I was really waiting for this one!

This is one for the big speakers all the way! I love how the EQ is used to really bring out what I call the "dancing frequencies" because you can modulate the EQ and now you have a whole new rhythmic dimension to the sound. Endless possibilities.

YES! Can't wait to finish and tame this beast of a track!!! Awesome stuff Chris

This series represents the first level up of 2025 in my production process. Lots happening in this 3 part series! Had a couple important gaps that needed to be dealt with on my end, and I'm eager to enhance my work with these techniques. Nice work, Chris!

Kevin [Roots of Quiet]

Beautiful series! Thanks! The mix and mastering was so satisfying and helpful, my tracks gained a lot of quality because of it! In this series I loved to see how you made the vocal pad and i never thought about using parallel compression for ambient, but you demonstrated an interesting use of it here. Looking forward to the future series! More advanced stuff 😎🙏 cheers Chris!

Hi Chris, this is so epic and amazing.. I’ve been listening to a lot of ethereal ambient healing music on YouTube and always wondered how it was created. You’re the only person I’ve found online who explores this type of soothing, ethereal ambient music. I’m really grateful that you’re sharing all this with us. btw, are you planning to demystify dark dystopian ambient music? There are so many 1 hour music youtube videos in that specific substyle , and it would be fascinating to learn from you, if you explore those as well. A quick side question, if you don’t mind, are you using the Elgato Cam Link to capture your camera feed through OBS for your studio setup?

Hi Chris! Great tutorials, thanks! Please tell me, at the end of part 2 - Ethereal Pad sounds completely different than in part 3. How did you achieve that sound? And it would be very useful at the end of the lessons to receive the project files, if possible, so that you can check them and correct what is left behind the scenes. Thanks again!

I loved this series. The only thing I'd like to know more about is composition over real long form pieces like an hour or more. Aside from just repeating the same thing it is still a mystery to me.

Great series indeed S1gns! One question I have is should I keep the send effects separate from the bounced audio, or include them in the audio bounce for each track. I just wasn't sure if the EQ and compression on each track should be before or after reverb. Amazing series - Thank you!

Waveform

Like you, I've never put Reverb on the main bus before. Did you have to "dial back" the reverb sends on your tracks, or was it a case of balancing the mix on the main bus reverb?

Really enjoyed this deep dive into ambient music. The focus on sculpting space, EQ and balancing dynamics was invaluable and the importance of music translating across all listening environments being addressed, is very much appreciated. These techniques will definitely become a permanent part of the composing toolbox-thank you for such a technically proficient series.

Chris

Wow! This was such a fantastic series! I'm really interested in using this style of ambient (long form, ethereal) in some new programs I'm developing for my healing clients. This was so helpful and a good kick in the butt to start composing. Thank you, Chris!
