If Haken, it should be visions, wonderful concept album

prog mushroom

Camel of course 😕 but no Hope to see it win this poll 😠😠

Bill Sanders

I’m certainly not going to “argue” against any of those 😄. Thank you for soliciting our input, Doug!

christoph ziesecke

good to know Marillion is still on your list :-) all the best from germany

Anonymous

As much as I appreciate all of Haken's work, Affinity is my favorite. I can't NOT vote for it.

Erik Berg

I voted for King Crimson. Camel would be my 2nd choice, followed by Genesis. I’m not familiar with the other 2 albums but I’m sure they’re great as well!

Matthew Hackbert

I voted KC, but i have heard that they block on YT a lot.

Anonymous

Ohh noo... Are you really going to let me choose between Haken and KC? Might aswell vote for them both

Arrow2theACL

If you turn your back on affinity. It will turn into toxicity. 😁 fans of the 80s will love this one.

Anonymous

ah .. fellow listeners.. don't despair, there are many weeks ahead of us, and plenty of fridays.. all our faves will eventually appear..

Ben Allen

My heart says Genesis or King Crimson, but I hadn't listened to Haken before Doug's recent video and quite liked it, so I'm kind of pulling for that for the excuse to be exposed to new stuff.

Roy Torset

I like this way of doing it,5 alternativs presented, and most votes win it🙂.i voted for a consept album, with a piece called «the lamia» in it😁

Tempest Meridian

Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is one of my dad's favorite albums, and he took me to see a Genesis tribute band (The Musical Box) perform the whole album. It was great - I will vote Genesis.

Tempest Meridian

Not too familar with the older King Crimson stuff, but I like the newer albums. Haken is one of my favorite bands. I will be throwing my firm support behind Dream Theater's The Astonishing until that happens.

Frank Bernard

I really would love to see War of the Worlds Part 1 by Michael Romeo.

Dennis Rees

I know you haven't given Magenta a go yet. Suggest you add their "Singles" album to your list for the Extended Play. It is a compilation from a number of their albums to the release date. If you can only do one tune, I recommend "Anger" from this album. One of the most beautiful guitar solos I have ever heard.

aaron c

This channel needs more Neal Morse so I went Snow!

Richard Moore

I hope Jethro Tull's A Passion Play is somewhere in your queue for full album covers!

Illume Eltanin

I'm afraid it will never be chosen, as it is more of an electronic/ambient sound than what the channel focuses on, but I'll still suggest Jon Anderson's Olias of Sunhillow for consideration. I'm also still patiently awaiting the Moody Blues, although I suspect they wouldn't generate many votes either. aw, well...

Damian Polszakiewicz

Awesome list, I'd have them all! Will keep my vote for The Lamb, a masterpiece, and a double one :)

Mike D

For extended play, The Neal Morse Band's epic masterpiece The Similitude of a Dream would be fantastic. Mike Portnoy (formerly of Dream Theater) is brilliant on drums, and doesn't do the double kick nearly as often as he did in his younger days.

This is the nice thing about posting these to Vimeo…don’t think they can block it on that platform.

Leo Sconzo

Not the best genesis album but still ok

Eirik Morken

Doug, you really need to check out more in the world of Neal Morse. Neal Morse Band, Flying Colors, Transatlantic. But first of all, you HAVE to listen to Snow. It's my desert island album. I saw how much you loved the first Spock's Beard song you reacted to. This album is so touching in every way. The melodies, harmonies, the playing, the sound. Please Doug! And yes, you have to check out The Similitude of a Dream as well, by the Neal Morse Band. It's based on the book "A Pilegrim's Progress". I know many people shy away from Neal's christianity, but he writes in a spiritual way as well, so everyone can interpret his songs as they want.

