In Part 2 of our Understanding Synthesis series, we begin by reviewing the core ideas from Part 1 and seeing how they carry over into a DAW environment. Using Pigments, we’ll explore how modular principles like envelopes, VCAs, and modulation routing can be applied inside a software synth. This part is all about reinforcing what you've learned and recognizing the patterns that show up across different tools and platforms, helping you build a stronger and more flexible foundation.

After that, we head back into VCV Rack to go even deeper. This time we’re introducing concepts like attenuation, LFO modulation, and creative sequencing using a Bernoulli Gate. These techniques help bring unpredictability and nuance into your patches, making them feel more dynamic and expressive. If you’ve been enjoying the series so far, there’s plenty more to come. Thanks for being here and diving into the world of synthesis with me.

I'm liking the series so far, Chris. I started my synth journey in 5U modular many, many years ago, but moved away from it. While I don't really plan to go back to hardware modular, I do keep track of what's new and ways people are using it. Another useful modulation control tool that can be used instead of the a VCA is an attenuverter. It has the advantage of being able to invert the control voltage, which is useful for creating opposing voltage swings or reversing envelop outputs. The down-side is that it range typically can't be modulated except by "turning the knob". Cheers!

Damned useful series. So much has clicked into place watching this. Please continue it!
