During my high school years (1991-1995), I was mostly listening to sports radio, NPR, classical, and singer-songwriter classics. While I've listened to quite a bit of hard rock and metal on YouTube, I don't do it as often here on Patreon. Well, this time, I'm going back to my high school years to hear one of the great hard rock/grunge/metal albums released during that period.

I was aware of all of these albums, but I've never listened to any of them all the way through. In fact, I don't know most of all of them.

So, help me decide which of these albums from the early '90s should be listened to first!

The poll will end on August 30. Thanks for your participation!

Angel Dust is the ultimate alternative rock/metal album for me. Heavy and innovative, with great Mike Patton vocals and the album has unique atmosphere to it. Other albums are also cool, but the competition isn't even close when Angel Dust is here.

Dirt is by far one of my favorite albums of all time! It’s a dark album but personally it’s a masterpiece the whole way through!

Early 90s music has a much deeper bench than the typical "grunge" list... May I recommend albums that will never win polls, but are worth a listen: King's X - self-titled 1992 Dada - Puzzle - 1992 Porcupine Tree - Up The Downstair - 1993 311 - Music - 1993 echolyn - Suffocating the Bloom - 1992 Steve Morse - Southern Steel - 1991 Bjork - Debut - 1993 Wild Colonials - Fruit of Life - 1994

I'm always one to champion Nine Inch Nails. Like King Crimson for me, I may not always enjoy what they do sonically, but I always find them interesting, and The Downward Spiral and The Fragile show off so many cool things, compositionally and in terms of sound design.

Phil West Music

Dirt, Angel Dust and DownWard Spiral are the most interesting by far on this list.

Claudio Fernandes

Where's Superunknown from Soundgarden?? One of the biggest of the 90s!! I voted for RATM

Jean-Michel LaFontaine

Angel Dust by Faith No More certainly won't win this poll but it's my choice and probably the most diverse and interesting of this list. I wouldn't mind any other on this list except for the Black Album, which is just overplayed and not that great IMHO.

Wow how is Nirvana not killing this? It’s the quintessential album of that decade! I love this album.

BRIAN MILLER

I'm not (and wasn't in the '90s) a fan of this kind of music and am not familiar with any of these full albums, and only a few songs by these artists. There is one Faith No More song that I enjoy, "We Care a Lot" but I think that was from a different album of theirs.

Edward Malthouse

Would love to hear your analysis of some Mr. Bungle, which is Mike Patton's band.

Yentl Brandt

Holy crap, Downward Spiral. That'd be an interesting video, lots of cool musical techniques employed.

Thom P

Wow, Dirt and The Black Album are really duking it out!

Ryan Mellino

Come on people, let's get Dirt up ahead of the fourth or fifth best Metallica album at best!

Spencer Lane-Ferrara

I hope dirt wins, however it is cool to see angel dust on their!

Frank H

Soundgarden dearly missed here. Should be FNM Angel Dust for its diversity of styles. Most exciting album of the ones listed here after 30 years, it's still fresh and hot.

Steve Hartke

Alice In Chains - Dirt… IMO, their best album… a decent into drug abuse, made sadder by the death of Layne Staley… fantastic vocal performance by Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell, great riffs and songs, some surprisingly radio friendly…

BRIAN MILLER

Just curious how you resolve ties in poll results ?
