#OzzyOsbourne #DiaryOfAMadman #MetalMonday #OzzyOsbourneReaction #RandyRhoads In this episode of #TheDailyDoug, I'm reacting to Diary of a Madman from Ozzy Osbourne, featuring guitar work by Randy Rhoads. I was quite surprised to find out that the lyrics were not written by Ozzy but by bass player Bob Daisley. The lyrics are as real and vulnerable a first-hand account of going through mental health challenge that I've come across in quite some time. The asymmetrical rhythms and syncopations add to the composition's effectiveness and flair.  Reference Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mskHNJtfBQ

Not many know, but Randy Rhodes was also a fantastic classical guitar player!

Jamie Perdue

Bob Daisly wrote most of Ozzy's lyrics up to 89. Geezer wrote most of the Sabbath lyrics. Ozzy barely wrote anything throughout his career.

Erik Berg

Wow, this blew me away! I’m a huge Sabbath fan but I’ve only heard Ozzy’s first solo album. I thought that was pretty good but nothing spectacular; this, on the other hand, was amazing! I’ll have to check out the rest of the album. Great video as always, thanks Doug!

Thanks for posting it here and avoiding the YT blocker.. I'm a big fan of Randy Rhoads.. First guitar tab I ever got was for the Tribute album (which unfortunately doesn't feature much of this album because it was recorded on the tour before), what a way to learn that there's a ton to learn about guitar! Guitar is tuned to Eb, or album is slowed, it's rumoured that it was rushed and some of the songs are missing whole guitar parts.

John Clark

Have to say that this surprised me greatly. A really good song. Not the cliche that it very easily could have been, especially in the hands of Ozzy.

Shawn Hegarty

Credit to the folks who recommended this for Doug to watch. This is the perfect song for this channel. I feel like part of Doug's audience leans metal, and part of them lean prog. This track showcases the best of both worlds.

I think that sums it up pretty well. Well said, sir. Where on the spectrum do you find yourself? Me, I'm at about the 90% Prog mark.

Sian Podmore

Wow! That was really quite unexpected from Ozzy. Astonishing, what a piece of music, so profound. Thank you to those who recommended it and to Doug for critiqueing it.

I would definitely say that I'm around the 75% metal mark. But I do like a lot of prog. Dream Theater is one of my absolute favorite bands and also what brought me to Doug's channel in the first place. I see them also as a beautiful marriage of both worlds.

Scott Friedman

Ozzy didn't write ANY of his lyrics. Daisley wrote all of them, and lots of the riffs too. He wrote the Crazy Train guitar lick.

Charles Hill

Lee Kerslake not Lee Kerlaki or whatever you said. [local boy to where I live] you could feature something from his other band sometime -- Uriah Heep. Yes so many rock family trees overlap and are inter related.

Lars Erik Brobakken

For some reason, the genius of this song escaped me on my metal journey of 20+ years. I'm grateful for this inclusion, Doug! Really eye-opening, and as someone who has had his shares of mental struggles - it really resonates on a deeper level.
