One of the most challenging aspect of mixing can be identifying "Trouble Frequencies" that can really make a difference in your mix. In this tutorial, we’ll also dive into the world of dynamics, exploring how compression can shape your sound. I’ll guide you through using automation to smoothly adjust levels, ensuring each part of your track stands out just right. Plus, I’ll reveal my personal tips on using the master fader channel strip effectively.

Hopefully you guys enjoy this one! Let me know what you think in the comments below or if there are things you are struggling with I'll try and cover those in future tutorials.

Cheers,

That was great information as usual Chris, thanks

Thanks, Chris. Mixing tuts are always welcome. With my faders all set to 0db, I often end up using gain and volume adjustments in my "tool" device in Bitwig (utility in Ableton), and, so, my faders end up still at 0db. I'd love to see how you use the faders in you mix process. Do you find the loudest track and pull others down relative to it, or what?

Thanks for the tutorial Chris. One question, how often do you use saturation and distortion when mixing your ambient tracks? When I was learning music production for more bombastic and intense music (ie trailer music) a lot of the producers and mix engineers used plug ins like the multiband saturator from Wavesfactory called Spectre or they would use Decapitator from Sound Toys. Do you ever find yourself needing similar plugins? I am guessing not, seeing as this genre of music is less "in your face" and possibly the only time it would be necessary is during the sound design phase. But I would still be interested in your perspective.

Always super useful to see the considerations you make at this stage of the process!

Thanks for this reminder to keep it simple. mixing/mastering is this huge thing in my head.
