I’m excited to bring you Part 2 of the Deep Ethereal Ambient Series, where I dive deeper into the techniques that make ambient music so captivating and immersive. In this episode, I’ll explore how to craft lush, vocal-style pads in Pigments by shaping oscillator waveforms and using formant filters to create human-like tones. I’ll also show you how to enhance these pads with layers of reverb, delay, and subtle modulation to give them a heavenly, ethereal quality that feels alive and expressive.

But that’s not all—I’ll cover techniques for incorporating real-world instrument sounds, like bowed strings or plucked harps, to recreate authentic, organic spaces. You’ll learn how to blend these with synthetic textures and field recordings, using granular synthesis and convolution reverb to create otherworldly atmospheres. Finally, I’ll discuss meditative arrangement techniques, focusing on evolving modulations, shifting textures, and gradual changes to keep your listeners fully engaged in a serene and captivating soundscape. How are you liking this series so far? Have the techniques been useful in your own music? Let me know in the comments!

I love this new 3-part series. I don't see many people trying to explain and work with this style of ambient, which is definitely the one I love the most. Since you're open to this more organic style, I was wondering if you could work on something inspired by Liquid Bloom (Amani Friend). There is so much richness in his ambient ritual organic music that I find difficult to recreate. So much great call and response. I understand there are a lot of real instruments played by real people, but maybe you could find it inspiring to create something like "Medicine Bowls," "Kuya Sessions" (not the remixes), or even deeper with his most appreciated album from 2015, Heart of The Shamans. Thanks again for your inspiring content! I love it!

Can't think of a better way to start a Sunday, big cup of coffee and an ethereal S1gns tutorial! Thanks Chris!!

Great video again, Chris. One thing though - you said "Sounds like Christmas morning" yet I didn't hear anybody shouting "It's only 5am. Go back to your bed." :) LOL

Another awesome tutorial Chris. For anyone looking for some nice field recordings, has everyone checked out car manufacturer Kia's free sample plugin? https://www.kia.com/us/en/movement/our-instrument - Not sure why they chose to release a plugin but there's some real nice sounds in here..

Enjoyed this. Thanks.

This is incredibly useful. The bass from the previous episode was just what I needed for a similar track I’ve been working on. Question: if you have several layers onto which you’re adding Supermassive, won’t it create *a lot of reverb* in the final mix? 😊 How much is too much? Would it be wrong to send all these tracks to a single instance of Supermassive? Btw, the Cambodian frogs are amazing, used them on a track once. As for rain, it’s fun to try to make it less than real with a bandpass filter (or something more sophisticated like Kilohearts FilterTable, I imagine, don’t have this one yet).

This video makes me feel like I can talk to the frogs. Great tutorial. The crickets are top notch too. I Iove the call and response part too. Something I never really consider yet when you hear/see it, it transforms nice/good sounds onto another level with the synergy and depth.

finally catching up with this one just in time for the third instalment! top tips here

Once again you've hit on exactly the topics I've been wanting to learn about. I've been looking for a way to get vocal style pads and I didn't realise it was so simple to achieve using Pigments.

lovin' these soooo muuuch!!! Ty infinitely!

I haven’t been able to locate a full recording of “winterscapes” can someone point me in that direction?
