Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

To clarify from the prior page, Max isn't necessarily on board with trying to loot Galytn technology from under Deus's nose. But she's in the room with her boss's boss and there are already plans in existence, so she's going along with it in the moment. After all, Briggs said to "devise plans" not necessarily to execute them. You can see here that she's gently trying to steer away from that course of action, but I don't think there's anyone who makes it to her rank, especially someone like her who has more than the usual amount of top secret clearance, who doesn't understand that the U.S. is involved in a lot of shady shit. Sure, the average Air Force Major (her rank before getting the bump to Archon) isn't getting read in on all the underhanded stuff the CIA gets up to, but a person would have to be especially ignorant not to recognize that the U.S. sometimes protects its interests in ways that are morally questionable. Also downright reprehensible. And sure, most every government has skeletons in their closet, if not mass-unmarked graves full of them. Max is taking the gentle pressure on the rudder approach here, because telling the guy three ranks above you to take a hike is generally not the most productive strategy.

America being put in the position of being at a significant technological disadvantage would cause a considerable reaction, IMO. Combining that with Deus marching an army of literal demons onto the field and I think there would be a lot of movement behind the scenes, and a lot of pulpit pounding rhetoric. The only reason Deus's demon army wouldn't be front and center 24/7 on every news station would be if something else dramatic happened. If there's anything the last few years have taught us, it's that "the public" has crippling ADD. Something bad happens and everyone is outraged, then something else bad happens and everyone forgets about the previous thing immediately to focus on the new thing. In the less than 6 months, the Grrl-verse populace has had proof of superpowers, proof of aliens, proof of humans living in space, aliens visiting NY, aliens landing in Africa, proof of demons, and several public superpower and/or alien battles. At this point, a lot of people would be going "You know what, I'm going back to my woodturning facebook group/knitting circle/book club and/or r/InstantBarbarians.

To be fair, there would also be a lot of people panicking and spiraling. So, business as usual.

I agree there's no accounting for taste, I mean check out that chin *swoon*

I'd go on a date with deus too, if I was the general.. there's no rule that you have to put out on the first date. It's a bit shortsighted of the others to assume such It's a romantic date. (Although that's pretty much the common referral when talking about "a date") Heck! Hanging out with a buff, smart, rich guy gotta involve doing fancy stuff. Maybe you can even convince him to have an entire "ferris bueller's day off". That's gotta be cool.

Second panel, I think the second speech bubble shouldn't be connected to Maxima's, maybe?

Harald Snjórprestur

Question…. Is your hard charging Army general Infantry or some other non-grunt type?

Aclys

That's fair reasoning on explaining what Max is doing here and that she's not actually 100% on board with being state sponsored thugs. Still one of those things she's uniquely empowered to stand against, though again yes I do see the point of having her try to do it within the system rather than just going injustice superman on them. Also hey, at least the general has a sense of humor. When they dont that's always a red flag. I will still say, the sheer fact that these knuckle-dusters would prefer to steal the technology rather than simply pay for it is... Well it sure makes me root for Deus, at least he only seems to steal stuff noone would sell to him at a remotely reasonable price, if at all.

"I must respectfully request you do not finish that thought!" Yeeeeah, that's the sort of thing officers used to say when the situation was one sentence away from somebody having to go send for pistols and witnesses.

"Devising plans" is the first step in being able to show "all plans are doomed to failure, so just let us do this the legal way"

Michael Obert

"Remember, if he gives you a slap on the ass on a first date, it means he likes you. We need that shield tech, sweet cheeks." And he was never heard from again. . . . thankfully Max respects the chain of command.

Arc Frisch

You can tell it's fiction by the amount of sanity and good sense present in the room. Though I'm sure it doesn't hurt that Max could reduce the entire room and it's contents to ash if sufficiently motivated...

Christopher Upton

As a wood turner and a member of a wood turning group on fb, I represent your depiction of such people!

Editing note; panel three appears to have a mix-up in the speech bubbles. The top bubble on the right sounds like one of the generals, but is connected to Max's chain of speech.

Seth Swanson

I'ma call him General Mustache.

Daniel Jones

Love the dialog. Nicely done.

Gen. Briggs/Deus Monthly Vote/Patreon Incentive when? Besides, Deus generally struck me as a pansexual. I don't see him being with eldritch horrors from beyond the abyss beyond keen of identity, but then turn around and draw the line at a dude of his own species.

Tristan N Milner

Doesn't that statement mean he can be easily compromised? Seems like a massive security risk for ARC.

-- Briggs said to "devise plans" not necessarily to execute them. That's part of the military's job, come up with all sorts of plans, even ones that are distasteful. As an example it has been reported multiple times that towards the end of WW2 both the Western Allies and the Soviets came up with plans for WW3 to start immediately after the conclusion of WW2. Patton reportedly very much wanted to go after the Soviets immediately, and the Soviets redeployed forces to face the Allies. Neither side trusted the other; they were co-belligerents against a pressing threat, not allies (cooperation between the sides was fairly poor, and they were very reluctant to share intel). Churchill was reported to have told FDR or Truman (can't recall which offhand) that when they shake hands with the Soviets, they do it as far east as possible - history shows that he had a point. Obviously they never pulled the trigger on that one. For their part the Soviets were reaching exhaustion, having expended so many lives in the war (their tactics haven't changed since then) that they were getting low on manpower (between the sheer loss of life and the resulting massive reduction in the post war baby boom, they have never recovered from that, and it is affecting them today) and their economy was a mess, having received considerable aid from the west (the aid totalled 11.3 billion dollars in 1945, or roughly $190 billion in 2023 currency, consisting of military hardware, tractors, food, petroleum products, machine tools, tires, cotton, army boots, etc.) that was no longer coming in. And the West supposedly called it "Operation Unthinkable", they didn't think they would do any better against the Russians than the Germans did, plus still had Japan to deal with. It has been suggested that the nuclear bombing of Japan had as much to do with warning the Soviets of their capabilities as it did with convincing Japan to surrender. So yes, be prepared for every eventuality, but don't necessarily do it.

Yeah... that scientist guy is definitely sporting a third eye. No as big as Deus', but present.

The whole "public ADD" thing is what China uses to keep their shenanigans under wraps. Whenever they get exposed for something bad, N. Korea suddenly does something to take the attention away. At least that's how it used to be before China owned half the media outlets in America. Now they just divert to some other nonsense.

Kaelzaad (Grizz)

You know... That last panel. The general -almost- seems disappointed. XD
