Part 1 is here!

I’m excited to share the first part of my Deep Ethereal Ambient series with you, exclusively on Patreon. In this installment, we’ll focus on layering, which is essential for creating the rich, textured soundscapes that define tracks like W I N T E R S C A P E. I’ll guide you through the process of stacking and blending atmospheric pads, textures, and organic elements to build depth and create an immersive auditory experience. This foundation is key to crafting ethereal music that truly resonates.

We’ll also dive into sound selection and synthesis, focusing on tones that evoke the serene chill of a winter landscape. You’ll learn how to sculpt icy timbres using subtractive synthesis, while adding warmth and contrast with elements like bells and chimes. I’ll show you how to introduce movement into your sounds using modulation techniques, as well as how to create a sense of vastness with spatial effects like reverb and delay. Let’s explore these tools together and start building a deeply ethereal soundscape.

Nice one, my friend! The skin looks epic and the tutorial got off to an amazing start! I love this approach to them as we can really sink our teeth into the different considerations to making long form ambient music that’s interesting but not too distracting! I look forward to the rest of the series!

Deor42

Looking forward to this!

Clive

3 tracks in and it's already starting to form from the ether! (pun intended) :)

Rob Pullan

Very nice, very nice :)

Electronic Shaman

Fantastic tutorial, I'm looking forward to more.

darren

Wow nice one !!!

Cenotaff

Love these 3 part series with extra depth. Pure gold. Thank you.

Great tutorial, very educational. I paused a few times to look at terms, yet it helped me realise that Ethereal music ambient is definitely my genre.

Inverted- Popes

Really enjoyed that and although playing catch up looking forward to part 2 now.

Could you do a tutorial on how to create sets like The Guild of Ambience - 1 hour of Ambient Fantasy Music | Enchanted Lands - Volume 1,2,3, Adrift. It seems simple to me, but I can't achieve such a depth effect. I don't know if it's just me, but these few compilations are so addictive that I can listen to them non-stop.

Mysterien

Awesome tutorial Chris... thank you as always!

Sound and Soul Awakening

I've been loving your YT videos for quite a while - there's no one else on there that matches your enthusiasm + skill + ability to share quality information. It was an easy decision to take it one step further and join your Patreon, but I'm amazed at the amount of videos and presets you're constantly sharing with us. I finally got the time to really sink into this Part 1 after a handful of attempts that got disrupted by various things in life, and am going to go right into Part 2 with great anticipation!

I am finishing this tutorial now and it seems that I do not have the MIDI tool called Even Seed.... I only have Seed. Strange.

Thanks!

Love it! The density of this one is daunting - both for producer and listener. The wall of sound thing. It's a great exercise in sound design and arranging - and eventually for mixing. I'm also finding other directions I want to go with these sounds in more sparse tracks. That's a good sign that steady focus and practice is kicking my imagination into gear with this style. Ever on and upward!
