I only voted for the King Crimson one as jazz is not really my genre; however, I look forward to watching this reaction and maybe broadening my musical tastes 🙂

Bill Coonley

Nice batch of tunes. Another round would be welcome, maybe sooner than next April!

What a great joy (and I'm not a Jazzer!). Must do it again, and I hope we get some Keith Jarrett and some Oscar Peterson, and...and..and..

You got to many of my favorites in this collection. To answer your question about Brand X, there were only a small handful of songs by them that had lyrics all sung by Phil. The majority of their music was instrumental. Phil was doing double duty from 1976 to 1979 in between Brand X and Genesis. I believe Product with And So To F was the last studio album he was on. If we have an EPL of Brand X, I recommend Moroccan Roll. You played Malaga Virgen which was my choice on Doug On Demand.

Great to see and hear Brand X...your question about Phil's activity is answered by the fact that he was doing "everything" back in 79 and 80 and 81. In 79 Genesis were just back off of their tour for "And Then There Were 3", which was HUGE! Phil's marriage was falling apart...Tony and Mike made solo records and Phil went to Canada to try and patch up with his wife - which failed. Phil came back to Brand X. He also worked closely with John Martyn (whose marriage was also failing), and they made two very dark-themed albums with Phil on drums and producing - Grace & Danger, and Glorious Fool. Both of these are fantastic records, with some of Collins' best drumming. One can only imagine some of the drinking sessions which accompanied their sessions!!! Phil also made "Face Value", his debut solo record, produced and played for Annifrid Lyngstad of Abba, and Robert Plant. He was a busy boy. Then Genesis reconvened and made "Duke", and toured that really extensively around UK and the planet.

A couple of matters arising. From the Chick Corea: Airto Moreira and Flora Purim were husband & wife, both with extensive credits, and had an amazing band called Fourth World which I saw play in 1992 & 1993. And as you enjoyed Crimson Jazz, how about Jazz Sabbath? this is also a piano trio, led by Adam Wakeman (one of Rick's sons), the concept being that Black Sabbath stole everything from Jazz Sabbath.
