For our next Extended Play Lounge, I'm returning to our Master List and selecting some progressive rock albums from the 1970s that have high numbers of recommendations.

For ELP: I only know Take a Pebble and Lucky Man

For GG: I've only heard The Advent of Panurge & Knots

For Jethro Tull: I don't know any songs from this album

For Kansas: I think I only know Dust in the Wind

For Supertramp: I think I only know Take the Long Way Home.

The voting will go through Monday. Vote for your favorite! Happy voting!

The 1st time I heard fanfare for the common man was in 1976 in a documentary featuring Aaron Copeland. My father passed away that day. ELP does it justice I still have a tough time listening without crying my eyes out.

Karl Stubsjoen

Doug: You should listen to "Fanfare for the Common Man". There is a live performance, in winter, from Olympic Stadium Montreal 1977, which is tremendous!!! A real blast (from the past) as it were. This is the best version I have listened to and watched.

Kevin Marcinek

Hope you can do Breakfast in America at some point even if it doesn't win. Awesome album with great songwriting

Tom

Kansas vs Jethro Tull, why not ask me which pet I can keep

Great Scott

ELP and Minstrel are neck and neck. Either works for me...

Dave Cohen

I hope the choice is Minstrel. I think that you will LOVE it.

seth cohen

Minstrel is absolutely wonderful. Jethro Tull at the top of their game.

Stop Propaganda

Masque from Kansas is a much better choice. Thanks Doug!

Nick

EPLs are always a tough choice, but it's Supertramp for me...

Moses Talbot

These are ALL great choices! How am I supposed to pick just one?

Jeff

Can you add the all of them choice so we can pick that? I won’t be mad about whichever wins.

John W Orsborn

ELP Trilogy album changed my life, Endless Enigma and Trilogy are great pieces.

Frank Bernard

We really need Kansas to win!!!!

David Edinborough

THE MINSTREL IIIIN THE GAAAAALLLERRYYYYY, LOOKED DOWN UPON THE SMIIIIIILING FAAA-CES!

Bernie

OMG, what a choice. Cruel. Took minstrel, as - if you don't do it, nobody else will be qualified for a decent composer reaction...

Bill Coonley

"Point Of Know Return", if only for the song "Hopelessly Human"!

Jim Bowden

In a high school obsessed with Led Zeppelin Aqualung, Thick As A Brick and Minstrel In The Gallery were my go to albums.

BRIAN MILLER

I have often listed Minstrel in the Gallery as my favorite album, or at least in my top 5. I am pretty sure I was the one who was pushing the most for it to be an EPL, so of course I have to vote for it now....

John Patoch

When this came out sold on ELP

Dan Noyes

Gentle Giant is the obvious choice here although, I'd take a targeted review/analysis of "Knife Edge" from the ELP album over all of them

Matthew Hackbert

What a great problem to have that i don't know how to choose between these...

Richard Moore

I love all of these...I think Minstrel in the Gallery is a near-perfect album. Every song on it is a gem.

Edward Wright

ELP is probably my favorite here, but I've heard it SOOOO many times. I would have voted for "Left Overture" if it was a choice. With so many good choices, it comes down to a subjective call. I landed on Supertramp

Luciano Paciornick

I really, really hope Minstrel in the Gallery wins this! It's a wonderful, underrated and underappreciated album. You'll be in for quite the treat. 🙂

Richard Rathbun

Great choices here! I think Doug will love Minstrel.

Einaras Sipavičius

Despite GG being recently covered in Behind The Score, I voted for Octopus. Gentle Giant is my top3 band, Octopus is my top3 album by them, so I couldn't resist. Actually, Gentle Giant never had a proper EPL (Free Hand was a daily episode on Youtube). Minstrel In The Gallery is in the leading position and I'm also happy about it. It's arguably my favorite JT album. It's their most eclectic one, but that's why it's so appealing and intriguing to me. ELP, Kansas, Supertramp – all great. Maybe for the next time ;)

Ray Sincere

I think Supertramp had four hits on that album. At least, that's what I remember being played on the radio. "Goodbye Stranger", "The Logical Song", "Breakfast in America", and "Take the Long Way Home". Wikipedia concurs, although apparently the song "Breakfast in America" didn't make it especially far up the charts. In any case, this album really made it big.

Eusebio R-Z

EPL, EL&P... oh well, if not now hopefully soon!

Blinky

Minstrel is so great. Ian has just divorced and this album feels the most personal he ever got as a songwriter. Less ironic detachment.

bobj

Long-time fan of all. Any one will do!

Alex Libia

Love to see Doug react to 'A Passion Play' There is such a mixed feeling amongst JT fans regarding this album. Would love his take on it. Personally, I think it's brilliant
