Oh no... So it's the whole package of close minded religious mindset: shame, purity culture, sexism, if different is bad, and queerophobia. The poor people that couldn't adjust to their "right" how much they must have suffer 😢💔 I feel that scream and negation in my soul and ... Relatable. As a child I never thought that being LGTB+ was bad, I just didn't understand or have knowledge, but then all the adults said horrible things if these people and actions we do that were wrong and I was so scare, I thought it was a sin and I was going to hell for just existing, I never hurt or say nothing to anyone all my "opinions" aka what adults teach me were just inside, but I remember that guttural scream of "NO I'M NOT LIKE THEM! I'M A GOOD GIRL I NEVER HAVE IMPURE THOUGHS ABOUT MEN OR WOMEN OR ANYONE! I'M NOT SINFUL! I'M NOT DIRTY! I'M GOOD PLEASE GOD I'M GOOD I MUST BE GOOD!". I'm Aroace with aesthetic attraction to men and women or just anyone that I think they are pretty, usually non existent beings, it doesn't exist it doesn't touch me cuz yuck, but I'm sex positive just not for me 😉✨ I realized growing up how full of shit those adults were, how much religion hurt me, no, how much religious people hurt me, how confused I was because my dad thought me about love and care for everybody and yet the people of the church give me so much trauma. I miss my faith, I miss believing as hard as I did, because it also use to bring me so much joy, but know... I just want to believe in the love that God it's suppose to have to the kids.

Poor Kaede...the darker side of bi panic when you grow up in a cultural environment that tells you what you feel is evil, unnatural, and will get you permanently tortured after you die and exiled before you die....poor Kaede. I wish I had a Kaede plushy I could hug right now... I will hug my phone instead. I'm not normally one for hugging but that terror is just...oof. All the feels.

Kaedae’s trauma and sexual repression is no excuse for her to continuously snap on people like that, that behavior has gotten her in massive trouble that she had to get pulled out of because things possibly could have gotten dangerous for not only her but the other smaller folks in the vicinity. Had that of been Nara or any other Narakiyian with a temper, it would of been the brothel all over again.

As sad as I am for Kaede and the way she was raised back home.. this makes me excited to see what the Narakiyans can teach her and her journey with Kor and others :) despite the hurdles there is so much growth and vulnerability ahead!

Not to defend Kaede, but let's remember what she told Kor: she must never "hesitate" at any moment because if she even wants to be a consider to marriage candidate, she must remain firm, as her presence is barely tolerated due to her being mixed race, malformed wings, and her grandmother and mother's past. Her "snapping" is a trauma response, fight or flight. It's similar to how Kor got all worked up and even growled/bared his teeth at her when he discussed marriage/duty to his people (in the background, you could see a horn that was severed, probably from his mother on the day of the trial/exile/declaration of war). Kaede doesn't do it unlike many out of malice, not because she thinks she's superior, not even out of pure aggression, she's in a state of alert even when everything seems peaceful, when you grow up in such an unforgiving environment that criticizes everything you do and are, when you get out of it certain situations feel like an attack and you respond sharply because again it feels like an attack/test, unlear what you have been teached all your life and adapt to something so extreme different takes a lot of time. Kaede knows that's wrong and she's being rude, that's why she immediately feels guilty and apologizes, plus it's hard to feel 100% safe in her complicated situation. Not to mention that the Narakiyian also have their bias against Kaede's people too and they don't know almost anything either from them, they didn't even know that water magic was attached to their religion and that only men know magic. Many talk about Kaede disrespecting the culture of the kingdom that basically started a war that has smaller races under its large claws, the day she arrived they didn't even let her explain the situation because they distrust her race and she almost became the sex toy of a bratty prince... I think it's more complicated and learning about the other is not just on one side, but yep, at least for her survival among "trigger happy" beings my girl needs to learn to scream in her head at certain times and breathe.

