Hi y'all!

We're packing up our things today in Kentucky and heading home tomorrow. Once I get through the weekend, it will be time for our next Extended Play Lounge. And, I'm making this poll a big one. Here's the top five vote-getting submissions for the EPL that we currently have on the master list (excluding band duplications). I've heard some of each of these albums, but not everything in context. So, pick your favorite!

ELP - I've heard Take a Pebble and Lucky Man

Rush - I know Xanadu and Cygnus X1

Genesis - I know Firth of Fifth, Epping Forest, and Cinema Show

Gentle Giant - I know Panurge and Knots

Pink Floyd - I know Pow R. Toc H. and Bike

Please, please! Not always the big(ger) names. Rush and Genesis had their way to Doug often enough now. Gentle Giant is very interesting to analyse and there can be learned a lot from these guys!

Why Selling England... If you had 3 out of 4 Songs already (pretty nicely) done. The rest is simply not enough for your extended sessions here. Choose your normal YT channel for the missing bits, or ar least for the one long song missing. If you want to do an (to you) unknown "Genesis"-Album, then choose *cough* Marillion's "Script For a Jester's Tear" 😁🥴...or "Fugazi" where they already started fleeing away from that sound...but you havent done Fish in his absolute prime.

Ruth James

Spoilt for choice on this one !

Ruth James

You know how much you love Firth of Fifth Doug, as do I🙂👌

Frank H

You've done essential tracks of Selling England by the Pound, but not essential tracks of the first (and IMHO best) ELP.

Jim Reeves

Torn between ELP & Octopus, had to flip a coin

Matthew Hackbert

This is a tough poll to be sure. I'm going with ELP because I adore The Barbarian and Knife Edge, in addition to what Doug has heard already. That Rush album is top 3 Rush for me so it would have been my second choice. I certainly cannot fault folks that want SEBTP, and while I do think some of the rest, like Dancing with the Moonlit Knight and I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe), can be pulled out to the YT for later, I *do* think SEBTP as an album is worth it __for Doug__ since tracks like After the Ordeal and Aisle of Plenty give greater context to the album, but do not stand well as individual tracks.

Why so much Prog Rock ?

Gary Thobaben

EVEN though you’ve heard big hitters from Selling England, it’s worth a front to back listen. And also I want to listen to it again!

Eric Warner

Hoping to see XTC's "Skylarking" on the EPL list soon!

Michael Knies

I think Doug would appreciate Octopus. It is a musically adventurous album and Doug hasn’t done much GG.

Mark J Moerman

The real answer is "all of the above"!!

Richard Moore

Tough one, since these are all great! I went with Gentle Giant.

Max Eliaser

I voted for Gentle Giant since this band is a little underrepresented compared to the others. But the Rush and Floyd could get my vote in a different lineup.

Jean-Michel LaFontaine

All of these albums are great. I voted for Genesis just because, to me, it is their best album ever. Selling England needs to be heard from start to finish to really grasp its genius. The 4 others will get their turn I'm sure.

Mark Brennan

I concur with most everyone here. Doug, just do them all! But, since I had to choose, I did, and wasn't suprised that (again) what I chose was trailing the poll the most. So not expecting to "win," I pulled the lever for Piper At The Gates Of Dawn - just because Doug should be introduced to Pink Floyd's primary founder: Syd Barrett.

Gentle Giant will never win a poll against vastly more popular bands like Genesis and Rush, which is a great shame as Octopus (and indeed the vast majority of their discography) is well worthy of the EPL treatment.

Mr D Jones

was hoping to see Brave by Marillion in that list... But voted for Genesis as it's an album I really like.

Tom (the soggy one)

Octopus is an awesome album, but I've been dying for Doug's take on ELP's self-titled album, especially the 'Three Fates' suite. Oh, well...

Richard Elliott

What a choice but in the end I had to go for one of my favourite albums from the Peter Gabriel Genesis era. I hope you enjoy Doug 👍

Nick

I know Doug's done the big songs from SEBTP already, but it'll be really interesting to hear reactions to them in the context of the rest of the album, because there are recurring puns and lyrical ideas that make more sense in a whole-album listen.

Tom Brophy

I was a little surprised to see Farewell to Kings. I figured after Moving Pictures I was excited for you to move into the 80’s Rush which was polarizing for fans in the musical direction they went. But, there is time.
