OK...the next episode in our Extended Play Lounge series is coming up soon. I'm coming off of Aquarius by Haken (which I very much enjoyed) as a Doug's Choice. So, we're going back to our normal polling.

And, for this poll, I decided to choose several A-List Bands and Albums that have received many votes in the community against each other.

This poll will be active through September 15. Happy Voting!

So many good options. I decided to vote for Rumours, Fleetwood Mac has less coverage on the channel compared with other bands in the poll.

Great Scott

Hmm. if early results are an indication, KC may eventually get it, but I really hope JT can win out in the end. All of them would be great choices, though...

BRIAN MILLER

Two of my all time favorites are Discipline and Minstrel in the Gallery. How to choose? I hope you get to all of these eventually, but for now I think I will vote for Discipline as it is a bit different from things you have listened to before.

Richard Moore

Minstrel in the Gallery is near perfection. Discipline would be a close second.

Aaron West

Going with Quadrophenia. Great concept album.

Bill C

Quadrophenia for me

Ald

I hope next month the astonishing make it to the poll

Christopher Arters (relative timeworx - Mr.A)

All top tier albums... but the one that stands out as something totally unique and demanding attention is Discipline. This era of KC was singular in every aspect. Not that KC was EVER conventional, but what they created here had no contemporary comparison.

Geoff Bailie

I love all of the albums. The one I’d be most interested on Doug’s take on is Deep Purple/ Jon Lord’s Concerto for Group & Orchestra. Saw a fantastic live performance of this featuring Jon several years before he passed away

Ewald Bal

Wow! Doug and King Crimson? Could that be happening? Can't wait for that one !!!

Richard Plante

Definitely Quadrophenia! Can even do vinyl, I wonder if Doug’s copy came with the original booklet?

Doc Farmer

I never even knew Deep Purple had DONE a concerto! Listening to it now, and I'd love to hear an analysis (a la Piano Concerto No. 1 by Emerson).

Matthew Hackbert

really going to make me pick between Quadrophenia and Minstrel...oh dear

Dave Brockis

I'm for Rumours. I know that it doesn't stretch the listener as much as the other choices, but the song writing on this album is of the top order. I'd love to hear the in-depth Doug analysis of what makes one of the most popular albums ever.

Jethro Hards

Discipline is a fantastic album, deffo my choice

Mark Brennan

Didn't I see DIscipline was reviewed before? I remember thinking that I really loved "Elephant Talk" from that album, and was going to go back and look to see. KC is a great band, and this is one of their better albums, but RED is my choice, as I think it is their best one. Rumours doesn't appear to be getting a lot of love here, but it is the most interesting album here, imho, even though (in spite, of, almost) its great popularity. Sometimes, 50 million people are NOT wrong, are they? Only a very few albums reach the level of a Rumours. The reasons are complex (and I've written about it before on other fora) but it's just a fluke of timing and very great talent. But that talent can be missed completely (or partially, at least) unless one knows about the crucible that created this particular masterwork. (Most masterworks are forged in some kind of crucible or another.) And that story is a long, and mostly sorrowful one, that I shan't recount here, except to say that Rumours really started out when Fleetwood Mac was an all-English blues band whose lead guitarist, Peter Green, was considered better than Eric Clapton at the time by none other than B.B. King, who had met them both in the mid-60s while on tour. And that story started in the early 60s with John Mayall's Blues Breakers. All of this is only meant to say that while prog bands like KC have almost too much talent, bands like Fleetwood Mac are even more powerful (as per sales and critical reviews, often) than prog, which can easily take itself too seriously and become a self-parody. (I'm just asyin...)

Colin Heath

OK, so I'm a newish member, so not sure how voting works. I've selected a choice, but is that all I need to do? There doesn't seem to be a submit or send button. I'm a Doug Club member. Do I need to go to a higher level to be able to register a vote?

Blinky

What a stacked poll. Some of my favorite albums all on one list.

Mikael Forsström

Fleetwood Mac's Rumours is an underestimated masterpiece. I hope for a Doug reaction to it. If not this time, then soon.

Frits van Voorst

Discipline is one of the quintessential albums in the KC discography of studio albums. Together with their first, Red and their last: The Power To Believe. From their live albums, USA also stands out for me. Especially the Asbury Park improvisation: a real gem (in the original ‘short’ version as presented on the original issue. The decision to cut it there was a good one. The last part of the piece, which is added on later issues of the album lacks the strength of the main body in my opinion). Good to see that Discipline gets a lot of votes.

Ron Swirson

Discipline is a wonderful record and I love it BUT Quadrophenia is the album Doug needs to hear at this stage of his channel. He needs a break from the complex stuff and needs some pure bluesy sophisticated rock music for him and us to enjoy. Quadrophenia is superb from start to finish and I mean that literally. The start and especially the finish are stellar and iconic. Entwistle's bass playing is off the charts on this record in particular because of the 4 personalities the central character has which are being represented on the disc by the 4 musicians in the band. Most people think of Tommy before Quadrophenia but Quadrophenia is eons better than Tommy. Tommy is better known because it was the first album dubbed as a "rock opera" but honestly, second time is the charm here. So I hope Quadrophenia is chosen, BESIDES he just bought the LP so there's another reason to do Quadrphenia!

Anthony Taylor

Discipline - that record stands alone at the top of progressive greatness!

seth cohen

In the minority here, but Minstrel is the last great Tull rock album. Fantastic heavy bombast, gorgeous acoustic pieces, Dee Palmer's masterful strings, engrossing lyrics, and a multi-section suite at the end. This has the best song arc of all the albums here IMHO. Doug, if this album doesn't win the poll, you really owe it to yourself to give it a go some other time.

Paul Halicki

Quadrophenia is one of the very finest rock albums ever made. Doug needs to ignore the poll results if any other choice wins.

Randy Hammill

Well, Minstrel in the Gallery is an often overlooked album and one of my favorites (and also among Ian's best performances). But Discipline is also a must listen. Plus you have the score for the entire album. But I'm voting for Minstrel in the hopes it will come in second so it will show up again sooner rather than later...

Jojojojo

These selections aren't fair because they're all too good. Quadrophenia is the choice though.

Olavi Lorenz Jussi

Very interested in seeing Doug's reaction to Discipline.

Ray Sincere

Discipline beats Quadrophenia? Really?

Max Eliaser

Discipline is the right call.

Dave Cohen

Minstrel in the Gallery!
