Hey! So here's a new thing. Instead of releasing the "full tries" after the episodes have released, I've decided to try out sharing full extended cuts which is essentially everything Elliot deems remotely interesting before he starts really cutting things down for the final episode. So here is a feature length episode of TryHards!

We'll release the final "early access" cut when the editing is done. You'll probably notice all the ways we change the narrative or film extra stuff to make for a more interesting video too.

Either way, enjoy!

TryHards Ep5 - Patreon Exclusive Extended Cut

We're changing how we're doing the extra cuttent now by showing you a much larger rough cut of the episode earlier and then showing you the final cut 24 hours before release for all those interested in how it all gets cut down for release! Have fun x

SaneTrashed

Awesome!I love seeing editing at work

Kathryn

About an hour in, but there are some parts that the sound goes. It happened about 4 times just so you are aware

Nate Harman

I LOST THE GAME?? Fuck man

I like having the extended raw footage - I prefer the end product naturally, but seeing the whole of the try without snappy editing [great job so far Elliott!] feels more intimate.

Oh, and thank you for spelling my name right in the credits!

Alright, this is amazing. Fine ideas all round, but "depression" is an absolute banger of a game, I would honestly buy that. As a few people mentioned before, there are a couple of problems with the sound in the first hour, the most noticeable one at ~43:40, maybe a few seconds earlier. Unfortunately, I didn't think to write down the timestamps for all of them. Elliot, I don't envy your job of cutting this down to 20-30 minutes, good luck buddy.

Tara Kay

Not to be down on Elliot's effort more than he was down on himself, but I think the diagram at 20:59 seems to show that most of the matchups would be "nothing happens" from the get-go without needing to discover it during the playtest. :D

I really enjoyed this ep! Great idea to make your own games! Also, I really felt for Elliot. I've had that happen to me and it's a very unpleasant feeling. Like, knowing that you messed something up, regardless of how minor, and feeling that deep inside and it just not helping when others say you did a good job. Not pleasant. Hope you're feeling a bit better, Elliot! You're a good egg! You're all good eggs and ya made a good games!

This was a fun thing to see. Fun games as well. Will the cards be available to browse through at some point? So many flairs we didn't get to see here

Oldendorf

Hmm, so playing a board game feel like end of the world. That my life..

VoiceOS

so, seeing as Tom spent a lot of work on those cards, why not use them for something else? this may be a bad idea, but you could turn them into little infomercials to normalize talking about depression. you have easily digestible information, verified by a mental health expert, a reference image and a balanced selection of positive and negative sides. You could now take 3 positive and 3 negative cards and alternate between each (start with a negative and end with a positive thing), animate the situation described as a looping asdf cartoon to stay on brand, add voiceover and you'd have a video. again, you should check with actual experts to see if it would be a good idea first, but that way you'd normalise talking about it, have easily understandable information, could potentially invite people for a guest voiceover to promote it and have a regular upload time/video length to please the algorithm. All in all, this was probably the episode I enjoyed the most up to now

Rolan Fox

i want to buy depression and play it with my psychologist

venomcake17

i really like the long extended version of this, just kinda cool

Def think this extended cut works better. Still allows for the narrative of the video with all that behind the scene goodies. Also removes (I assume) footage that wasn’t really interesting. Rather than just all the raw footage.

Man, I would love to see the "wide grandad" clip in the public video
