Recently I've heard a few questions about the "end game" of music production so I thought I would make a tutorial about it! There are several different ways to approach this and I know many of you are at this point now where you want to finish tracks and get better, but might get stuck pushing forward towards that final mix.

In this tutorial, I use one of my recent track releases as a template to help guide you through some of the techniques that I used to get to the end result. Hopefully some of these will help you and give you confidence that you can reach the level you want to reach! It just takes time, and attention to detail and you can definitely get there.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Cheers and enjoy...

I am in such a positive shock. There are a lot of mix tutorials on YT. The way these creators present the "tOp 10 SecReTs ThAt oNLy 1% of PRODucErS UsE" is corny: they show the process as something extremely difficult and complicated. You've done it in a really SIMPLE way: goddamn, EQ + compressor are more than enough to make a track that was uploaded to the Ableton channel! From now on I'm gonna stop watch those tutorials by self-proclaimed 'experts' :D Good video. I wish you a swift recovery!

yeah, really great lesson here -- and affirms much of what I already do, which is still helpful to know! Some things you mentioned but didn't get into detail about: 1/ when you EQ, I see the low band roll off applied, but do you not do this for the highs as well? 2/ the compressor to 'level' things - in a sense are you using it as a normalizer? Is that the objective? I understand compression at the master level, I just get lost with it at the instrument level. How much did you use on your percussion? 3/ Do you listen/mix at any point in mono Do you do this first or last? 4/ Any treatment after you've exported? (special consideration for streaming vs. mp3 vs. album formats?) I agree, its a beautiful composition "structurally'. Well done, Chris! Thanks again - I think this is my favourite track. How many unique pad instances are there on this??
