BOOM! Another ambient tutorial...

The power of understanding frequency separation and how to fully use the frequency spectrum cannot be overstated! In this video, I walk you through one of my work-in-progress tracks and show you exactly why it's so important to work with the entire frequency spectrum from a sound design and compositional standpoint.

Amazing how a single note over an octave bass on that opening pad says "S1gns" immediately! :)

Thanks for this, Ive just joined your Patreon... so been working thru your (great) content. and Ive a question, related to this video Ive been trying to get my pads to occupy less of the freq spectrum, within sound design realm (not eqs) to keep the 800-2k area clear... (for other layers). and I wondering how you do this? as I don't see you using notch filters. so far my only solutions have been: a) osc into different filters osc 1 , bass part -> filter 1 LP @ 800 osc 2, perhaps +2 oct, more ear candy -> filter 2 HP 2k b) 2 tracks different pads. one track more the bass, so below C3 another track, more higher stuff, above C5 etc ... really this is a variation of (a) , using different tracks rather than different oscillators... but watching your videos, you seem to be oft using a mid-range pad, which unless heavily filtered, Id have thought bleeds into the 800-2k range ... and if you heavily filtered (LP), you cut out a lot of the sparkle (high end) that your presets seem to make really good use of. so, I think Im missing something... but not quite sure what :) thoughts? Btw: the reason Im trying to avoid EQs, is Im oft using hardware synths, where the EQing is limited, and I want to be able to play it live. so I'm not after a perfect mix, rather just a nice balance of freq, some space... as you show in this video.

Thanks Chris! Really enjoyed this video. I would love to see you do a video just covering some basic tweaking in Hive2. That would be fun and informative.
