In this video, I start to address this topic and show you just a few creative ways you can get some high end frequency into your tracks.

On my livestream a few days ago, I mentioned that for beginners it's not always advisable to reach for the rain sample or any other sample just for the sake of adding high end content. While these can be easy and helpful ways to make your tracks sound more "clear" and have presence, it can quickly become a go-to in your production process.

It's not that using samples like this is bad, but there are more creative ways to use samples that can open up the opportunity for the listener to be invited into a new world that's been created, somewhere they have never been before. So in this video, I start to address this topic and show you just a few creative ways you can get some high end frequency into your tracks.

Hopefully you enjoy this one! What are your favorite ways to add high frequency? Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks for this - I've tried similar methods, but the Ableton spectral resonator (in your hands) seems to give more "satisfying" results than other methods I've tried...but I'll have a play around in Bitwig this afternoon....

Great use of the samples, and great examples! I love doing that kind of stuff -- mangle a simple natural sound sample into something really interesting.

Initially, you hear the raw sample, then through the resonator set to C minor with C an octave below. Then I introduce a "Granularizer" (Arturia Fragments) BEFORE the resonator to break it up a bit, then a High pass filter, then reverb and finally a low pass filter modulated to open slightly by an LFO... If anything, it sounds like a pad overlayed on the top rather than an atmosphere, so at the end I dialled in a bit of the original sample back to re-introduce some texture!! (Can anyone else hear what sounds like 2x piano notes excited by the resonator at the 33 second mark!)?...

Tips for the Bitwig Resonator bank... If You "adjust the dots" for each resonator, you get pitch displayed in Hz... When you adjust the bands using the knobs, it displays the pitch next to the frequency at the info bar at the bottom of the screen... With hindsight, I should have loaded the sample into a Synth like Phase Plant for the granular process before running it through the FX, but I dropped the sample on a track instead...

Incredibly cool video, Chris. Going to try the sample/resonator feature in Pigments for this. Looks like a lot of fun!

I totally get what you mean about those rain samples, and I think you were clear enough on the video you have on YouTube. But I'm glad you made this video as well to get even deeper into this. Much appreciated!

Hello Chris, I'm happy every time you publish a new tutorial. I have already learned a lot from you. can you tell me where I can find this noise preset for Serum? This doesn't exist for me. Thank you very much for your answer and keep it up
