I believe the "Three of a perfect pair" refers to the fact that one (or both) person is schizophrenic. "one, one too many, schizophrenic tendencies keeps it complicated". And "The Battle of Evermore" - gotta love Sandy Denny's voice. Always gives me chills.

Allen

Ian's "Salamander" sounds like the intro. to "Cold Wind to Vahalla."

Yeah! I remember thinking that when I heard it the first time. It's like he's re-using material from Cold Wind. Beautiful stuff.

Allen

Yes, it was a mandolin. . .

MikeCarr

What a great collection of songs, many of which I had never heard before! Thanks to everyone... Cheers!

David Edinborough

Too Old to Rock and Roll and too Young to Die was a grower for me, but it has some rockier moments and really beautiful stuff too (From a Deadbeat to an Old Greaser, and the closer The Chequered Flag) definitely worth checking out.

Hi! I'm new and of course I'm behind in the nominations and voting. However, I would like to suggest looking at/listening to some of the late Michael Hedges for one or two of your reaction videos.. He was an unconventional guitarist, but I think you would appreciate his composing skills and his musical talent. I was lucky enough to see him in concert in an intimate venue, and my jaw was dropped for the entire show! He makes all others look like amateurs. Listen to the first one before deciding if you want to react to the second two. I think you will: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ulWPVb8t44 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaIN13aDbCc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vKvLYmmMPc Greg in TN PS: You may remember reacting to Frank Zappa's Inca Roads. Mike Keneally has narrowed all the instruments to an acoustic guitar solo. It's unreal! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVcN3BjYJ1Q

Regarding Sandy Denny....you wouldn't go wrong starting with Fairport Convention's "Liege and Lief" album. Some of her absolute best work, as well as Fairport's in general.

Bill Coonley

Most enjoyable! More Acoustic Fan Favorites would be fantastic down the road.

Having trouble viewing the video. Getting a message saying there's a problem 😕

Great list Dr. H.Wasn’t The Rain Song beautiful? The collaboration with the London orchestra was perfect. Only bummer was that Jonsey wasn’t with them.

Hello Greg. The best way to recommend songs is on Doug's discord. There is a community post on the main page that goes into how to connect Patreon and discord.

I know this is how the musical process works (constantly reusing old materials); it sounded like something one might find on a deluxe-edition CD (an early demo or something like that). Regardless, it was nice to hear.

another enjoyable FF......dk

The album is on the master list and has appeared in a couple of EPL polls but ended up towards the bottom. Doug's comments here give us hope that he will pick it as a Doug's Choice before too long.

Sorry - I took your comment to mean you weren't aware of that.

Very enjoyable FF. Never heard Salamander before, and really enjoyed it - brought to mind Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day on the Warchild album for some reason (always loved that one). It would be really interesting to go down the Folk road, and Sandy Denny with Fairport Convention is a great place to start (for English Folk Rock).

Terence colin Shortman

wonderful list loved it a couple of suggestions you may like to check out not necessarily react too though or it would be fun Laguna sunrise an acoustic number from Black Sabbath it might Suprise you, anything from the led Zeppelin MTV particularly City Don't Cry with Moroccan musicians filmed live in Morocco, The battle for evermore with Najma Akhtar and the finale Kashmier with the strings plus Egyptian Orchestra and Moroccan percussion they are all fantastic.

Blinky

My favorite one about the Adrian Belew tune was the audience clapping along, not losing time, in 7. Only at a King Crimson show, folks.

There is a story behind Rick Wakeman Piano Portraits album. Back in 2016, Rick was doing a radio interview on the BBC 2 days after David Bowies death and as a tribute to Bowie he played Life on Mars, live on the radio. It caught the publics attention, Rick put it out as a single in support of McMillan Cancer Support and when that did well, had the idea of recording a whole album of piano arrangements. In the UK it became his best selling album since the 70’s! Here’s link to the original radio performance of Life on Mars https://youtu.be/jogv7tD18gs?si=k6Gc2We-8JJsr4l4

Ann and Nancy Wilson did a fantastic version of The Battle of Evermore for the soundtrack to the movie ‘Singles’. Worth checking out if you haven’t heard it and like the original…

Tom (the soggy one)

Lennon/McCartney, interpolated (and enhanced) by Wakeman, filtered through Prokofiev. And it worked! Only Wakeman (and possibly Emerson) could have carried that off.

George Davis-Stewart

A very enjoyable selection of music whose variety also served to complement one another. Thank you to everyone for this assortment, and to Doug for his consideration of each piece. I was delighted to set aside a couple of prejudices and just enjoy the music.

Dave Cohen

On Rick Wakeman, I understand that, on this tour, he is unveiling a 30-minute piece covering, in medley form, a number of Yes songs. It is titled Yessonata. Looking forward to hearing it later this month.

Re-upping this, Doug. Is there a fix for this. It just says sorry having trouble playing right now.

Randy Hammill

The acoustic Three of a Perfect Pair was performed by Belew as part of the encore on this tour. You recently heard Deception of the Thrush which was the other half of this part of the encore, performed by Fripp, Gunn, and Mastelotto as ProjeKct Three.

Tim van der Leeuw

Jethro Tull's "Too Old to Rock and Roll, Too Young to Die" is actually one of my favourite Tull albums. Not all songs are equally great but overall, the album is really worth listening to IMHO!
