Marillion won the first round. I'm very excited to dive into more music by this band that is quite new to me. All of the choices are full albums this time (even though I've heard a third of FEAR already.) Select your preferred choice! We'll run this poll through Saturday the 13th.  Happy voting!

I think F*E*A*R* should have to wait, because the channel has already covered a good part of it! 🙂 I do think it's a great album, for sure. It happens that this list is missing my top two favorite albums from Marillion, but these are all fine choices. We'll have to cover the others at some later date!

Ben Allen

Grendel, my man. Grendel.

John Clark

Come on guys and guyettes, Clutching at Straws, Clutching at Straws, Clutching at Straws. It has a connection to the DD in that there's quite a few references to (as our North American friends seem to say) cocktails. How could you not vote for it?

doughelvering

About the selection process...I know I wanted Misplaced Childhood (because so many have asked for it). I know I wanted FEAR (because I really liked what I've already heard.) I also that it important to include their first album. The other two were included based on 'best of' lists and some commercial stats. We're still young...if you're album isn't on this list, we'll get to it sometime!

mike.cats.guns

Genuinely surprised Script isn't getting more love.

Russell L. Craft

I would be happy with any of them. Like FEAR the least of them. I think Brave might be the best of the Hogarth era - really creepy concept album. Script is one of the best debut albums of all time. I'm voting for Misplaced Childhood mostly because it is Marillion's "Dark Side Of The Moon" and is in general the best representation of the Fish era.

David Granger

MARBLES (or Misplaced Childhood for Fish era Marillion) Grendel sounds rather pasted together and sophomoric to my ear--an early effort at something they'd learn to do much better in later years. Brave is great, but also very dark and intense.

Deepak Singh

Can’t go wrong with this one

Deepak Singh

I voted “Script for a Jester’s Tear” but could easily have picked 2 others.

Richard Karbowski

I am voting for Script, as that is still my favorite, although Clutching is a very close 2nd. Looks like Misplaced is well in the lead, which I am ok with, but Script and Clutching hit me harder lyrically. Not a big Hogarth fan, although Brave is decent...

Travis Lausch

Misplaced Childhood is probably one of their most popular albums, and you've mostly done H-era Marillion so far, so it'd be nice to hear your take on their most popular Fish-era record.

Ian Raine

Had to vote for Misplaced Childhood, because I am old enough to remember hearing the band on Radio JJJ back then ;-) Script was a bit raw but I nearly picked it because of that.

Paul Mouradjian

Script....it may not win...but yeah.....that is the macdaddy.

christoph ziesecke

I vote for Brave….it never grows old…and it is a part in my life for more than 25 years….true story and a fantastic atmosphere….but all 5 are great

Estefanía Sucre

Misplaced Childhood is a conceptual album Masterpiece! I hope it wins!!!

A.F. Harrold

I'm not sad or surprised to see Misplaced Childhood in the lead, though as some have said, probably slightly prefer the lyrical grit of Clutching at Straws. But either way, this is going to be a great listen! (I look forward to hearing some solo Fish on the channel one day - maybe Plague of Ghosts or the High Wood suite from Feast of Consequences for a long form Friday!)

Doug Maynard

Any of these will be great. Marbles hopefully will show up in a future extended play, it's widely beloved as one of their best of the h era.

Matt Groth

I believe Brave is the crowning masterpiece of the catalog, and I'm a die-hard for the entire career. I'm excited for ANY of these options but voted Brave.

Paul Lowder

Can’t argue with any of these really. Clutching gets my vote but happy with whatever is chosen.

Paul Hoyle

Misplaced Childhood is just one of those albums that you'll never forget listening to for the first time...and Clutching At Straws is arguably a perfect sequel to MC...I can't wait to see your reaction to this album Doug...what a treat to be able to listen to so many amazing albums for the first time so close together.....like having Christmas presents continually come at you...enjoy.

Paul Hoyle

I recall seeing them live at the Manchester Apollo (UK) in January 1986 playing the entire MC album live...simply amazing experience that has never left me.

Michael Horvath

Too bad Marillion's second album "Fugazi" which came after their Debut album "Script for a Jester's Tear" wasn't added to this poll. It's my favorite of the classic Fish-era Marillion albums.

Steve Hall

Misplaced Childhood was one of the first albums, which I really felt spoke to directly to me. I was in the Army, stationed in West Germany when it came out, and I was fortunate enough to see them on that tour at the Furth Stadthalle in November of 1985. It is looking like Misplaced Childhood will win the poll, and I am very much looking forward to Doug's interpretation of that wonderful album.

Einaras Sipavičius

I don't understand what everybody finds so attractive in Misplaced Childhood, for me it's one of the weakest Marillion albums (and definitely weakest of Fish era). But maybe Doug will crack its secret and share with us so I could reconsider my indifference towards that album. P.S. Voted for Script, that is my favourite by Marillion.

Claudio M M

Clutching At Straws is the best album of the Fish era, which is the best Marillion era ;)

Dave Vick

I'll wait for the Zappa to vote... Not a fan of Marillion. But then like my grandfather always said: "Sonny, be glad we all like different stuff. Otherwise, everybody in the world would be chasing after your grandma."

Pedro Sena

The one piece of Marillion that should be checked out is that one with a small chamber orchestra and how beautifully one piece was done. It is truly special.

Digibirder

Doug is officially "One of Us" now. There is a lot of Marillion goodness to look forward to in the the future, I'm certain. "Misplaced Childhood" will be a great stop on the journey. Maybe even "An Hour Before It's Dark" when that comes out next year, perhaps?

Sugar Mouse

Hoping you do an episode on the new Marillion album out in early March. It's called An Hour Before It's Dark.