Richard Karbowski

I am still voting for The Lamb, but In The Court is arguably where 'prog' started, and definitely worth listening to. Just keep in mind that Steven Wilson's remix considerably shortened Moonchild, so you should use the original mix (in my opinion). For future consideration: Van der Graaf Generator-Godbluff or H To He, Who Am The Only One (the VdGG box set comes out Sept 3...Pawn Hearts (with A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers) in 5.1 surround! OMG!!) IQ-Subterranea Hatfield and The North (either album, self titled or The Rotters Club) to get a sense of the Canterbury sound Jethro Tull-A Passion Play For Zappa that is a tricky one for a full album. I love The Grand Wazoo, but may be too jazzy, so maybe Overnite Sensantion?

Toonimated

All great albums but “In the Court” is in a whole different level. Hoping it gets picked but can’t go wrong with any of these options. :)

It pains me as well as Im a huge Camel fan- especially Mirage.., but ITCOTCK is a masterpiece...

Hi Doug, I'm new to your Patreon, so I'm fairly sure you've heard this already but I'd recommend Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence by Dream theater, at least the main suite. Thanks!

Frank Canepa

I would like to see Neal Morse Teastimony I or II and Sola Scriptura. Or Neal Morse Band Similitude of A Dream or Great Adventure.

Fabian J Lelo

Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Gray Queensrÿche - Operation: Mindcrime The Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed Deep Purple - Concerto for Group and Orchestra

Anonymous

Thanks for doing these, Doug! I would suggest a subset of Deep Purple's Made In Japan. A truly great live album, and really fun to isolate the individual instruments.

Anonymous

voted for Mirage, simply b/c its my favorite album of the 5. "Lady Fantasy" is one of my favorite prog rock JAMS of all time

Andy McKinney

I'd prefer Camel but King Crimson with Greg Lake is great. I think they might be blockers though.

Garance A Drosehn

I absolutely love "Lady Fantasy" off of Camel's "MIrage", but for a full album reaction for a Camel album I'd prefer to see either "Moonmadness" or "Stationary Traveller".

Joakim Skurk

I just realized there's is no chance for Haken to win, so I will go cry myself to sleep. Good night.

Jackson Bross

Several of these feel like essential listening at some point, so it's hard to choose. But my heart says it has to be KC first -- it's sort of the founding statement of prog rock.

mike.cats.guns

Court and Lamb may be more classic and iconic albums, but Snow is better than either.

Paul

I'd like to suggest: Rennaisance - "Scheherazade and Other Stories," Lori Lieberman with the Matangi Quartet - "The Girl and the Cat" Joshua Rifkin's album, "Scott Joplin: Piano Rags.

Blinky
>>66356257

Better than Lamb, but I wouldn't say it's better than Court.

Bill C

Much as I'd love to see Haken, I think that both Aquarius and Visions are *much* better candidates for an Extended Play session. Genesis got my vote, just fingers crossed that KC doesn't win.

Anonymous

Great to see Haken here. But for an extended play I think we should put here Visions or Aquarius, Those two albums are amazing

Arrow2theACL
>>66364640

As stated before. I tend to agree, but it's difficult to make a recommendation because each Haken album is so unique. Those 2 are amazing concept albums, but I actually would think the 70s prog fans on Doug's patreon would enjoy listening to the entire Mountain album.

John Clark

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is a MUST, as is In the Court of the Crimson King. Seeing as anything by King Crimson will be blocked it would make better sense to do the Genesis album, which is their apotheosis anyway.

Scott Friedman

Peter Gabriel era Genesis doesn't usually get enough love, so I vote for that.

Newt

All good choices, I would prefer something from Genesis that was from the early era like Saving England or Foxtrot. KC for me as I saw this show live in the 69 they were very disciplined back then Greg Lake on vocal & Bass was mesmerising, and the music was "out there" for it's time, KC, Pink Floyd and Yes got me into Prog or Underground as we knew it then. Great YouTube presentations Doug, keep up the good work I'm hooked. Chris, Melbourne Australia. Y'all

As a matter of interest Doug, if you research Robert Fripp and what he calls The Endless Grief you may get an idea of why he is so protective of his intellectual property. I don't know for sure but you might try contacting his company, Discipline Global Mobile, to see if there is any way of negotiating permission to use any King Crimson music. The worst that can happen is that they say No.

