No...this is not the Episode 15 video. I'm sorry...I'm behind a bit. I'm recording Episode 15 (The Human Equation) tomorrow. But, I need to get caught up on the EPL episodes, so here's the poll for episode 16.  The last time we did a 'standard operating procedure' poll was for Episode 13. In that poll, Led Zeppelin won, and we listened to Houses of the Holy. For Episode 14, I did one of my 'Doug's Choice' episodes, choosing Supertramp's Crime of the Century from our Discord Recommendations channel. For Episode 15, I elevated Ayreon past the first round of polling, as I had just scored an interview with Arjen, and Ayreon came in second in the previous poll.

So, now, we're including Frank Zappa as he was the third place finisher in the last poll. I'm adding The Grand Wazoo to the Zappa selection, as it is newly on our active recommendation list. And, the other four selections also include albums. So, you're choosing for the artist AND album this time. It's one round only! I'm curious to see which selection wins!

Voting is active through next Thursday, March 10.

Similitude of a Dream… what a masterpiece ❤️

James Owen

Cmon guys, he needs more Zappa in his life.

Cristián Gálvez

Rush, the last album ❤🤘🏼 return to power!

j z

Clockwork angels!

Sid Levy

Going with early Queen on this one.

Robert W Rucker

Did you mean “One Size Fits All,” as it is in the poll, or “Grand Wazoo,” as in the text? Not too pressing, I’d vote for the ELP over either one, but Wazoo would be close.

Tom Brophy

All of these are great. Clockwork Angels as Rush’s triumphant last album is the one I would go with here or of ELP wins then next time.

Prog Rock Piano Bar

Your breakdown of Prophet Song was one of my favorite TDD episodes. NIGHT AT THE OPERA ALL THE WAY! A Masterpiece beginning to end!

Éric Gagnon

Pictures at an Exhibition is nice, but I'm much more curious about A Night at the Opera, being all original compositions and a kind of "music hall programme music", which I don't think the prog scene of the time ever produced. A Vaudevillian record with great songs and masterful sound design!

KB Gardner

One Size Fits All is my favorite of the Zappa studio albums, so it is hard not to vote for it, but there is really not a weak choice in this lot.

Ivan

Clockwork Angels!

BRIAN MILLER

One Size Fits All is one of my favorite albums. Definitely voting for it. [ A bit confused as to why the text of the post mentions The Grand Wazoo, a different Zappa album that is not among the poll options ]

Illume Eltanin

Oh. My. Stars... What choices! I'm not a fan of Zappa, although he's a fabulous musician. But the other four? You're killing me in making me choose, Dr. Doug!

Great Scott

I'm sorry,, but it's got to be Pictures -- a masterwork of ELP. Who else could rockify great music by the masters? Doug could compare to the score of the original works to see how close they came, or go back and forth, play ELP, play the orchestra version of the original (What was that, Ravel doing Mussorgsky, IIRC?)

Brian Brylow

Despite all of the 70’s masterpieces. Neal Morse created something truly essential with Simultitude Of A Dream.

Jason Gregorius

One size was my intro to FZ and I haven’t looked back!!

Bill C

Maybe the easiest vote for me yet. Similitude of a Dream is maybe my favorite album from the entire last decade.

Bikonito

I really hope Similitude wins!!!

bobj

Quite an eclectic lineup of albums. All are interesting and any one will do, but of course I had to picked one. Actually, ALL of these should be reacted to at some point. Dr. Doug, I guess you’ll just use this input to put them in the order from most votes to least to do all of them. :-)

Sian Podmore

No fair! All of the above :D

Walking the Path with Chris Ramsbottom

I was about to vote for ELP but then I saw Queen... but I still voted for ELP because I don't really think Night at the Opera has stood the test of nearly 50 years I'm afraid. Plus the fact that "Pictures at an Exhibition" is such a timely thing to talk about.

Justin Humberger

OMG, THIS right here is the video I hoped to one day see by becoming a supporter, The Similitude!!! I pray that album wins this poll. Wow that would be so epic!

hrafhraf

One size fits all is in last place? Your audience is a bunch of yuppie squares.

Thijs Bollen

That would be Pictures. But Doug, I haven't seen none Purple/Blackmore so far. Please do the Concerto '69 video version, sure you will enjoy it. Then the Italian prog scene. There is a lot, both old and new, but maybe Di terra from Banco del mutuo soccorso is a good start.

Sugar Mouse

Rush's Clockwork Angels for me. Gotta be one of the best final albums by a band. It's so good.

Alexandra

ELP....definitely ✨️💖✨️

John Clark

John Lord's Gemini Suite still sounds wonderful after more than 50 years.

Steve MacArthur

I hate to be a stick in the mud, but I think it's way past time for Mr. Richard Wakeman to be elevated beyond his sideman work (awesome as it may be). When you think about the nascent period of prog and the embracing of the concept album, it's been too long - all hail the caped wonder!

Bryan Sheehan

I'm rooting for One Size Fits All. Great album.

Adam Borowa

Am new here. How about Genesis Duke suite?

Itsfun2listen

The 2016 remaster is remarkable, the keyboards and drums are awesome compared to the original

Eusebio R-Z

Pictures at an Exhibition is a brilliant album although EL&P did a very personal interpretation that, for someone who loves the original music it may be an excessive departure at some points. Doug, we're not playing pranks on you with our selections, first listens can be tricky, there are great albums that may need listening to them more than once to properly appreciate (e.g., Crime of the Century) and there are great albums where a song or two are "less satisfactory" but are still worth a good listen because of the other songs (e.g., it happened in Houses of the Holy, and I think it may happen again in Pictures at an Exhibition)

Patholas

Agh! Too many that I want to hear Doug's views on... please make sure that all of these that don't make the vote this time have another slot next time! :-)

Jim Reeves

I have a feeling that Doug may have a hard time notating the section of Keith's solo when he is jabbing knives in the Hammond!

David Crossen

Pictures at an Exhibition is far from ELPs best work.

Itsfun2listen

ELP, Frank Zappa, Queen and Rush on the same list - hard choice. People shouldn’t be allowed to change their votes though, as it allows people to upvote something that generally not many others want.

Andrew Mellor

I think it's great that we get a mix of albums in these extended sessions. Most would agree that the seventies was a sweet spot for prog and classic rock, but there are really good albums from this century that deserve a listen. I'm sure Doug has probably has enough material for several years yet. Maybe alternating the recognised [note the correct spelling please!] classics with newer material would please most, and allow many of us to discover new bands. As a perspective -PAAE was the first album I ever bought in the early seventies.
