It's time for a poll for our next Extended Play Lounge Episode. After starting the year with a poll of newer albums...then a very competitive poll of 70's prog albums, we're turning our attention this time to Jazz Fusion albums. Pick your preferred favorite among these five contenders!

I don't know any of the content on the Ponty & Mahavishnu albums. I know small bits of the Miles Davis album. And, I've only heard the title track from RTF...and I only know Birdland from Weather Report.

Happy voting! (This poll will be active through Wednesday, February 1.)

Si

My god, if Bitches Brew wins I think it will be Doug's greatest achievement!

Eric F.

Just wanted to say that Birds of Fire is my favorite Mahavishnu. ;)

Gage Balck

I’m honestly cool with all of these!

Gary Thobaben

Heavy Weather has a track - A Remark You Made - that you will love, harmonically.

Barry P

A difficult choice for those of us that love Miles, John, Chick, and Wayne in equal measure.

Richard Moore

Bitches Brew is probably my favorite of these, but today I am feeling more like Weather Report, especially since I haven't given them a listen in a long age, so that's how I voted. Any of them will be satisfying.

Andreas C Georgi

Oh, you're killing me! I love all these albums!

Andreas C Georgi

Voted for Cosmic Messenger because I am less familiar with it. Basically know all the others by heart.

Dave Brockis

I can’t say I know much about jazz fusion, but I’m up for some education. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard any Miles Davis and I feel that I really should, so that’s where my vote is going.

Wade Markham

I believe John MacLaughlin and Chick Corea played on this album. If we are going to do some Jazz Fusion, we need to listen to Avant-Prog and Rock in Opposition, please.

Great Scott

I'm pretty sure JLP Cosmic Messenger is one I've listened to frequently and thoroughly enjoy. Isn't WR's Heavy Weather the one with Birdland on it? That would be my second choice - yes it is, and that's also great.

Richard Rathbun

Hard to go wrong, here! Don't mind a bit that BB is winning so far, but voted for RTF because I'm such an Al DiMeola fan. But a pure jazz album would be a first and a wonderful listen!

Illume Eltanin

Figures my vote is currently in last place. Hopefully Ponty will get another chance if he doesn't make a come back.

I’ve seen 3 of the 5 in concert multiple times and am sorry I never saw the other 2. So, as you may figure, any will do for me, but I’m partial to RTF, because Chick Corea was my first concert. All the musicians in all of these bands deserve to be here and should all be featured on an EPL eventually. Happy voting!

Bill Coonley

All fantastic choices, but I'm going for Weather Report. Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Apocalypse" would be a good future subject, if only for the symphonic nature.

Einaras Sipavičius

Voted for Birds of Fire, I have this on CD, it's as good as The Inner Mounting Flame. I was also tempted to vote for Cosmic Messenger, that's a very fine album. That title track is legendary. Actually, every option in this poll is great, won't be upset if either wins.

Christopher Arters (relative timeworx - Mr.A)

of course, all great albums but we have lacked that Jean-Luc Ponty vibe around here. GQ-smooth fusion. The ethereal quality of the title track... The frantic run up to Egocentric Molecules... c'mon folks - jump on with me, you will definitely enjoy.

Bill Oboczky

I would have preferred Black Market to Heavy Weather as a Weather Report selection...just personal preference, they are both seminal albums

Thom P

There are nothing but great choices here. Any one would be an excellent listen, but I would be very happy to see Bitches Brew win!

Donald Holloway

There lots of great choices so I won’t be disappointed no matter which record wins, but Miles Davis Bitches Brew was the major step in jazz fusion.

James Keleher

Happy to see Jean Luc Ponty, Jean Michel Jarre and Alan Parsons Project on the schedule.
