The Thing is pretty much the best monster movie ever made. I know, you're like "But what about Alien?" Alien is, IMO, one of the best horror movies ever made. I mean it's a horror movie featuring a monster, but The Thing isn't really a horror movie, so I draw that distinction between them. But you're like "But what about [insert your favorite genre of scary movie here]?" No, because slasher movies aren't scary, they're about boobs and gore. Demonic possession films are all dumb because they're like... I don't know. Being scared of radiation poisoning from Microwaves. It's not a thing. But people my age all remember those warning signs businesses had to put up by their breakrooms warning of a microwave potentially being in operation, right? What was that about? Maybe early microwaves had shitty shielding and people with archaic pacemakers had to legitimately be afraid of them, but my impression is that it was a new technology and the stupid masses were experiencing the usual bout of unjustified technophobia while everyone with working brains rolled their eyes and patted the dumb-dumbs on the head in a reassuring and definitely not patronizing manner.

What was I talking about? Oh, right demonic possession. It's mental illness misdiagnosed by the ignorant and pious, and supposedly scary movies about it just aren't. Also movies/shows about haunted houses/ghosts. The soundtrack is doing a lot of heavy lifting in those. Jump scares are 90% music sting.

Anyway... I love The Thing and Lovecraftian body horror type stuff. If I hadn't spent my youth drawing my own superheroes and fantasy art, I could have definitely gone down the path of macabre monster art. I imagine I'd be spending a lot of time in ZBrush creating things with tentacles and too many teeth. So I got to practice it a little here. It was fun, but I still like drawing sexy superheroines. Maybe my next project will be Chesty McFadden and the Cthulhu Kid, where Chesty is like a sexy female Hellboy type action detective who teams up with a Shoggoth to, uh... I dunno, save the world from something worse than Cthulhoids?

Nope, don't like that...

Graeme Thorburn

I like that Goose is waiting, still with 'The Auger'.

Slaygor

This is why you should always be nice to people. You never know when someone is in fact a shapeshifter. Things get worse if said shapeshifter is NOT limited to certain forms, as it appears this one is not.

Michael Obert

So many mouths . . . so many teeth . . . shudder. As long as there's no vagina dentata, I think we're still good.

Andrew J. Walker

Those warning signs about microwaves coincided with the beginning of cellphone usage, which revealed that the microwaves were terribly shielded, affecting electronics of all sorts, including, yes, pacemakers

Greg Morrow

Microwaves were much earlier than cellphones, and yes, they were terribly shielded (at a radio telescope site, the microwave in the break room kept being picked up by the telescope). You don't need a lot of incidents to issue a warning -- similar to today's "don't enter the MRI room with your piercings in or they will be out". Anyway, the best monster movie is Tremors.

Ray

Sexy woman with a pet Shoggoth? Monster Hunter International already did that.

William Elliott

Yah, having someone go all John Carpenter's Thing/Mimic on you would be pretty freaky...

Kuratenshi

Now I'm curious if Dave has played "Carrion" by Devolver Digital

Otoger

Scorn is good in that regard

Aaron Mauthe

I’m sorry, did you just talk about “boobs and gore” in a derogatory fashion? Dabbler would be ashamed of you Dave.

PucThePlayful

I'd read Chesty McFadden and the Cthulhu Kid! Might workshop the title a little though, lol.

Martin Drkoš

Get a move on, team, or you'll be too late to save the bad guys. Also, I guess Max needs armor for the same reason she needs a gun.

Bharda Sullivan

The mantis-hooks on the end of the one tendril are a lovely touch!

Stephen Gilberg

I give "The Thing" a 10 out of 10, and I rarely do that for movies.

Anton Schleef

I'm not much for horror movies myself, but that's mostly because most of them I've watched are so dull they put me to sleep. That doesn't mean I haven't seen a few decent horror movies, and a couple of good ones, but they were all Japanese ones that tended more towards psychological horror than the trash that you typically see made in the States.

Fogel

I wonder how often Chimyriad practices her Eldritch Body Horror routine in the mirror.

Tim Malmström

Oh, that's right, *now* I remember! Shapeshifters can be TERRIFYING!!!

Jacob R. Chastain

If you like body horror you may want to check out "Crimes of the Future" that came out earlier this year

MaxBigfoot

I'm really, really hoping that Chimyriad's base form isn't something like that. But I guess it would give Vale another eldritch horror to chat with occasionally.

Dan Curtis

which of his mouths is speaking in the last panel?

eddi_TBH

Can she do slime? You can't be a bona fide Eldrich Terror if you don't do slime. Slugs probably squicked HPL out totally.

eddi_TBH

Worse than Cthulhu? Any terrorist group makes that low bar. Big C is just going to erase all of us in a matter of hours at most. Terrorists are much less egalitarian.

Absentia

Eldritch Mommy? Sorry, Eldritch Mommy? Sorry, Eldritch Mommy? Sorry, El-

D.A. Lamont

I know you said The Thing, but given the drawn aspect of Chimyriad, I went straight to Hitoshi Iwaaki's Parasyte. 🤣😱💀
