While visiting my parents for the New Year, my dad saw our new drawing tablet and insisted I spend New Year's Day drawing a card for him to send to his friends in Japan.

After many rounds of his art direction-- (Just draw a horse! Any kind of horse will do! Wait no, make my cat riding it! Wait no, make my cat holding a banner! Wait no, you have to make the banner say 明けまして御目出度う御座います! Use the correct kanji don't write it phonetically etc etc etc) --we came to a compromise.

I don't believe I talked about it much, but both of my parents' cats (Mika and Gonta) passed away a few years ago. You might remember them from the old autobio Johnny Wander comics:

After a few months of loudly complaining, my dad convinced my mom to let him get a new cat, Ally (pronounced Allie, from her shelter name 'Allosaurus.') She is singularly attached to my dad and couldn't care less about anyone else.

Anyway, Ananth and I have now returned from New Years and are back to working on 10,000 things, unfortunately many of those things are tax preparation. :,)

Unrelated to everything else!!! I may delete most (or all?) of my twitter archive very soon. (The site recently updated their TOS to make it impossible to opt out of training data. Not to mention everything else going on over there). If there was anything you wanted to save, now is the time to grab it! Otherwise, I think most of my recent art is still mirrored on my tumblr!

Regardless, happy 2026! I'm hoping you all had a relaxing holiday! 🌅🎆

I imagine both parents and kids do that "draw this - no, like this! But add this!" thing

Damn... guess it HAS been 15 years hasn't it? But meanwhile, the expressions of the cat and horse both are pretty great 😏
