Hi friends.

This month, for our Fan Favorites video, I'm trying something new. I've gone back through all of our Fan Favorites Patreon Polls, looking for songs that originally didn't receive enough votes to earn a spot on that month's video. And, I've selected eight tracks that I haven't yet heard that I'm quite interested in hearing.

I didn't go back and check from whom the recommendations came. These selections are simply the ones that sparked my musical curiosity the most.

Here's the list (not yet in any order)...

- Diamonds and Rust (Joan Baez)

- Easter (Marillion)

- River Down Below (Riverside)

- All Along the Watchtower (cover by Bear McCreary)

- The Flood (live) - Leprous

- Emerald (Thin Lizzy)

- Bless the Beasts and the Children (The Carpenters)

- Jurassic Shift - Ozric Tentacles

I know it’s not typical for you, but I wonder if you’d be interested in focusing that immense listening and interpreting skill onto comparing different covers of specific tunes ( my first thought was ‘Wichita Lineman - Glen Campbell & the Clouds Cover or Hit me Baby one more time -Spears / Fountains of Wayne )

Robert McGrath

I own a couple Ozric Tentacles albums, Jurassic Shift being my favorite. That would be my vote.

Karl Stubsjoen

I’m trying as hard as I can to promote ELP “Fanfare for The Common Man” from Montreal Stadium. That’s a classic. Maybe next time 😎👏🏻

I would be cool if you listened to the Judas Priest cover of Diamonds and Rust after listening to Joan Baez. If you did, I would recommend the version from Unleashed in the East.

Carlos Regidor Iglesias

Easter by Marillion. I would love you to listen to Brave as a full album.

Leprous and Riverside I mean these are all great selections, but those two are some of my favorites. Doug, I know you don't dig too much into lyrics for FF reactions, but I highly recommend at least one pass for The River Down Below before starting. Lyrics make the song for me.

Ross Pollack

"Emerald" is a great representation of Thin Lizzy's twin guitar attack. The Jailbreak album is a classic.

Digibirder

“Easter” has one of the greatest prog guitar solos. An absolute masterpiece. The whole song is a brilliant work of art.

Jozo

Yes Leprous! My 2nd favorite of theirs as well. Looking forward to seeing your reaction :)

Richard Elliott

One of my favourite Lizzy tracks from the great Jailbreak album

Matthew Hackbert

I'm so glad my 2-time Emerald submission is finally making it to Doug's ears! in addition to that, this will be a baller FF video

Ian Swank

The Carpenters are a guilty pleasure of mine. Not sure how guilty I should feel though, Karen Carpenter had such a beautiful voice.

Ray Sincere

So glad that my Carpenters pick made the cut. That was a very personal pick for me.

Phil Sparkes

Either Marillion's "Easter" or Thin Lizzy's "Emerald"

Dave Brockis

I'm looking forward to Jurassic Shift, but I'm shocked they made the cut before Hawkwind.

Matthew Hackbert

I think many folks here misunderstand. All of these are going into the video. There is no vote this time.

if you do diamonds and rust, please whatever you do at least comment on Priest's Unleashed in the East version. For some of us metalheads that is the definitive version, and at the very least it's a monumental statement (they really really made it their own, and to this day it's a permanent part of their setlist). Don't need to listen to it, just read a bit about it, consider it for later perhaps, just saying it's like All Along the Watcher by Dylan, you know Hendrix is going to be part of the discussion.

"Easter", like the rest of "Season's End", is a great choice! Doug, PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE consider "Berlin", "The King of Sunset Town" or "Seasons' End" from the same album by one of the most underrated prog bands ever. "Emerald" is another superb choice! I saw Thin Lizzy play this live in Leicester in 1976, and it was superb!

Neale Brassell

Easter is an awesome choice... of course, it'll just make me long for hearing Season's End and The Space from the same album!

Jean-Michel LaFontaine

Glad that Riverside made your cut! I saw them live in March and loved it! Mariusz Duda, the bassist/vocalist, is also one funny entertainer!

Mark J Moerman

A delightfully wide-ranging set of tunes! It'll be all over the map, which can be loads of fun.

Donald Holloway

Joan Baez Diamonds and Rust. It such a great song.

Nick

That's a great selection. Should be another fun FF...

Trevor Cotterell

Of those, Emerald. Iconic, even if I'm not the world's biggest thin Lizzy fan!

Bill Brinkmoeller

A really eclectic mix! Should make for a fascinating listen.

Jack R.

All good. My choice would be Jurassic Shift. I'm partial to Ozric Tentacles
