Programming drum patterns in Ableton Live doesn’t have to be a slow, repetitive process. In this video, I’m sharing a quick method I recently discovered that makes creating percussion faster and more intuitive. Whether you're struggling to bring your ideas to life or just looking for a fresh approach, this technique will help you tap into the groove and build patterns that really stand out in your tracks.

This method isn’t just about speed—it’s about unlocking creativity. By focusing on efficiency and flow, you’ll find it easier to craft tight, engaging rhythms that elevate your production. Do you guys already use this method? Are you doing something similar in your own DAW? Let me know in the comments down below!

Cheers and enjoy,

you can also click directly on the color of the track you wish to edit: - a blue or green note in your example - or the blue or green bar just above the note editor This way, you don't have to worry about the track selection order.

I had sat down last night and spent some time just making a few common patterns and saving off the midi heh

You can also check the ‘focus’ line above the midi clips to select which midi/sound you want to change. If you hover above it you can select the kick or the snare

I love that you're always learning and willing to share what you do learn to others. To many, they will already know, to many others, they won't know and be appreciative. Reading the comments on this has made me realise how easy it can be to switch instruments on the piano roll.
