When it comes to software, there are tons of available options these days. I realize however, that some of you might not have access to all the software that I use in my videos, and that’s okay. One of my main goals with this channel is to make ambient music and music production accessible to everyone regardless if they have the same set of tools as I do. 

So in this video, we’re going to produce an ambient track from scratch using ONLY free plugins so we can level the playing field and just focus in on the music and the production techniques. It may seem like a limitation, but as you'll soon see - there's more than enough quality free plugins to make a good track.

Not exactly free, but I have really started to try and use Ableton’s proprietary synths more.

Great video exploration! I use Supermassive, and Vital, although most of my preferred plugins are actually ones I bought, or presets I bought to use as starting points from which I create my own.

Hey Chris. A sister topic here could be to create a new ambient piece using only Ableton built-in instruments and effects. With the advent of Push 3 standalone, it may prove popular if you cast a wide net (eg. public video.)
