Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

Maxima is good at taking hits, but is terrible at getting hit on. You can tell she's actively dreading it in that first panel.

The first and third guy don't really deserve any consideration, IMO, but the second guy? I don't know, he wasn't being actively trite or disrespectful... I think? I personally have zero experience as the hitter, and very little as the hittee, so I may not be the best judge of that sort of thing. However, immediately getting defensive about her height when guys can be downright brittle about such things shows that Max still has her deflector fields at full power. As mentioned previously, she has no experience doing this as a "normal" woman, but even without her weird skin and hair, it's still obvious Max isn't a normal woman.

At least the third guy looks like he might be a bit taller than her? I can say Max isn't necessarily one of those women who's all, "You must be at least 6 feet tall to ride this ride," but I can't say exactly what she does look for in a guy because she probably hasn't quite figured that out herself. That's not to say she's never slept with anyone, she has, but the few guys she's been with tend to be competent, honorable, and quietly confident. Any hint of narcissism outside of jokey self-aggrandizement is as repellent to her as Axe Body spray, which is one reason  (of several) Deus has so much trouble holding her interest.

On a side note, I would be a terrible woman. I'm told that by and large, women are attracted to confident guys, but I have a great deal of difficulty distinguishing between confidence and narcissism/douchiness. I think it's just a matter of degrees, really, but narcissism is one of my least favorite attributes in people, so my threshold  between confidence/overconfidence is probably several standard deviations lower than usual. I guess if I was a woman, I'd have to hope I was into guys that when you say, "Omigosh, you're so good at X," they get all goofy and bashful, cause if they came back with "Baby, I'm the fucking best at X." I'd have to throw a red card.

Then they'd be all "No, really, I'm Shaun White, I have multiple Gold Medals in snowboarding!" and I'd be all "I said good day, sir!" And his friends would be like, "How'd it go?" and he'd be all "I don't think she believed me. I guess I could go and get my gold to show her, but that seems like an insane amount of work to impress some girl who's tucked into the corner reading on her Kindle instead of being the least bit extroverted at this huge crazy party where someone like multiple Gold Medalist Shaun White would attend, especially when there's like twenty women here who are throwing themselves at me." And his friends would be all, "You're going to go get your medals, aren't you?" And Sean White's all, "Well it fucking bothers me!" Then he'd show up with his medals, and I'd immediately be super suspicious, like "Why are you trying so hard to impress me? Aren't you famous? Did you make a bet with your friends that you could pull the nerd girl in the corner? Fine, I'll pretend to go on a date with you, but I get half your winnings."

Apparently I would be a suspicious, cynical and mercenary nerdy introvert as a woman. Anyway, Max is bad at guys! Let's watch.

Meanwhile Dabbler & Sydney are taking bets on how long the men would survive a punch from Max. Over/under ½ second.

One of my favorite things working in a bar was watching crash and burns. Max would be so entertaining to bartend and serve but I’d also feel so sorry for. I mean I feel sorry for her now because between the frustration of a high tolerance making self-medication difficult, the mundanity of normie transportation, and these jokers, it seems going out for Maxima is just not in the cards unless it’s with someone like Deus… yeah there are drawbacks lol

A lot of people are really bad at identifying the difference between confidence and narcissism, and it's super annoying. Like, sometimes it feels like you just aren't allowed to have a healthy ego. It doesn't help that it's almost impossible to express confidence in your intelligence without sounding like a douche, like, yes it is literally, objectively true that I am a genius by the technical definition (an IQ more than 2 standard deviations above average) but if I say that or in anyway express confidence in my intelligence I get eyerolls at the absolute best, people actively putting me down for having the gall to know what I'm good at and not be embarrassed to admit it at worst. It doesn't help that the other things I'm good at would be weird to prove so it just sounds like unfounded bragging, like yeah I'm really good at lightest touch foam fighting, but outside of fellow LARPers, who's gonna actually fight me to prove it?

Cat on Crack

2. guy isn't that bad. Managed to get a little smirk out of her. + for the dwarf part, max was a bit of a nerd. And he isn't that much smaller than her. He sure is a safe bet to have at least some nice conversation.

Simon Magid

I know that dating can be hit or miss, but this seems more like miss and miss.

Michael Obert

Little tip, boys, when the woman orders, and consumes, rocket fuel with ease, maybe sit back and wait for your moment.

Torabi

If someone feels the need to let everyone know how awesome they are, that's insecurity, not confidence. A confident person lets their actions speak for themselves.

Anton Schleef

I prefer to ask the nerdy girl what she's reading, and if it's the type of book I'd be interested in maybe discuss other books we've read. Yeah, I suck at hitting on women myself. Of course, I'd have to actually go out to some place where I might actually meet women to get any practice, and I'm not that extroverted.

Mike

I don't know, I kind of respect the third guy. What he said was inappropriate, but he said it in as nice a way as possible, fully knowing it would get him nowhere. He saw someone so hot he felt it needed to be said. And then he said the last line and ruined it. I totally agree with him tho.

