Hi y'all,

After hearing some Led Zeppelin again in the latest Fan Favorites, I thought that it's past time to get to some more LZ in the Extended Play Lounge. I'm really interested in the band's approach to rhythm and their overall sound...and I'm eager to give Robert Plant more chances to impress me. :)

I listened to Houses of the Holy in Episode 13. I've listed the band's other 5 top albums (by sales...in order). Choose the one you think I should listen to next.

Physical Graffiti has a certain feel that the other don't.

Kevin Marcinek

IV is obviously legendary, but it's gotta be Physical Grafitti. Their magnum opus in my opinion and such a wide gamut of songs.

simon fraser

Physical Graffiti is a brilliant album. What I would give to listen to that album again for the first time.

Frits van Voorst

Black dog, Rock and roll, The battle of Evermore, When the levee breaks, IV it is.

Richard Moore

Physical Graffiti. Best known for Kashmir, but there are also some phenomenal deep cuts on this album: In the Light, Bron-y-Aur, Ten Years Gone, Down by the Seaside...the list goes on.

Ross Pollack

Tough call for me between IV and Physical Graffiti. But I think Plant’s vocals are better on the fourth album, so I’m picking that one. Also, there are interesting meters on Black Dog and Misty Mountain Hop that I’d like to hear Doug analyze.

Gil Rios

People here are sleeping on the first and second album. I'd argue that those are Led Zeppelin's best albums in my opinion; however, I'm not mad at the Physical Graffiti or fourth album pick.

Bryan Tursk

My first Zep album was 4... I think it will come down to 4 or PG in survey. I however, voted for 1... I think with this band... Start from the begining and slowly work through the albums would be cool.

Estefanía Sucre

I hope that, in time, you can do them all, Doug. They're all really good!

Gary Thobaben

Picked the double album so Doug has even more time to shake his head at Robert Plant

Anderson Davies

Physical Graffiti. Double Album. Double Length. Double Doug ☺️. And it has fantastical songs in it of all length. Vote for Kashmir and Bron-Yr-Aur!

Tom Brophy

Physical Graffiti just gets better with age.

Brian Pate

I would have picked the first album as I had that in 1969 when it came out and it is my favorite unto today but I chose IV as that really put them on another stage.

Richard Elliott

Physical Graffiti defo just for Kashmir alone and hope you enjoy Doug

Great Scott

I would have preferred In Through The Out Door myself, as it has Carouselambra on it.

Matthew Hackbert

Ez vote for me. III. It has the best quality deep tracks by percentage for me. PG is *really* close for me though. In the Light is *chef's kiss*.

James Keleher

How did "Houses of the Holy" not make the list with 'No Quarter', 'The Rain Song', and 'The Song Remains the Same'? My favorite Led Zeppelin songs are: 'Kashmir'; 'No Quarter', and 'Stairway to Heaven'.

Sid Levy

If I was on a island with one Zeppelin LP, it would have to be Physical Graffiti. It covers the depth and breath of entire catalog up to this point. Take a bong hit and drop the needle.

Rick Morse

100% agree with Sid Levy! Compositionally it contains what sounds to be more "mature" music as compared their previous albums, Plant's voice is not quite as shrill as it was when he was younger, yet the album still distinctly sounds like Led Zeppelin. "In the Light" and "Kashmir" are my two all-time favorite LZ songs.

kmach1ne

I think Led Zeppelin IV is their most complete album, not a bad song on there. That said, 1 and 2 aren't far behind. 3 and PG have a couple great songs but the entirety of those albums don't compare to 1, 2 or 4...imo.

George Davis-Stewart

You'd need to ask my brother about this - they were more his vintage than mine. I like songs here and there but I'm not enough of a purist to be excited by them for the duration of a whole album. LZ IV gets nearest to staying on the turntable to the end.

Eusebio R-Z

The next time around that LZ comes up for a poll I hope we'll have choices for The Song Remains the Same and for In Through The Out Door

TheTenngoat

I chose IV because it IS their quintessential album. More people know who LZ is BECAUSE of that album. One may argue if it is their best work. But it is for sure the album that firmly put them on the map. Plus, it is the one that I wore out listening to all through high school. HAHAHA.

Jake Vogt

Physical Graffiti is gonna be the most rewarding option by far. IV is also full of good stuff of course, but the most interesting track is Stairway, which we can safely assume Doug is fairly familiar with, and PG is longer and much more surprising. Looking forward to it either way.

Phil West Music

Gotta be the tenement! Ten Years Gone is a superb song, combining beautiful airy chords, wistful lyrics, and screaming guitar. Robert Plant sounds best in songs like this, where he’s not going 100mph in his falsetto, though it is there of course.

Ray Sincere

Physical Graffiti, the album that was left off the poll last time, and would have had a good chance of winning if it had been included. Now is its chance.

Einaras Sipavičius

III for me, easily. Their best songwriting and most intricate sound is on that album. IV is okay, but lower for me. I and II have some strange blues/hard rock tracks I don't enjoy. And Physical Graffiti is a good three sided album, not four, suffers from several really unnecessary tracks.

John Clark

Physical Graffiti is far and away their most complete work as far as I am concerned and it gets my vote. LZ IV is probably their best known album and it contains the arguably equally as good as Stairway to Heaven song The Battle of Evermore which features the late Sandy Denny in the only duet LZ ever recorded. Lyrically it's straight out of The Lord of the Rings which I was reading for the first time shortly after IV was released so a double whammy of wonderfulness for me.

Earnest Bass

Physical Gravity is also a double album ;)

Ray Sincere

Looking at the poll, I see Physical Graffiti is leading with 43% of the vote. Last time we did one of these polls, Houses of the Holy won with 49%. So it looks like Physical Graffiti might not have beaten Houses of the Holy after all.

Richard Rathbun

Led Zep II is still my all-time favorite Zep album but I voted for Physical Graffiti because I wanna see Doug do a double-album of Led Zeppelin -- and because it covers more ground than does LZ II.

Einaras Sipavičius

I think that's not comparable. That first poll didn't have Physical Graffiti. I can imagine PG fans liking HotH a lot, so they caused a voting bias. I'm still baffled how HotH won that time, but I believe this is the only reasonable explanation of that. And now HotH is out of the equation. And if PG fans are in general HotH fans, that might not work out the other way. I expect HotH fans to choose IV more often in this poll. And that also explains why IV has 32% this time and 26% in the first poll.

Lol that's a lot of Robert Plant for Doug if PG wins 😆

Bill Brinkmoeller

I'm hoping, really, that anything BUT IV wins. I'm trying desperately to keep the promise that I made to myself to never hear "Stairway to Heaven" again for the rest of my life. I'm thinking that even a critical analysis from Doug couldn't save this turkey.

Earnest Bass

I am with you, friend! However, it is through YT reactions that I was able to listen to it again. Not that I want my vote to lose, but I hope you will find a cure!

Shane Allder

I’m a huge PG fan and I’m baffled how HotH won also, it just seems like a weaker album compared to the rest

Steve Hartke

Love IV, but III is the one to go with, an eclectic mix, showcasing a wide variety of styles.

twinklepop

We need another Moodies album doug 🙏🏻 perhaps to our children's children's children. or a question of balance. both wonderful sounds with individuality from each member being a key highlight
