In the previous EPL, we took a look at Rush and their Moving Pictures (1981). Before that, we listened to Rick Wakeman's Six Wives of Henry VIII (1973). I loved both of them! This time, though, I'm looking to dive into a newer recording, so, I've chosen potential albums that were released after 2000. The list of bands and musicians here represent some of my personal favorite "finds" since I've been doing The Daily Doug. Happy voting! This episode will drop around the first of June.

Walking the Path with Chris Ramsbottom

Have voted for Steven Wilson as I'm looking forward to seeing whether Doug can explain to me if his music is any good. I've tried, believe me I've tried, with this guy, but the only song that I consider good enough to play again is "Nowhere, Now".

After just seeing nightwish live, their human nature album is my favorite. Would love to see your take on it, especially the ending suite. SW is a great pick as well :)

Arrow2theACL

Aquarius is by far my favorite album of all time. The album is a wonderful concept album so I think it will fit perfect with a EPL. Lovely orchestrations, all types of influences including Frank Zappa, Yes, Gentle Giant as well as modern bands like Dream Theater and Messugah.

Andrew Clark

It’s gotta be Haken. I love Steven Wilson, and Hand Cannot Erase is the best album he’s ever done, but Haken is just so perfect. Aquarius is one of their weaker albums imo but that’s only because they have so many bangers.

Jean-Michel LaFontaine

Aquarius is probably my favorite but Haken has been covered quite a bit on this channel. Interested in Doug's take on the HCE album from strat to finish, because it is one of those albums you have to listen all the way through to really get it.

Bill C

Hand. Cannot. Erase. is my favorite album of the options, but I'm more interested in seeing Doug react to Aquarius so that got my vote. I'll be pretty happy either way!

Toby

I was planning to vote for either Pain of Salvation or Steven Wilson. Now I see PoS is out, I vote for SW. Wonderful album! Still hoping for a quick return for PoS on the channel, though.

Nick

Oh man, how the hell do I decide?!

Richard Karbowski

Nice to see you dipping into some newer stuff. Mmy opinion is that there has been a ton of truly classic albums released since 2000 (a couple of examples); Phideaux-Doomsday Afternoon IQ-The Road of Bones Ange- Moyen-Age (or anything else by them since 2000, honestly) Seven Steps To The Green Door-Fetish

MrWondrous David Beckwith

Whatever it is, don't let it be males growling or screaming or being aggressive, because that is low class, inasmuch as it violates the understatement principle.

Glenn Wimberly

Secretly I would love to hear Be but would be hard to break it down with so many short songs plus figuring out all the little meanings.

Richard Rathbun

Would have loved to see a Riverside selection here, but happily voted for SW, of course!

ax o'lotl

I love me some Haken but HCE has to get my vote... it's a scarily interesting album and we'll get to experience Regret #9 with TWO of the greatest solos ever recorded, keyboard and guitar. Guthrie Govan's solo is one for the ages.

Wakelyn

still hoping for BE to make a comeback! it's probably pain of salvation's best album, and i've never really liked steven wilson.

ArTi

There is nothing for me on this list, but thank you for the two previous ones, and it's a good thing you try to keep it balanced between the old stuff and the new. See you on another occasion :)

Jamie Mellway

I found the channel with the initial Steven Wilson and Tool reactions. "Hand. Cannot. Erase" is Wilson's strongest. He toured it twice is it so strong. The second time it was along with 4½ and they played "Hand. Cannot. Erase" in its entirety in order with Ninet Tayeb.

Marc La Porte

Thanks for putting Steven Wilson on the list. Hope it makes it!

Michael Strawn

Hand Cannot Erase is the best album by either Porcupine Tree or Steven Wilson so I truly hope that wins. Just pure brilliance from beginning to end. Among my top five albums of the 21st century.

Daniel Andrews

HCE is a great one! However, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed to one day see BE win as it is amongst my favorite albums!

Justin Humberger

I can't wait until he dives into more Pain of Salvation. IMO, Daniel Gildenlow is the best lyricist alive in modern progressive rock, and arguably the best vocalist. He has such a way with words like no other. Even if you don't listen to his music, you can read his lyrics like poetry, but the music added on top just takes it to a whole new level.

Justin Humberger

Can someone explain why BE is the chosen album from PoS and not Remedy Lane? How did that happen?

Itsfun2listen

Hand Cannot Erase is a masterpiece, maybe can include the 4 1/2 EP as well, some great work that was dropped off the main release

H.C.E is a true masterwork. I’ve been listening to prog for going on 50 years and I figured, at this point, no newer album would make it into my top 10 – but this one sure did. One of the best concept albums I’ve come across. Both the music and the story. And, for the cherry on top, I was able to pick up the super-deluxe version multi-disc version. Probably the best packaging I’ve seen for a single album release. All of the extras found in the “coffee table” sized book really helped to get inside the story. The whole project is just stunning. P.S. another newer album that made my top 10 is Richard Henshall's "The Cocoon". Definitely worth checking out.

I think Marillion has done a masterful job with AHBID. Their sound has evolved over the years. But I still like them for the same reason I did 40 years ago. Beautiful music, and heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics. A warm hug in times of turmoil for me.

Einaras Sipavičius

Sadly BE won't win, it is a long time since Doug reacted to Pain of Salvation. Nevertheless, Hand. Cannot. Erase. deservedly won the public vote, it is a very good album.