Aclys

I mean... she came Alone to a bar, as an incredibly attractive woman. If she did not want to get approached and/or hit on that was probably not the place to seek out without having someone with her. And I am not saying that women should not be able to go to bars and be left alone by slobs trying to get into their pants etc, just that that's usually the kind of place people go to, alone, if they are looking to be approached and/or meet new people.

Andrew Denton

There is a lot of overlap between you and Sydney, isn't there.

Greg Morrow

I want to compliment that first panel. It's really well composed and executed. The four men are each individually posed with different appearances and expressive body language. And Max in the center has some less naturalistic features, but that serves to express her role in the panel as the irritated everywoman who is always the target of men on the prowl.

Matthew Cook

Isn’t Max supposed to have a nice, chewable, dark beer by now? 😉

Cha11engerD

Max must really want that beer, cause I believe she started regretting going out the moment she stepped into the elevator.

Stephen Gilberg

I would never go looking for love (or sex) in a bar. That is not where you find people at their smartest.

William Elliott

I have to admit, the Dwarf one was at least creative, and endearingly nerdy as opposed to total cringe

TrixieTurner

Lol I love how much of a try hard edgelord maxima seems to be so much of the time. I mean it makes sense, at the end of the day she is a super cop. Well I guess if someone's hot enough you can overlook anything.

Erin Palette

I like #2. Yes, he's bad at flirting, but that was a sincere nerdy compliment, and being a nerd the bad flirting is understandable. And he's the only one NOT sweating at her height... he might even be into that.

Philip Brown

The last guy reminds me of Rand, the dad from Inside Job. Except.. younger, I guess?

Swedish Chef

I can't help but whistle "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" soundtrack while reading the first 3 panels

Thorin Schmidt

I dunno... given Max's past D&D experience, the guy talking about dwarves would have at least been interesting enough not to immediately shoot him down. It certainly wasn't a sexist remark.

Aaron Mauthe

Second guy definitely could close that deal. He’s nerdy, at least attempts to be funny, and while not overly confident, is at least expressing interest without being obnoxious.

Eric Loken

"I have a great deal of difficulty distinguishing between confidence and narcissism/douchiness" A friend of mine used to be in the USN, he said he met some honest to God Navy SEALs in his time, and he said that ones he met were the most unassuming guys he'd ever met. And it makes sense, they KNOW they are the best, and they don't have to prove shit to anyone (their bosses know too, not because they said they are good, but because they've got the training, and they have the success record to prove it). And then there is this guy: https://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/tenant/amp/entityid/AA11KKhO.img?w=800&h=415&q=60&m=2&f=jpg Mike Irving. Delta Force. Guy looks like he should be fixing a radio (he's actually an EDO specialist, so not far off... except most guys who work on radios don't run the risk of being blown to pieces at any second). Look at his fruit salad and awards. This guy is a (literally) certified bad ass. I doubt he goes around bragging about it, because why? He doesn't have shit he needs to prove to you. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Vining_(soldier) The article misses the four ribbons on his right lapel, as well as the award there. This is the Quiet Confidence that Dave talked about. People who are good at what they do, are confident in their abilities, but aren't show offs or braggarts. This is not very common. In my experience, most 'confidence' is actually arrogance, and usually covers significant insecurity. Even if they are as good as they think they are (which is rare), that they feel they need to brag about it is a bad thing. Remember a 'Con Man' is a 'Confidence Man'. They act all confident, that what they are telling you is true, and foolish people believe them, to their ruin. And of course there is the Mediocre White Man problem (technically the person can be any race, and even occasionally it is found with women, although it is relatively rare, but in North America it is very probably going to be a white guy). If unfamiliar, the Mediocre White Man is a well established situation that has existed throughout history. A mediocre - or less - person acts all confident "I'm the smartest most capable person around!" and a bunch of people believe him (there has both been historical examples and psychological tests - Donald Trump is the poster boy for the Mediocre White Man). Problem is that the MWM is neither smart nor capable, they just say they are, and a bunch of foolish people believed him. In practise he is not a team player, he is not a leader, he takes credit he doesn't deserve and makes sure others take blame for everything. Invariably they do more harm than good, but many MANY Mediocre White Men have ended up in positions of power simply by conning people into believing that they should listen to him.

Mark Temple

goofy and bashful has gotten me a lot of female attention actually. guess some go for guys who don't come across as a threat and don't immediately try to get tin their pants. sadly i have generally only recognized their attentions weeks or months after the fact, because i'm terrible at recognizing social cues and socially awkward as heck.

Deltarno

Honestly, Max's best chance for a good time tonight is to see if there's a group playing D&D in the corner and see if they have room for one more. Anything else will just be a conga line of drunks.

Arnim Sommer

I'd offer to sit with her being ignored...