I understand but she corrected Kor by and snapped back but she cried when Nara did it to her. I know she didn’t do it in malice but she is still causing harm regardless. I’m not saying Kaedae is malicious at all but I am saying should be careful doing that in “enemy” territory because it can give them all the more reason to try to hurt her or cast her out and having to be rescued. Look at how Micah treated her when she confronted him about his lies. Kaedae is not in a safe situation she’s with safe people. The envoys are a clear problem with Micah as the head. I think he had something to do with the war or was in it somehow. The war started because their previous queen was found dead with a blade in her chest being held by a dead gardlian, the woman who stopped them from waring with each other and treating each other poorly, she brought peace to their land. They were enraged and rightfully so the peacemaker of their land was now dead with what looked like the culprit next to her, it looked like the smaller races set her up. Narakyians aren’t big on lying and being sneaky they believe what their eyes and ears tell them, they don’t usually go any deeper than that unless warranted so they went with what they saw, their peacemaker, their peace had been destroyed and they wanted what thought was revenge and it is now coming back to bite them. Micah is very sneaky and a liar though( even said that’s how the smaller races survive) and he runs those envoys and trafficks his own people, Kaedae being trafficked was not the doing of the Narakyians but Micah and his envoys they put her in that position and last time I checked Narakyians are very big on consent, the bratty prince would have probably thrown tantrums and thrown Kaedae away or put her to work elsewhere, before he did anything you are insinuating, he hates the smaller races yes but he’s loves his people and I don’t think he would do something so heinous that could get him, isolated, cast out, exiled or even put to death. I feel liked I’m getting long winded.

I'm understand I mean the situation is more complicated that we could possibly understand. You are right she needs learn to calm down for her own survival, Kaede baby someone not very nice is going to hear you! You are very vulnerable, protect yourself, scream internally in some situations 😭 but again easy to say than done, if I was in her situation I would be in total dissociation, paralyzed for pure fear, quiet, submissive, overly polite and praying to God to no one touching me or doing anything against my consent, I would prefer 💯 to do anything in that place as I stay or a quick painless death if they expect me to do the sex against my will, also even if they ask me respecting my consent because I'm Aroace the thought of me using my body like that it makes me want to vomit. We know Narakyian are very into consent but does her people know? The races are very ignorant about each other cultures. Cuz I don't think everyone is going to respect someone they seem as below them I mean we have seen the hypocrisy of about the whole purity thing and how they think of Kaede's grandmother/mom as dirty cuz the whole concubine/Vashi thing, and even Kor half brother literally was manhandling Kaede, graping brusquely her hair and claiming her as his Vashi like someone chosing a toy or pet and nobody said nothing about her opinion or making someone a Vashi against their consent like "let's send her back she isn't useful" nop just let the guy have her also many in that party were like "kill her, give her to the beasts as food, etc", Kor basically save her by calling his birth right as the heir. His half brother even attacked Kor in a reunion not just because he was a "sore loser" about not having Kaede for himself also becase Kor called him out his "bad habits" and as Sanna, Kor thinks with more rationality soooo the bratty prince would respected Kaede's body autonomy? Would have he been punished if he did? 🤔 Sure he reproach Kor because "you make a fuss about them while your people suffer" without looking for Kaede's pov how fuck up her situation is, cuz again why he would care for the lifes of a few peasants, his words 🤷🏻‍♀️ For the other races pov these are lustful war loving beasts that have been destroying and terrorizing their lands for a death of their beloved queen than btw even Micah said that they are accusing them of that crime without any prove, a lie and then killed many innocent people, but he is using innocent people too, Kaede's situation is 💯 his fault. Heck even Queen Sanna was like "My mother was a strong warrior is imposible, there's more into her death, calling war against small and weak creatures is wrong! She didn't fight for peace so we could just do this, let's think!" But nop, everybody though she was being weak for being rational even make her choose between death or exile because of her thinking things better and not wanting war, and the actual king as she said is a weak noble knows nothing about war and loves the benefits for being in charge but no the actual responsibility, and now everyone ESPECIALLY the common people are suffering because the lack of water and the majority of the nobles prefer their petty power fights than worrying about the rest of their people and the few that actually do care are powerless before the easily manipulation of creatures that are good twisting words. I'm just saying the story/lore is so good that the whole thing is pretty gray.

I love the way you've handled jealousy in this, having Kaede be jealous OF Kor rather than the women he is with is really interesting and something I haven't ever seen especially in a m/f relationship I love that she wants what he has rather than just wanting him

It is lowkey a combo of both tbh, she's jealous of him and the women who get to be with him. They all get to have something she can't have. It's a weird situation to be in.
