It's July and the height of summer here in the northern hemisphere. So, for the second time, we're counting down our favorite Songs of Summer.

I've compiled the top 19 up-voted submissions from our Discord round. These options are displayed according to their vote totals in the first round, with the highest vote-getters at the top. Your task is to vote for up to five that you most want to see in the video.

Here is a YouTube Playlist for these selections: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLO0n3LrUjxKqTzONPyAotgWQsN8cqUYxs&si=COakoJ9WMFE1mvBZ

Here's a link to a spreadsheet presentation of these options, including the submitter's notes: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11cXUezpyHw0MqlmxqX69yPtWXWJeVsFHTjKnpQgjN9U/edit?usp=sharing

This poll will be active through Sunday, July 28. I expect to release the video on Tuesday, July 30.

Thanks, as always for your participation!

For me my vote has to go to Mungo Jerry. That song has been The song of summer ever since I was a kid! 👏🏻😁 “In the summer time when the weather was good …”

Jeff Norman

No “Hot Fun in the Summertime”? A travesty!

It was nominated last year, but didn't get enough votes to be in the video.

Mark Rozanski

Some good choices here. For me in my teen years summer always meant Van Halen. Panama, Unchained, Summer Nights, etc.

The Nanny named Fran

Twistin by the pool for me. That one really made me wish I could dance 💃 💕

Bernie

The only Gershwin cover that counts for me is Janis Joplin‘s version…

Dean

I had suggested Sunset Grill by Don Henley but a mod struck it down because it didn’t have summer in the title 😭😂

Salvador Montoro Goethe

All choices are fantastic, but I feel "Paradise by the dashboard light" compiles it all. Summer in a nutshell hehehe

Ruth James

I thought you did Mungo Jerry's In the Summertime last summer?

Ruth James

I would love to see Doug's reaction to Peaches 😆

I almost picked that one, but went for this version as it had Joni Mitchell and Herbie Hancock (and I like it).

It was in the Patreon poll but was a couple of votes shy of making the video.

Did this actually happen? If so, I’m very sorry to hear this, Dean. It shouldn’t have happened. The rules for this month’s FF theme were loose enough to include songs that make you think of summer or that remind you of activities you’ve done during summer. So your submission should have been allowed.

I'm glad Twisting By The Pool by Dire Straits got in...I wasn't sure it would make it! Some great tracks in there too....particularly Meat Loaf! :-)

Dean, I did DM you on Discord because when you put in the Don Henley tune and the Stapleton's tune, you did not put in the correct format for the bot to pick up your submission to vote. In the FF vote thread there is a sticky post laying out the rules of the FF submission and a section on how to post your submission. It wasn't that your submission was ineligible. Any questionable FF submissions as far as the rules are brought to Doug's attention. The issue you had was the format so the bot can put the submission up for a vote on the discord server. Sorry for the miscommunication.

Hi friends, this is Meg typing 🙂❤️ Thank you for clarifying this, @Arrow2theACL. Appreciate you doing that 🙏❤️ So it was not a song choice issue, it was just an issue of 1) not typing the command .suggest at the beginning of the submission, and 2) the rule that you can only make one Fan Favorites submission per month. Typing the command .suggest engages the recommendations bot that we use in the FF channel over on our Discord. When making a FF submission, the first thing you need to type is .suggest, and then type up the rest of your submission (song title, band/artist, YouTube or Spotify link, and why you’ve chosen that song). If you don’t start your submission by typing .suggest, your submission will not post correctly in the FF channel. No one will be able to vote for it. A correctly formatted Fan Favorites submission should look something like this: .suggest “Cruel Summer” by Bananarama, https://youtu.be/l9ml3nyww80?si=LGirrg4xmUO3kwXx. This song brings back so many fun memories of summers when I was a kid. Dean, I am very sorry for this miscommunication/misunderstanding, and that you were not able to submit your song choice. I hope you will try again for next month’s Fan Favorites. If you have any questions or need any assistance on submitting music recommendations on Discord, please do not hesitate to DM Chad (Arrow2theACL), me (Meg), or Doug. We’ll be happy to assist you 🙂❤️

Thank you for the clarification. I’m a newbie 😂

Meg here again 🙋🏻‍♀️🙂 No worries Dean! We’re here to help in any and all ways that we can 🙂❤️ And again, we’re so sorry for the miscommunication 🫂

Tim van der Leeuw

How many songs will there be in the reaction in total?

Lashers
>>144748700

It depends on length. I think Doug normally aims for roughly 45 minutes of music to give an hour's video in total but some have been longer.

Phil Sparkes

Would like to have seen Bobby Goldsboro's "Summer (The First Time)" on the list.
