In this video we go over some basic chord shapes for ambient music as well as some tips on how you can change things up in your own music and break through stagnation in your own creative process.

Selecting the right chords is one of the most important parts of ambient composition so hopefully videos like this help make it easier for you to understand what chords to use as wel as give you some ideas on how to get more experimental in your own work.

While I haven’t seen The video yet. Reading the passage before watching. I thought, it’s possible to use the chords twice. Firstly, as a cord and secondly, as a sequence. Then, there’s an opportunity for a continuing theme in sonic coherence. So let’s watch the video! Also, I’d like to say, thank you, Chris, for your continued very hard work!

In this video, every word mattered. Also, has increased the interest in ‘Push.’ It is fundamentally, one of the most important videos ever watched. Therefore, am watching multiple times. Each reception of audio and visual experience causes increased understanding of this subject matter.

Thanks as always Chris, I dont use push i love using keys I think for me the inversion part of the lesson was the most important !!

Helpful as always. I don't own a Push (and probably never will--ka-ching), so visually you might as well have been using an abacus to calculate artillery trajectories. However it did inspire me to dig out my Akai MPD 218 as an alternative. 👍

Not sure if this will help anyone, but I'll post just in case. A while back I was noodling around with chord progressions. I did some research on 'common chord progressions'. Simplified it and came up with an easy to follow chart for use with jamming. How to use: Choose a root note and hang there for a a bit. Then randomly chose a number from the chart. That is the next chord. Then, sequentially work your way back to the root chord only taking one step at a time. You can move up/down or diagonal. Table: 743714734 256256256 Each number needs to be in its own "box" for the grid to line up correctly. This has helped me when jamming. All the best!

You reminded me about inversions, somehow I kinda slipped it and didn't think that much anymore about the concept. It's good to be reminded and to be conscious about what keys we push. And for some reason I still try to understand, every key you touch sounds so good. So much to learn. Thanks a lot man.
