Ever wanted to turn a mono signal into a huge, swirling stereo field without touching third-party plugins?

This new Ableton Device chain is a powerful mid-side widening effect inspired by Dan Worrall’s “headphones are not stereo” trick. It uses only native Ableton devices, no FabFilter Q3 required, and the results are jaw-dropping. By monoing the signal, hard panning it, and applying a side-only high-pass filter with steep curves, you get an effect that creates stunning width with perfect phase alignment.

The real magic happens when you start modulating the filter cutoff. The stereo field begins to swirl and shift in a way that feels massive and dynamic, yet completely safe. It can hit the edge of zero on a phase correlometer but never dip into antiphase. Just load the device after any sound source, set the HardPan macro fully left or right, then use the HPF macro to sweep. You’ll hear the magic instantly.
