Your monthly ambient tutorial is here!

One of my patrons suggested that I take a second (or third!) look at "DUST" the trippy granular synth thing from SoundMorph. I've had DUST since launch but have never really used it for production work. Maybe that will change? In today's video, we start with DUST and go on from there, covering how to use looping LFOs in Vital, adjusting presets to fit your track, and round it all out with a sequence from Catalyst.

Oh man, Dust is insanely good! I've been eyeing it for years and bought it recently on sale. So happy to see you cover it, will watch as soon as I get off work :-)

So I just want to add that yes, you can drop your own samples on Dust's 8 emitters (that one you used in Vital could be interesting!). There's one odd thing about Dust which was not clear to me from watching the SoundMorph tutorials - you can't play it like a synth or a typical sampler, it will not repitch the samples to match the notes you play, but you can of course load it with samples tuned to the pitches you need. It's probably mostly useful for atmos, just like in your video, but with 8 emitters and custom samples you can create interesting patterns and movements. And there's an FX version thrown in, which can make grains out of audio input, but I've had a difficult time with it so far. It really isn't very intuitive, but I don't think any other vst does what Dust does.

What’s your feelings around using Stepic vs Catalyst — in terms of workflow and getting sequences which you feel is better to purchase ?

Cool ok what’s best video to learn Stepic did you have one on pateron or YouTube or what you recommend