Ron Swirson

The Lamb & Court should be listened to for sure, perhaps The Lamb should be first but my heart is with Court since it is often considered the foundation of Prog music and all that followed. Courts achilleas heel is Moonchild which I always skip, the intro is nice but the rest is just ambient music which to me is rather dull, other than that it's a phenomenal and groundbreaking record.

Patrick Aris

I wish Mirage was doing better, but the KC album would be great (even though my favorite from them is Red). Lamb is great too but it is a double album; I'd start with Selling England by the Pound for something a bit more digestible.

Brian Pate

You need to do Brain Salad Surgery or at least the entire Karn Evil 9 suite in it's 3 impressions.

Randy Hammill

Court is a classic, and should be followed up by Red, Discipline, Thrak, and the Power to Believe. That still only scratches the surface, but will give you as good an overview as any.

Randy Hammill
>>66372345

The improv portion of Moonchild certainly isn't up to their later improvs (particularly the '73-'74 era), but it at least brings the improvisational element into the album which was already a staple of their live sets.

Anonymous

Too bad Snow is never going to win this way.

Richard Worrall

Hi Doug, interesting new choices and delighted to see Camel and KC on the list. I suspect the comments re blocking will be the case re KC so let's hope that the Camel starts to run a little faster and win by a short head!

Daniel Andrews
>>66399133

One day it’ll make the poll. And then one day everyone will experience the joy. 😁

Daniel Andrews
>>66397964

Let’s form an alliance! I’ll vote for snow until it wins and if Pain of Salvation “BE” ever makes the poll you vote for that! 😁👍🏼

doughelvering
>>66398393

I'm committed to making sure KC is included on the Patreon side of things because I can host these videos via my Vimeo account...which (to my knowledge) will be much more difficult for KC to block. My blocked episode of Starless has been up on Vimeo and available here on Patreon for a month without incident.

Lionheart

Pink Floyd - Animals

Frits van Voorst

KC would be great. It can be considered to be the real start of progressive rock that opened new musical horizons. An album with true historical significance, which afaik has never been out of catalogue since it came out in '69.

Matt M

Definitely King Crimson, it's even more amazing to listen to with the context that it was released in 1969 and the other music around at that time.

Anonymous

Really love Mirage from Camel, and after my first listen yesterday Haken sounds really cool as well. Despite that, I voted for KC and I hope they win. The album is just so important for metal, prog and even more!

Jake Vogt

These are all great choices but I have a feeling Crimson King is gonna give Doug a lot to talk about

Anonymous

Of these options, Mirage is my favorite. Seems to be losing the popular vote tho, so I would be happy with just Lady fantasy from that album making an appearance as a single song in the Daily Doug at some point

Wade Markham

I'd like to see Doug's reactions to Henry Cow or Eloy or Caravan or Curved Air. Also, more of Van Der Graaf Generator.

Anonymous

I wouldn't have thought this was the case but I've found it even more fun to listen a long with Doug on songs I don't know compared to songs I do know. So I picked spocks beard

Sian Podmore

Ditto lizardperson, but I'd still like to hear what Doug makes of Yes's 'Topographic Oceans'

Charles Hill

Didn't vote -- I'm not a fan of the 40+ minute long listen to's. Rather have a 10 minute piece pulled apart and it's layers pealed back so that we can understand how the bones hold it all together. That could still amount to 20+ minutes but I enjoy them far more.

Pavel Kulagin

Please watch Pain of Salvation - Be - Live DVD as a part of the extended lounge!

Daniel Andrews

Yes yes yes! I request every week! Need more! And I agree the live version is fantastic!
